    This rifle is wonderful you just don’t want to get your thumb caught between the bolt Ann the breach!

    I have the book on the complete design and manufacture of the Springfield 1903, including dimensions of everything to do with manufacture. It should be possible to start production of these rifles, just with this book!

    • @duane8620
      @duane8620 8 лет назад +5

      Yeah, as long as you have the exact dimensions and measurements, anything is possible. Now for a realistic production (several in a week) all you need is a CNC Machine, a Lathe (both wood cutting and metal) and materials. Those are more attainable now then ever, as long as you have the funds that is.
      We used to be a very proud nation and society. Assisting neighbors, retaining marksmen skills, self sustaining, homesteads where abundant and productive. Now our pride is diminished, our resolve dwindling and our dependence on government is appalling..... Sorry, just some of my disgust seeping out there.

    The photo is a five groove barrel. Enfield rifles from Remington and Eddystone had five groove left hand twist. Springfields had four grove right hand twist except for a few with only two grove barrels.

    Interesting to note they ended this documentary with emphasis on civilian youth marksmanship program, something that is either ignore, forgotten or done away with in recent decades. Which is a shame, because I think agendas have clouded the need for this nation to be wlll armed and well trained against any future conflicts. Yes the military trains you to fire a rifle when you go through basic, but to be honest it takes more than a week for a person to handling a rifle properly, comfortable, and most importantly, safely, an experience more youths need growing up.

    • @MrTitaniumDioxide
      @MrTitaniumDioxide 8 лет назад +2

      Hogwash...just because someone believes in expanded gun control it does *not* automatically follow that they want the population disarmed...the NRA originally supported marksmanship/gun safety courses for all youngsters *and* they supported strict gun control -- *responsible gun ownership* -- the arms manufacturers have hijacked the NRA today, and so they now oppose *any* logical, reasonable *sane* controls on gun ownership. How many more mass killings will occur before enough Americans realize it's simply too easy to obtain a weapon of mass murder, or the cheap handguns which create the daily shooting galleries in our cities?
      A June 2016 opinion poll taken after the Orlando massacre showed: 92% of Americans say they wanted expanded background checks, 87% support a ban for felons or people with mental health problems and 85% saying they would ban people on federal watchlists from buying guns. "The latest CNN/ORC poll also found that a stark partisan divide on the issue remains -- with 78% of Democrats supporting tougher laws, 29% of Republicans supporting tougher laws and independents almost evenly split (53% support tougher laws.)" So you're correct in a way: many Republicans are seriously out of touch with reality (see: Daffy Duck.)
      Bugs Bunny [to Elmer Fudd] :
      _Would you like to shoot me now or wait till you get home?_
      Daffy Duck:
      _Shoot him now! Shoot him now!_
      Bugs Bunny:
      _You keep outta this! He doesn't have to shoot you now!_
      Daffy Duck:
      _He does so have to shoot me now!_
      Daffy Duck [to Elmer]:
      _I demand that you shoot me now!_

    The M-1 and M-14 were our best infantry weapons. The M-16 (and the M-4 carbine that has now followed) are supported solely based on smaller ammo and less cost.
    The AK-47 is not the magic weapon it is played to be but the SKS (Chinese and Russian) has begun to attract a lot of attention based on design. The open-bolt access gives the user a lot more freedom in a combat situation. In 2007, the melding of a SK's bolt & chassis to an AK's bore created an auto very much much approved.

    at 7:20 Im suprised he didn't pre-suppose that this new rifle after the m1 would be fully automatic like the M14 and then the AR-15 or M16 would become!

  • @nccrawford
    @nccrawford 8 лет назад +8

    @21:20 is exactly why we have the problems we have today. If programs like still existed (I think they should be required) we wouldn't have even the square root of the problems we do today with gangs or mass shootings. If people learned from a young age how to use a firearm we could eliminate negligent discharge deaths to virtually zero, and respect for firearms means not misusing them. I first shot my dad's M16 when I was much smaller than these kids, and remember firing my first handgun when I was 5 years old- an old Colt Single Action Army that I now own. I was responsible enough that in second grade my parents gave me an old DEA CAR15 that looked like new. I cherished that gun and the HK P7K3 .380 I got the next year more than anyone could imagine. I still have all 3 weapons, and I wouldn't trade them for all the tea in China...

