@@sportsnstuff5557 no it's not. That's how it's written on Wikipedia so people think that's his full name.
@@christopherchuauhang4829 oh fair enough
Wait when did he die?
I love the vocals in this song because it honestly sounds like Corey is unleashing a demon unto the world like you can tell he's letting loose of whatever is haunting him and I think that's an incredibly healthy way to go about instead of unleashing it physically on other people
Completely agree, and although listening to it cannot replace therapy, it helps people feel like they're not suffering alone, that they're understood, even if only by distant outcasts. I think that's why someone once said, "attending a metal festival is like coming home."
word bro feel that. If u need to seriously decompress this album is the most magnificent rock of searing hate ever assembled XD if u can grasp the beauty & inevitability of destruction for evolution it's a revelation, real piece of art
Here's a challenge: listen the five first songs of this album in order, no breaks between. All the way from (sic) to Spit It Out. It's one of the best "side 1" in the history of albums and they all feed off each other.
its literally the only songs i listen to on this album, aside from eyore

Yes I second this let’s blow this comment up!
I remember this album coming out; it sounded like nothing else at the time. My friends and I were all hooked pretty much instantly.
Best slipknot album ever. Period.
Nope... Iowa. This is the 2nd best.
@@spet59 Nope, he was right first time. Self titled trumps Iowa. I still listen to this album in full semi regular, 20 years later! Iowa not so much.
@@ronnywalker2959 It's close. But I like Iowa a little bit more.
I kinda like Iowa the best but this and Iowa are the best 2 for sure. IMO anyway.
@@joshuas193 Indeed!
This is why I love metal in general. The lyrical meanings can get DEEP. And the instrumental genius of some bands put with the lyrics is nothing short of amazing
This is why you should have listened to this album first. It's their best.
Nah, it’s a close second but “Iowa” is their best.
Iowa is better but self titled kick ass
@@Eccentricjuices nah man their 1999 album is way better, at least to me.
@@ohyeah5014 You did not just say that. WANYK is without a doubt their worst album. I’d rather listen to fuckin nickelback than have to listen to WANYK again. The only good song on the album was Unsainted. Every song on Iowa is great. Please never compare those two albums ever again
@@ASMRcaedmon lmao I don't really like wanyk but let the dude have his opinion lol. He didn't even compare the two records, he just said he prefers it to iowa. There was no comparison and he didn't say it was the "better" album. Calm your tits
This album is more "raw" sounding heavy and Iowa is just heavy as balls.
I wouldn't say IOWA is polished. They started getting polished with Vol.3 and their last 2 albums have been SUPER polished. I'm not the type to hate on polished music... in fact, I prefer it usually. For the type of band that Slipknot is, I just don't feel the polished sound works as well for them.
@@TheJokesterSCR agreed. Their original rawness was something different. From Vol 3 onward they sounded like plenty of other bands out there.
Dude, Iowa polished? WHAT? Those drums and bass are FAT and muscular and they sound exactly like in real life. My Plague intro sounds like a thunderstorm. I don´t know if you have cheap headphones, but in my expensive ones, those bursts of those instrumentals, are sooooooo brutal and crushing.
You can even hear how Paul is bending his strings on his bass. HOW is that polished? :D Ross Robinson was mixing the sound from wheel chair and screaming in pain, lol.
@@jackcravford8744 You're right polished was the wrong word I changed it.
@@Justin-nq6kf I think both records are raw to the core. Even self titled has some vocal melodies behind screams and such, in both records there was lot of manipulation with stuff.
But i have a cool info, i talked with Ross Robinson through instagram and as far as i know, both records were made on tape without any samples (not counting sample work from their DJs). Which is awesome.
Check out "Purity" from this album. It's such an underrated track.
I think that's probably because it got removed due to copyright and replaced on the album. Me inside is a great song, but I think purity, especially with the transition from frail limb nursery, fits the album so much better.
And it wasn't even removed for the riffs or melody or anything, literally just for the backstory.
Hell yeah Purity is the way to go.
AGREED
@@TheRealJamesWells if Alex reacts to this he needs to listen to the version where tattered and torn leads to frail limb nursery and then nursery leads to purity
@@TheRealJamesWells Yeah it was also a song where the only way you could hear it after it got pulled was you had to hear it live. But then in one of the anniversary editions of the Slipknot album, that's when I think they added it back in. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
"I've never heard any vocals like this from Slipknot in my entire life. This is fkin awesome dude!" - Yeah now you know why a lot of original fans have been sort of displeased with the more recent releases.
Corey was killing his voice for those first two albums. New stuff is amazing too
Absolutely correct my man
I'm glad that they never do the same thing with any of their albums. That's why I'm always excited for a new release from them because I know it will be something new
100%.
Exactly. I just heard some 'tortilla' Corey love and he made might be coming around to that what which maggots crave.
"I have never ever ever heard anything like this from slipknot in my life." All the people wishing slipknot got back to their roots felt that sentence.
Nah let musicians evolve. Their new stuff is great
You can only go on with Joey over saturating unnecessary drum fills onto every song for so long.
@@Jahomey505 but that’s the thing, their percussion heavy sound is partially what gave them their original sound. I agree it’s good to let musicians evolve, some of their new stuff is amazing, but it doesn’t mean that we a lot of us wouldn’t love to hear some of that classic sound coming back.
@@Jahomey505 sorry man. new stuff is utter garbage and has been for the last 15 years
@@mootkickee or maybe you just have trash taste in music 🤷🏻♂️
Iowa is hands down the heaviest album in their catalog. The only band who said "our new album is the most brutal thing we've ever made" and actually meant it.
Give "prosthetics" a listen to...banger and very underrated!
My personal favourite.
My favorite! You could make a bad ass horror movie out of that song.

