What a great idea! I am on my fifth year of a 5-year journal, and I had never considered setting up my own before. I liked your suggestion of a 3-year journal, too. One thing that actually makes it work for me was to fill it in once a week as part of my weekly review (weekly reset). It takes between 5 and 10 minutes. Because I bullet journal, my dailies make it easy to trigger my memory. Then, I only add something during the week when I want to quote my kids or remember something specifically. It takes a lot of pressure off. I also allow myself to leave uneventful days blank to highlight the memories I want to see. The last five years have brought a lot of changes, and my whole family enjoys the "four years ago this week we..." Thanks for your thoughtful guidance on how to make bullet journals work well for your viewers.
I created one of these last year. My issue with many of the preprinted ones was the sameness of each page. I knew I wouldn't stick to it. So I created my 4-year "chat journal" in a blackout journal. Each page is designed differently. Many funky layouts. I used different shapes, and colors. I painted some pages. Some pages have textured cut-out shapes for dimension. I am using metallic & neon pens to fill for different days. I am going to add a "then-now" page. Thanks for the idea!
Last year, after watching this video, I made a 5 year writing journal and it's SO GOOD to use! It's very simple with only black and blue pen. I don't write everyday, so there are lots of blank page, but hey, this is just the first year hehe
I've surprised myself with how I've been able to keep up with it honestly 😝 Can't say I've gotten into it every single day, but I've done a pretty good job of making sure to back-fill where I can 😄 Glad you've been enjoying yours! 🥳

How did you handle the leap year? Since 2024 is the only year in this journal that will have the extra day, did you just gray out the day for the other years?
Poorly. She handled it poorly 😂 I was on auto pilot and put all the years in. Ideally I would have just had one larger space for the one occurrence of 2024, but I’ll probably just reflect and be like “good job past Jess, you muppet” 😂
This is so beautiful. Unfortunately I have a bad track record with long-term journals. I might as well say that I intend to fill it in every day right after I ran my marathon 😅 But if I decide to set one up, I will definitely use your template ideas 😄

When I first watched this video, I didn't see a point in doing a journal like this but now I think I like it but I really want to just note moments like "thorns, Buds and blooms". However, I don't want to take effort in finding a thorn in everyday if there is none, because if I don't list something in all the spaces, I will feel incomplete. So like you, I think I will just have space and then just add the icon when filling it in.

Jess! This is awesome! Intimidating, but awesome. I'm a sucker for color coding and I really like the idea of future me remembering past me and all my struggles and accomplishments. a friend of mine did a 5 year inspired journal for me like.. 5 years ago (already??😳) and i loved writing every day with a different colored pen. so i could also easily differentiate between the years and what i wrote the year before or the year before that. i rly loved and still love it. but now it's nearly full and i'm thinking about copying the prompts myself in a journal.

Poorly 😝 I was on auto-pilot when I was filling it in so accidentally put a space for each of the 5 years rather than just one larger space for 2024 (which would have been my preference). I'll probably just fill in something for the fake Feb 29th days with "past Jess is a muppet" lol
I also love the IDEA of a 5-Year Journal, but never finished one. We should do a creator challenge -- all set one up and see who keeps theirs the longest. 🤣🤣
Hmmm I have 172 pages, but having like extra 50 pages for... something feels weird I guess I could opt-in for like a month cover page to be like printable or art I really like at the time...
I've been using a Leuchtturm 5 year journal for the last year and have actually been consistent with it. Mostly because it doesn't have any journaling prompts, just space to write a few lines each day. But I don't like the paper and only use a pencil because I hate the ghosting that my favorite pens use. This is making me want to make my own 5 year journal, but it seems wasteful to get rid of the journal I already have and already use. Maybe I'll juat keep this idea in my back pocket until it's time for a new 5 year journal.
Yeah I knew that one thing my five year journal had to have was thicker paper because it would bother me to have something that ghosted or potentially bled 😅 cool that you’ve stayed consistent for a full yeah! 🥳💪
I came up with the layout first. So I would know the size I wanted. Then the materials. So I know the type of paper I wanted to use. And then the cost I was willing to spend. Then went looking for what type I wanted. I'm still trying to find one. I have one that was gifted to me years ago. I have no idea where to find one just like. Because the person moved. And there is no information on where anywhere on it of the internet. It has linda white and black pages, blank white, and blank black pages. Haven't found it anywhere. Hoping someone other there knows. Enjoying your views. Happy holidays.
Seeing the wear and tear on the archer and olive books makes me glad I don't buy them. I have been using Amazon $10-15 bullet journals daily and there hasn't been a single thing wrong with them and I've completely filled three of them.