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj 8 лет назад +5

      Exactly. Kids today know everyone else is helpless so once they have a gun they are god. When everyone knows how to fight and is armed, mass shooters think twice realizing how short lived their pathetic crime is going to be. There is a reason victims of gun crime are unarmed and mass shootings only happen in gun free zones.

    • @voltarsystems
      @voltarsystems 8 лет назад +5

      Totally agree. Surprisingly even the medical docs who want to stand against gun rights have admitted gun training and education is the reason for the accidents and misuse of firearms. They need to go back to these programs instead of gun bans which have never worked in the past. Because they educate and create public safety.

      I totally agree,my wife is from Bulgaria and they used to have a short mandatory inscription into the military.That up until recently was just stopped under the pressure of the EU.It really kept problems at bay and taught people well and as a whole they almost have none of the violent crime that we do.Even with the Mafia their murder rate is practically nothing compared to us.It's funny but even my mother in law knows how to strip and maintain a Kalisnikov lol.
      Another thing is when my father was a kid he took his guns too school,either for the shooting club practice or during hunting season,as they would hunt before school.They just would leave them in the office on the way in the building like it was nothing.Now a days if a kid even draws a picture of a gun its forbidden and they get thrown out of school.
      Now I dont know about you but the more I was told not to do something etc as a teen the greater the chance was I'd go and do it.Now that guns are bad and evil we no longer teach the responsible use and kids end up getting a hold of them anyway and that is when and how these tragedies happen.If we treated them as we had in the past they wouldnt be taboo to teens and have the draw that they do.While on this subject I want to use my wife's family as a example again.In Bulgaria they also have very few teen alcohol problems like we do here and again its because of how they look at it.Everyone makes their own wine and hard liquor there and they learn to drink responsibly at a young age.Unlike here where we have teens dying from binge drinking.My sister in law is 8 years younger then my wife but she was free to have a glass of wine with dinner or a beer with us within reason and while she rarely did.It was the norm,in all the time I lived there not once did they refuse to sell her beer at the local shop if I asked her to get it for me.Now they did change it to 18 under the EU but even so it wasnt a problem if the shop knew her and when I asked her how it was at school.She said that kids preferred to smoke weed and only a few times had she ever seen a classmate sloppy drunk.

      Jim Man, then you might be horrified to find out that just a couple decades ago," hormonal", "impulsive" teenagers and middle schooners once went to school with rifle slung in cases to participate in after school marksmanship clubs. Funny how no mass shooting happened then.
      And yes, mass shootings only happen in gun free zones because those in zones that allowed firearms were stopped from ever being a mass shooting to begin with. The gun counters the gun.

    • @voltarsystems

      SouthJerseySound totally agree. I grew up on the marine base housing in San Diego ca. We used to go shooting in the morning before the marine training. Walk to school with our guns, after shooting. Go to school and check our guns and cases in. Went to class and after school if the marines weren't using the range. We would shoot in the afternoon. In the summer. We didn't use cases if we walked straight to the range and back. They did have a safety instruction at the beginning of the year for us and anyone who moved in checked with the Sargent of arms and received safety training. We never had a problem. We were all responsible. They even let us hunt pheasants with adult supervision on the ranges when the ranges were clear and shut down. We just had to check in and log in. Surprisingly we didn't have fights either. If there was one. They threw gloves and helmets on us and put us in the ring. Or put helmets on us and give us those cue tipped bows. If we were bad and disrespectful, they would make us pick up trash, change trash cans at the school, clean bathrooms and clean up the public gym.

      .270 Pederson. Either McArthur or George Marshall or whomever the Chielf of Staff of the Army was, wanted the rifle chambered in 30-06 since there was a gajilion rounds left over from WWI and still used in the 1903 rifle. That reduced the capacity in the M1 Garand to 8 rounds.

Speaking of odd how about the way the marksman detached the one end of his sling and looped it around his upper arm. Never seen it done like that; only seems practical for a very long distance prone shot where a bipod can't be improvised from the terrain.