Prosthetics definitely my favourite on the album. Seeing them do it live in 2009 blew my mind
The incredible drummer Joey Jordinson has passed away. RIP This is probably he most eclectic insanely incredible feats of style and talent. Even Slayers drummer was like “damn son”
depends what you mean by Heavy. SlipKnot (Album) is chaotic, wild, cacophonic at times, un-melodic at times and just straight up Psycho. IOWA is an unrelenting, Steamrolling Beast of an Album that plows and flattens any,- and everything in its path. Both are very heavy in their own, yet slightly different way. at least thats my opinion about those two. Love em both
Well put
I agree.. I remember when Iowa came out I was like it's heavier, how did they go heavier?!!
YES. This is it exactly. This is them slamming you with a hammer over and over, Iowa is them sticking you under a car crusher. Both brutal as fuck but one's more focussed hahaha
Couldn't have said it better.
IOWA is definitely the heavier album. The members would agree aswell. It's also thier best album, they really honed in thier sound and made the album they really wanted to make.
Eh, idk man. They're about the same. Sic, Eyeless, Surfacing, Scissors...I mean, really, that 1st album is FUCKING RIDICULOUS!
In terms of pure rawness, I think the first album takes it; however despite IOWA being more polished and refined, it has a technical heaviness that I'd say rivals the best in metal, ever.
First album is more raw and straight hatred while Iowa is more focused on being heavy.
I remember my first time listening to this album. It was an experience.
20 plus years on, and we are still talking about this album, how many other artists enjoy that accolade, these songs and lyrics still stand up today, a lot of us still have mental issues, Corey was telling us about this 20 years ago, and they are still doing it today, I love this band, they have helped me through so much.

Kinda the way every song on IOWA was a banger... basically every song on their Sellf Titled album kicks ass so definitely check out some more from there. In terms of weird and disturbing try Scissors or Prosthetics but then No Life has some cool rap bits too
Self titled and Iowa are both brutal in their own way. Iowa was just darker and angrier.
I actually skip songs on 'Iowa', I don't skip any of self-titled.
@@FlyboyHelosim Self-titled is more on the rap-metal side while still being insanely heavy. Iowa takes it a step further and showcases a ton on anguish and relentless rage, being one of the heaviest metal albums I’ve ever heard.
Iowa is much heavier and darker, but the first one has the "shock" factor for sure. I remember when this first came out not know what I was hearing but loving every minute of it!
This song and the whole album gave slipknot the stage and start of a beautiful career in music from 1999 to now. You can definitely hear the different sound throughout the years. I think Iowa is the heaviest album they've created to date 🖤🤘
my slipknot favorite, their download 2009 live version is one of the best song live performances ive seen, the energy is unreal

God damn this takes me back
I was in high school when this came out. Saw them live 3 times before Iowa came out at small 1500 person venues with bands like SOAD, incubus, chevelle, coal chamber.
This gives me chills! We took either acid or shrooms depending on the show too. This album hits different live than ANY other live show I've seen. There's a weird sound to their early show's that only those who've experienced would know what I'm talking about.
Nothing like being 5 feet away from the clown going up & down on his platform when you're high af lmao
ive heard this song when im kid. maybe 8-9 years old and now im 30 years old.. 😁😁
I remember when this album came out. And I rock to it still. Just turned 42 last Saturday
Prior to know anything at all about them, I was hooked by the "layered" percussion (or so I thought) after hearing "Wait and Bleed" in the early a.m. hours on an independent radio show while living in New York. With one word, "Slipknot", written on a sticky note, I spent a few hours tracking down the CD at some local music retailers striking gold at a progressive Borders music department. After my second shift job let out and a full album playthrough three times over (just to absorb all the nuances) a Maggot was hatched. ( If we're keeping score, I have about a year and a half on Clown, 53 y.o.)
Corey’s voice and emotion on the album is the greatest ever! You should deff do the album man

Sid went nuts with this song. Corey Taylor was pissed off through the whole record while his lyrics are brilliant and so meaningful as well as the drums went hard. That's the recipe for a masterpiece of a record for Slipknot.

This album to broke the mold of what heavy metal was back when I started listening to metal. Never heard anything like this and this paved the way for as to what music I chose to listen to. Slipknot hands down are artists.
