I’ve been thinking of this for months! There isn’t a quality dog facility (dog camp and boarding) in my area and the few places that are here are bot the best. They just stick a bunch of dogs in a room and call it “dog daycare”. I don’t even board my dogs there because I don’t want to have to worry when I’m out of town. I keep telling myself I could open a similar business and do it waaay better. I just don’t know where to start. You guys touched on some really good points.
Hi Vick, a great starting place is checking our our videos here on RUclips. We have been in the pet care industry for nearly 30 years and are happy to help answer questions you have. You can also join our Facebook Group at The Dog Gurus where you can meet other pet care industry professionals and those just starting out. You can join the Facebook group at: facebook.com/groups/TDGGrowYourPetCareBusiness Also, we do have a program that helps people who want to start their own pet care business. That is called Launch Formula and you can check that out at this link: thedoggurus.com/launch-formula/. Hope that helps!
Do you suggest a meet and greet for the pet and owner before taking a pet in?
You ladies are fantastic!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
Thank you, very informative and helpful. We started off at Pet sitting, and we now have a NO cage/no kennel Daycare and boarding facility, we always strive to improve and learn every day for the safety and love of our Facility fur babies.

We apologize for the frustration with advertisements. Unfortunately, that is out of our control. I believe if you own a subscription to RUclips those ads can be minimized or go away. Thank you for watching and we are glad the information is useful. Take Care!
This is great :) I plan to open a brick and mortar in the next 4-5 years, what’s your overhead look like? Do you have hard standing rooms or a big room with dividers?
When it comes to overhead costs and the layout of your facility, there are several factors to consider.
I recommend exploring our Launch Formula program, which provides comprehensive guidance on all aspects of starting and running a successful pet care business. Launch Formula will help you assess your overhead costs, determine the most suitable facility layout for your needs (whether hard standing rooms or a big room with dividers), and make informed decisions based on your budget and operational requirements.
By utilizing Launch Formula, you'll gain valuable insights and expert advice to create a solid business plan that aligns with your goals and sets you up for success as you prepare to open your brick-and-mortar facility. thedoggurus.com/launch-formula/

Thanks for coming
As mobile grooming business, this was great information and a refresher of some information that was stored in my brain! 😂
Glad you found it helpful
What is a good price to charge per dog for a night in a kennel. And how can we upcharge? We will offer pick up and drop off, treats, toys and walks.
Thanks.
I don’t own a business yet but this is how I would look at it:
Pick up/drop off prices need to factor in:
Gas per mile
Vehicle Maintenance variable per mile
Employee payment per hr
Insurance costs per day
Once you have these numbers you’d have a good base line. Then i would add 25% (10% unaccounted for maint and cleaning, 15% profit for upgrade or replacement vehicles)
Not the end all but this is probably a good start.
Any advice on the best locations to start. I will be purchasing property but would like some insight on the best area if that is next to schools and apartment complexes. my problem is maybe dealing with zoning.
I would start with the zoning. There are only certain areas you will be allowed to open based on your use. So I would start there. Ideally, find a location that does not require special use permits or hearings because they can be very costly.
