Mario is such a good fit for ensemble jazz, it amazes me that it took until 3D World for Nintendo to fully embrace that as the staple sound. Big props to the band as usual, y'all are stellar.
It works so well because Mario Bros. acts just like Looney Tunes at times, and Looney Tunes always used/s big band or classical music for its cartoons.
The animation is completely unhinged, great work. Not gonna lie, I got emotional pretty much since the start, love this song. Need this on Spotify, guys... The rush hour may have me stopped in traffic but I know I won't stay still with this gem blasting on the radio.

There is a high-frequency noise in the left channel for most of the recording; it isn't audible during the piano solo, so it isn't coming from that, the bass, or the drum tracks. I think it's in the brass, but it might also be the saxophones. It's hard to tell with so many overlapping parts.
There really is no “Overworld Theme” to SMB 3, this is the theme to 1-1 and similar outdoor levels, but I’ve never heard that referred to as the “overworld”
