    We initially used contracts from Pet Sitters Internation. We then found even with customization it wasn't enough and we totally reformatting and then sent to a lawyer we know personally to do a quick review. All of ours are now online and they accept on our software which is consideredegally binding in 2021 and beyond. We also have a secondary emergency pet care Veterinary Release as well with DNR type info .

    I hired a lawyer to also do my contract. And thank God I did because it covers me and it also covers the client as well. I've had one too many instances. I did not have this in the beginning when I started my business almost 4 years ago. But this is what this job is all about learning as you go and putting it in a contract of how you want to run your business

      Hi Doug I'm just starting out pet sitting in my home/farm. I would like to get some tips for how to handle my situation legally. I'm in SE Pennsylvania and I have the perfect situation to make this successful but don't know how to cover myself and client pups. Would love to chat further,
      TYIA,

    Yeah, a lot of people didn't want a contract or paper trail when I did landscaping. The landscaping work itself was fun and I got to be outside. Its the people that make it hard. People try to get everything for nothing and look for any excuse to deny you payment.

      now that I am working for myself I am finding the same thing as far as people wanting 'a little more' here and there for the service they paid for. It might not seem like much for a pet parent to say 'oh can you feed and water the cat while you're there' when they hired me for a dog walking service, but every little bit of work done is still time and effort that should be compensated for, not snuck in as 'a favor' or 'one little thing'.

    I need to update my contracts for the new year, so this video is helpful! I'm glad you mentioned not using aversive training methods - I won't use them either, but will help clients transition to more appropriate equipment. Definitely want to include that in my client agreement. Thanks!

      Same here! I've been needing to update my contracts for a while! One thing I can't wait to add is not using retractable leashes! I would love to put all retractable leashes that are used for routine dog walking in a pile and just set them ablaze. 🔥

    Literally the best dog walking business man channel. Doesn’t leave anything out. I wish I could speak as good as you. Do you truly believe paying 400$ for time to pet is worth it? Besides the gps tacking and payments how is it worth it? If you have time to answer me, I appreciate it.

      Thank you so much!! I 100% feel that Time to Pet is worth every penny. I used other softwares in the past and I wouldn’t even consider anything besides Time to Pet at this point. Their features and their customer service are on a whole different level than any other pet sitting software available currently. (Just my opinion)

    I have a quick question, i went to a clients house, 2 German shepherds, went to the house and the dogs in cages went crazy and tried to stack me. What would you do?? I hated to cancel a booking but i was truly scared. Of course they said it never happened before implying it was my fault. I went back to try again, same thing. I met them beforehand, one was very nice and sweet, the other was not so sure but i felt it would be ok. She was totally different when i came alone .

    How long of a contract is too long? The one I currently have is over 10 pages, but it includes the client info, pet info, vet release, key authorization, waiver and release, and the policies. Is it too much? I think I may have too many policies.

    Hi this is perfect im barely starting my own dog walking biz and have a lot of questions. Im scared yet excited. I started with getting insurance as Dba, but i want an Llc and want to also get bonded. But how much bonding coverage do i need to start? I live in California, also if i wanted to include pet transportation, do i need a separate insurance? Cause the one i got they told me it doesn't cover

    • @DougtheDogGuy
      @DougtheDogGuy  3 года назад +4

      Congrats on your new business! I would recommend getting as much bond coverage as your provider offers (or as much as your can afford). And I'd recommend looking into Pet Sitter's Associates for the pet transport insurance if your main provider doesn't offer it. They have a-la-cart options for specialty services

      ChatGPT helps a lot! It didn’t exist back when I made this video lol. I would urge you to get your contract reviewed by an attorney before implanting it, though. I don’t trust that a ChatGPT document stand up in court should it ever come to that.
