The thing is that Uncle Roger is a characterization of a pragmatic, no-nonsense Asian uncle. Things that are expressed from his perspective are quite hilarious on many levels. Telling Tony Hawk that he's "too old for skateboarding". Telling the 2set violin guys "just sounds like violin to me". Hilarious. Nigel wasn't making fun of the tragedy of the horrible destruction of Ukraine as much as he was coming at it from the practical attitude of Uncle Roger.

If you just go on stage and say I was abused as a child, that's sad, not funny. But if you go up there and go "I swear to God, my mother had homing slippers! It didn't matter where I was, what I was doing, whether the room had windows or not. If she was pissed at me those slippers would find my ass with deadly accuracy!" that's both funny and relatable lol. It's dragging the truth out into the light, and finding the ridiculous among the bad bits of life and laughing at it that pushes the boundaries! My dad was in Vietnam and to this day, him and his other vet friends still make jokes about it. And some are really "out there" but r the funniest. People laugh and make jokes to help them get through bad things cuz laughter is the only way people can stay sane, esp. in times of war. My dad would have lost it by now if it wasn't for him and his friends making jokes about the horrible crap they had to deal with back then. So always laugh and make jokes cuz that will keep u sane. Look at society and the people who always get offended and never laugh and those people all have mental issues and have lost their minds.

We all feel terreable for the situation and do not understand the purpose of that war. Many of us have relatives and friends in Ukraine or if not we still terrified for people out there. We do not know how to stop it, how to help ukranians or how to make our government to hear us. With every day the situation is worse and worse(

Hello Nigel! I am your big fan and I am russian living in Moscow. I understand the joke, but for us regular russians war is a sensetive topic. We all feel terreable for the situation and do not understand the purpose of that war. Many of us have relatives and friends in Ukraine or if not we still terrified for people out there. We do not know how to stop it, how to help ukranians or how to make our government to hear us. With every day the situation is worse and worse(

We didnt get to war but we dealt with that here in the U.S. Trump was rallying up all the white people with old 1920s mentality, and it was them versus all of us who werent white. We voted him out. I pray for you all and your dilemma and a peaceful resolution is made.

@@cius2112 You may be right, because the sanctions against Russia are mainly against regular people, not bloody Putin. For example we are bunned by Netflix, Disney, BMV. Drugs are not imported in Russia and can not be produced in Russia because we purchase components overseas. Me and my friends from mental hospital literally have no idea how our recovery will go. There are a lot to say about it, but in the end of the day two countries ruined while Putin still safely chill in his luxery mansion. Fucking legend.

Never apologize to someone, who just wants you to follow their narrative, when they are emotionally out-of-control and they wrongfully associate what you say, with something that pertain to their emotional past. I don't agree that butterfly only appear at the begining. My first impression on uncle Roger video is a bit creepy and exaggerated. But after a long time, I finally discovered the podcasts and more other comedy perfomance. The impression of Nigel suddenly turn into a thoughtful comedian with nice abs, and butterflies appear.^_^
No matter how clearly something is a joke people will get offended because a lot of them are just looking for a reason to be mad.
I come from the era of "All in the Family", "Sanford and Son" and "Monty Python". Comedy is hardcore sometimes.

-I think outrage being concentrated on one platform(twitter) and all other platforms are in support is just another sign that its not legit hate and mostly just the twitter cancel cult.
-I also find it interesting that certain regions have concentrated hate toward your comments. My assumption is that there was local news coverage / articles that introduced you to people who has no context of your content and made a judgement based on a article.

While things can get ugly on the internet, i think its understandable why people would react so stronly to a joke to ukraine. After all, over a hundred have died, more injured and thousands lost their homes. That's no material for joke... In any way, imo. However, i'm sure that if you made a joke on putin, the world will be laughing along with you 🙃 anyway, keep up the good work please, god knows we need good comedians like yourself to help all of us get through such shitty times!
