- Some tips if you want come here from Osaka.
From OCAT, buses for Tanabe run every day. The seats are reserved, so I prefered during my first day in Osaka went there and booked a seat for three days later. You can go to Tanabe by train, but is more expensive.
If you're looking for a traditional accomodation in Tanabe, three minuts by walk from the station, go here: www.booking.co....
Hiroko, the owner of Ogawaya, is very kind and speak good english.
Every day a lot of local buses run from Tanabe station to Takijiri- oji, the start point of the trail. Remember, you can pay the ride directly on the bus, but only with coins and 1000 yen bills. ICOCA doesn't work.
For book your accomodation during the trail, use this website: www.kumano-tra.... You can't use booking.com or airbnb.
Make sure to book your accomodation three or four weeks before departure.
And last but not least, get ready to walk in one of the beautiful forests of your whole life :)

Interesting video, thanks. Do we have internet signal covered along the route?
Thanks!
For what I remember, I never had connection problems along the way (I was using Sakura mobile).
Free-camping is prohibited along the UNESCO World Heritage Kumano Kodo Nakahechi route, as well as in adjacent towns, public or private property. No exceptions.
Open campfires from the ground are strictly prohibited.
Yes, free-camping and open campfires are prohibited. But talking with locals, bivouac (set your tent when is gettin dark and leave before sunrise) is totally fine.
Which month or season you going ?
Was the first days of November!
Which campground did you pitch your tent? I was told by Kumano Travel that people can not stealth camp.
The first night I camped near a little shrine, because the sun was setting down and I was alone. The second night, at Hongu, I asked to a local man where I can set my tent, and he told me the river.