Surprisingly, yup! 😂 I say surprisingly, because every other time I've tried a 5 year journal, it's been abandoned promptly 😝 This one is still going strong 💪 One thing I wish I'd done was fix the first two pages of those "year at a glance" style summaries. One line of boxes on each of those was shorter than the rest, and I could have used the extra line 😅

The blank paper scares me a bit, but I think I will use your template card to draw the lines in to split the page into 5. Fingers crossed this goes well. 🤞

Every 4 years we have a "leap year" where February has 29 days instead of 28 😄 As this journal spans 5 years, and 2024 is a leap year, I wanted a space for that day too. I also wanted the journaling prompts to have one for the leap year day too 💪

Mine is more going to be a mixed bag, but mostly reflections of daily wins, challenges, ways I’ve identified to improve, milestones, etc.

Poorly 😝 I was on auto-pilot when I was filling it in so accidentally put a space for each of the 5 years rather than just one larger space for 2024 (which would have been my preference). I'll probably just fill in something for the fake Feb 29th days with "past Jess is a muppet" lol
I also love the IDEA of a 5-Year Journal, but never finished one. We should do a creator challenge -- all set one up and see who keeps theirs the longest. 🤣🤣

I've been using a Leuchtturm 5 year journal for the last year and have actually been consistent with it. Mostly because it doesn't have any journaling prompts, just space to write a few lines each day. But I don't like the paper and only use a pencil because I hate the ghosting that my favorite pens use. This is making me want to make my own 5 year journal, but it seems wasteful to get rid of the journal I already have and already use. Maybe I'll juat keep this idea in my back pocket until it's time for a new 5 year journal.
Yeah I knew that one thing my five year journal had to have was thicker paper because it would bother me to have something that ghosted or potentially bled 😅 cool that you’ve stayed consistent for a full yeah! 🥳💪
I came up with the layout first. So I would know the size I wanted. Then the materials. So I know the type of paper I wanted to use. And then the cost I was willing to spend. Then went looking for what type I wanted. I'm still trying to find one. I have one that was gifted to me years ago. I have no idea where to find one just like. Because the person moved. And there is no information on where anywhere on it of the internet. It has linda white and black pages, blank white, and blank black pages. Haven't found it anywhere. Hoping someone other there knows. Enjoying your views. Happy holidays.

Seeing the wear and tear on the archer and olive books makes me glad I don't buy them. I have been using Amazon $10-15 bullet journals daily and there hasn't been a single thing wrong with them and I've completely filled three of them.

Surprisingly, yup! 😂 I say surprisingly, because every other time I've tried a 5 year journal, it's been abandoned promptly 😝 This one is still going strong 💪 One thing I wish I'd done was fix the first two pages of those "year at a glance" style summaries. One line of boxes on each of those was shorter than the rest, and I could have used the extra line 😅
@@JashiiCorrin Awesome, glad to hear it is still going strong. I am about to set up a 5-year in a thicc ol' 400 page A5 blank Moleskine, so I will have a page a day plus a few extra pages. The blank paper scares me a bit, but I think I will use your template card to draw the lines in to split the page into 5. Fingers crossed this goes well. 🤞

Every 4 years we have a "leap year" where February has 29 days instead of 28 😄 As this journal spans 5 years, and 2024 is a leap year, I wanted a space for that day too. I also wanted the journaling prompts to have one for the leap year day too 💪
