This is the video I have been looking for. I’m an introvert by default and it’s hard to communicate at times. I love working with wood and building a business is what I have been doing. I’m in the extremely early stages as I have no customers or anything but I’ve been making stuff and taking photos. I’ve seen tons of videos on how to grow a business and they’re all the same. Helpful but lack some details that people really want to know. This has helped more than all of them and I can’t thank you enough. I’m still hesitant on a RUclips channel but it’s been a huge thought and I might pick it up. Thank you!!! Keep the content coming and you’ve earned a subscription from me as well.
Not exactly sure how many times I’ve listened to this video over the past two years, but still coming back as I grow my part time woodworking business. Launched my facebook business site in late November 21’. Thank you again
For anyone looking to start a business then this is 75 minutes of excellent content, having retired from running my own business some 7 years ago I found it interesting to see how starting has changed, much of that change being brought about by the power of social media.
First, thank you for your service. Second, thanks for the video. This is very helpful and inspirational. I'm looking forward to checking out more of your videos.
Jason, thanks for sharing your ideas. You’ve been very fortunate in how quickly your presence on RUclips and Instagram have taken off so quickly. Many of the points you made in this video will help people like me who haven’t been quite so fortunate to increase our subscriptions, following and viewership. What you presented is far more valuable than some of those who constantly create videos on how to succeed on RUclips because you’re talking about woodworking. I appreciate your openness and willingness to share with others.

Thank you so much for this video. Of all the hours I've spent on RUclips, this has given me some of the best advice and insight into social media that I've learned. As an old fart I may have to watch a few more times to take it all in, but it wasn't a time suck with nothing gained. As a jeweller who uses wood in my pieces I'm just learning how to film on a macro level for Instagram content, so we'll so how it goes, but I am seeing a lot more short video over photo postings as you said. So glad I came across your channel, looking forward to watching more thanks Bent.

Jason, dude this is so incredibly helpful and insightful. I think I've watched this video in particular maybe 4 or 5 times for reference over the last year or so. There's a lot of really valuable information that I'm going to be applying to my business. Thank you for sharing this!
Half way through watching this on my lunch break. Invaluable content! Thanks for sharing Jason. The areas you discuss are black holes of data for most of us so great to have some clarity of the reality of how SMedia can help and assist and the work involved.
This is one of the best videos I've watched on YT lately. Educational, inspiring, and even entertaining. You talked specifically about things I'm currently trying to learn and understand. I really appreciate you sharing this session with us!
Brotha two things.... thank you for your service and thank you for posting this. I have been planning on getting into this for years and im FINALLY making the push this year. This was a giant help and hopefully i can put this knowledge to some degree of success.
I'm just now getting started and collecting tools to start woodworking. My goal is to do this for retirement, and if I can make some money on the side then great - though it's not my primary motivation. This is invaluable information, and thank you for posting this. You have a new subscriber. And look at that, it's between 8 and noon in my time zone.
Awesome video. I really appreciate you taking the time to put this together. This is definitely something I've been giving more thought over the recent weeks and it's good to have these tid bits to reference.
Such great info! I had to keep pausing the video as I was taking notes and actually doing a number of things you talked about before I forgot to to them. Reaching out to real estate agents was a GREAT idea and I paused the video for about an hour while I went out and did JUST that. Thank you!
Awesome video! Would be very cool to see a video of you building that farm house table! Great to see how far you've come in such a short period of time.
This is awesome. I'm currently trying to grow my channel, and I'm still in that "shooting crappy video with your cell phone" stage. I can only dream of growing like you have!

Your passion for teaching and being comfortable in front of people and cameras shows. I truly enjoyed this video. You really opened my eyes in respect to using social media and and the revenue that is possible - long term. I can understand why you changed your business goals.
I definitely appreciate this video. You've answered a lot of questions that I have been wondering about. And a lot of what you talked about made so much sense. It really helped me a lot, made things much clearer and understandable. Keep up the great work.

Well, you've definitely inspired me to get back into content creation. As a relatively new woodworker, I wanted to publish content where I showed how a person new to the craft would work through their issues learning. About the only things I post right now are build still shots to Instagram. I really liked the point about always filming everything you do. Would you recommend just getting started with that immediately? My lighting is good for work, but not really sure about on camera. Nor do I have a mic beyond what's on my phone/camcorder. Thanks for everything you've been posting. I'm so glad I ran into your channel a while back!
When RUclipsrs talk about starting a business, the discussion seams to be always about the "how to make money" starting a RUclips business. Could you expound a little about the Federal Tax benefits of using your home for shop space, much like a home office. Other things like calculating and deducting operating costs like electricity, equipment and tool purchases; remodel improvements, additions or even constructing dedicated freestanding shop space as business expenses?
Thoroughly enjoyed this talk, Jason. I learned a ton. One question though: Given you're focused now on content creation, you are now competing for views with all the other content creators out there. What is your strategy for making your content compelling?
I am always trying to get better when it comes to just that. The first place to start is trying to make the thumbnail intriguing as that is the first thing people will see. After that, it really comes down to optimizing the search ability. As far as the content itself, I just try to make it informative and enjoyable and trust the audience will enjoy it.
@@bentswoodworking Fascinating. Yes this was a guild meeting and the guild is typically an older group. I was actually concerned about, that but they really responded very well. A lot more questions and conversation then I was expecting
At one point you said you would ask what a customers budget was. "When they said $1000", you said you weren't the person for them. Is that because you make to a lower budget, or you want more?
In the instance I was talking about which was a table, I meant that I wanted more. At this point, a table for $1000 isn’t something I want to take. I would give the job to someone local that I know is looking for work.