    Gun grammar Nazis gonna be like, John Garand referred to the M1 as an “automatic” rifle, when we all know that it’s “semi-auto”. He clearly knew very little about guns.

    The M1 Garand should have had a removable 10 round magazine, like the British Enfield. That 8 shot clip was ridiculous. The Garand also could have been supplied with a deeper ammunition well to accommodate the 2 extra cartridges. Then Garand could still use his clip system, which was noisy and gave away the position of the shooter. The Beretta upgrades regarding the magazines should have been used by the U.S. long before the BM-59.

      Joshua Nolte that was by city and state ordinance not Military. They were already taking guns before the levees broke, taking for law abiding citzens not criminals, thats why many died after from shootings and murder than the actual flood they somehow survived.

    • @joshnolte
      @joshnolte 8 лет назад

      Oh. I thought it was from all of them..I know police did but I watched some documentaries where military guys said they had orders to disarm people for safety reasons etc..but I might be wrong. Have a look and see if the videos are still up to what I am referring to.

    • @UlyPez
      @UlyPez 8 лет назад

      +Joshua Nolte I think it was mainly reserve coast guard or army, guys who wouldn't in best experience know what to do. Probably was military too but I know from that day cops were going door to door getting guns. They even showed a picture of a warehouse full of legally owned guns. Not one was illegally owned, talk about taking freedoms away.

      I don't think there is anything that could have saved the Hell Spawn from being who she really is. The CMP is still alive today and active. If you join you can get an M1 from them at a DEEPLY discounted rate ($200-$600 vs. $1,500-S2,500+). There is rumor of over 200k M1's still stored in Korea and more in random armories across the country that are persevered and locked away.
      But I can't see our government run by anti-gunners releasing them, not even if the country was under attack (domestic war/invasion/defending). Not even if the Dead rose today and started eating only Hillary supporters.... They would just blame it on Trump.

    • @duane8620
      @duane8620 8 лет назад +1

      You are absolutely correct on that comparison... He was more American then our own President today (tho many still believe he is not even an American) even more compared to our current populace. We are not even a fraction of what we once where. We were creators, designers, scientists, chemists, craftsmen, farmers and performed real work that contributed to American society while advancing the knowledge and wealth _[of the people of the nation]_ as we should be today (real wealth like land, gold, silver, knowledge, crafting skills and family. Paper money is only a nations debt and it works because we believe it's real wealth. *Which it isn't.*).
      Sorry for the little rant, I tend to get carried away when I get something in my head. Don't hate me for my opinion. :)

      That's what made America great. The people who came in were screened and rated for their ability. From Einstein to all others who all contributed to her greatness, not people who come to destroy ater sucking the blood out.

    These rifles had a huge flaw: empty cartridge was making a loud gong-like sound when it was ejected out of rifle, and enemy knew this moment that soldier has an empty rifle. This flaw took many lives...

    • @Kneong
      @Kneong 8 лет назад +2

      They would also hit two pieces of metal together to make the enemy think that they were out of ammunition, then when they would go to fire the soldier would shoot the unsuspecting enemy.

      not really. after was interviews showed that the ejecting noise was not an issue. besides, us troops heard about this issue and would bang an empty clip on his helmet to simulate the ejection. would you want to charge a soldier reloading an m1? if you guess wrong, you lose.

    • @unforsaken2k1
      @unforsaken2k1 8 лет назад +7

      To think that in the midst of live fire incoming and outgoing, without ear protection, you would be able to hear a single soldier's ping and somehow charge only that one soldier is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It did not take "many lives" it has however made a perpetual old wives tale about something that when you logically think about it, makes zero sense.

    • @vasiliygulakov
      @vasiliygulakov 8 лет назад

      guys, what i wrote was from us troopers memories. If you don't agree - you have this right, k? Take it easier. And, yes, you can hear that sound after a shot. You don't think that nazi were that dumb to rush to allies positions under heavy rifle fire after they heard empty clip sound, do you? :) Or do you really think that all the battles was in open field? o_O Read more, guys, i heard it's cool :)
