  • I'm in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park filming wildlife photography vlogs. This time it's about the ancient Camel Thorn Tree's that provide food, shelter and shade to the wildlife of the Kgalagadi / Kalahari Desert.
    I photograph wildlife in the Auob and Nossob rivers and traverse the red dunes of the central Kgalagadi.
    As always, my trusty Land Rover Defender, Basil takes me along the course of the Nossob river as I search for great wildlife encounters in the dusty heart of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park 2020.

    G'day Will. Thanks for a very entertaining and informative video. I have just discovered your channel and I really enjoyed your production. I have subscribed I will looked forward to more and in the meantime will start to catch up on your back catalogue.
    I will probably never get to your corner of the world and am not very familiar the local wildlife but I feel that will change ,just by watching through your viewfinder. best wishes from Australia

      Hi John, thanks so much for watching and the kind comments. Really great to be able to share some of Africa with you! Thanks for subscribing and I hope you'll let me know what you like or don't like. I've been watching my fair share of Aussie videos on photography over there and overlanding in the outback. Really exciting country by the looks of things.

    Yet another great documentary.
    Your knowledge and your way of telling mixed with your footage makes your videos stand out from the rest other channels here.
    Every time I watch this kind of episodes I wish they would last much longer.
    I hope there will be more episodes like this in the future.
    10 out of 10 points! And superinspiring!

    Will, nice to see you out in the Kgalagadi again and sharing your experiences and adventures with us. I hope there was no after affects with the cereal you had for breakfast. Interesting to see you are using the 7DII did you take any of the photos with the R5 or did you leave that at home. I just came back from a trip away myself and am happy with the phots I have. Once again thankyou for taking us with you and until the next time. See you out there!

      @WillGoodlet  4 года назад

      Hi Euge, I'm glad you had a good trip and welcome back! This is actually old footage from October 2019, I still probably have one or two more video worth of footage from that trip to put together. So the R5 would have been great out there.
      I won't be travelling anywhere distant for the next 4-6 months sadly. Maybe not even then. It's all going to have to be content close to my house.
      See you out there! (eventually :) )

    Excellent and entertaining video as always! I often use a miops Smart trigger as a remote shutter when I'm waiting for birds to come in and out of a nest. What makes it better than many remote triggers is that it has an app that goes with it with a huge shutter button the size of a silver dollar probably. You can stand back and watch the nest and not even have to look at your phone and just hit that button with a thumb when you see the bird arriving or leaving and do a burst of several shots. It works great and I usually get a couple of wingspread keepers. If you're not already really happy with your method of patiently waiting and grabbing some shots it might be something to look at. I will usually stand off to the side with that app running and my thumb above the shutter button and sip my coffee until that moment hits. best of luck to you and be safe! Thank you for the great usable information and very enjoyable videos.

      Thanks for watching and thanks also for the GREAT tips! Like you I have used a remote release in the past, but not a wireless remote. That sounds like an excellent way to nail the shots. I have used also used a motion & sound sensor in the past, which is brilliant too. Cheers!

    Hi Will. I love the way you wax lyrical over descriptions on what intitially appears to be trivia but culminates in a wealth of information. I sometimes wonder, listening to you, if perhaps you have a surpressed poet within your breast?
    I have a question for you. On a few of your video's you have driven past trees with what I assume are multiple communal nests but unlike the usual weaver birds single nests these look very much like a thatched roof that you would find over a cottage. Could you please identify the birds. The fact that they are inter-linked is quite facinating. Cheers R.

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  3 года назад

      Hi Roger, thanks for the watching. Don’t worry I won’t burst into verse but I’ve always enjoyed writing - perhaps that’s it.
      The nests belong to sociable weavers and are a big feature of the west.
      They are a favourite hang out for cape cobra, Pygmy falcon and other raptors.
      Eventually they get so big the tree or branches fall.

      @@WillGoodlet Thanks for that Will (Not for refraining from bursting out into verse but for the Bird ID). Just looked them up in my copy of SASOL Illustrated Guide to Birds of Southern Africa. Apparently they can have a communal nest of up to 500 chambers.

      @@WillGoodlet oh well, I'd be happy for you to even talk through a Google map. 😊
      Here are a few topics to consider for that set of videos:
      1. Understanding the park : South Africa vs Botswana side. Differences in geography, rules, and what to expect. Movement across borders.
      2. Accommodation and transportation options: Where to stay, camping vs mid range vs luxury options. 4wd or not. Other practicalities. Considerations for couples or solo travelers.
      3. Your favourite camps: and suggested drives from each of these, with the prominent waterholes and landscape spots.
      4. Suggested itineraries: 4 days, 7 days, 10 days, 2 weeks. How would someone spend their time?

    Pure awesomeness, Will! I loved everything about this video, nicely done. Interesting seeing the scale of the lion next to the giraffe, and I love the owl. It's good to know about the conservation efforts there too. Snakes are so fascinating, I got to watch one here this past week, non-venomous but they still scare me a bit. I got a couple of photos but I was way too close to it with my telephoto lens, I'll see if it can make it into a video soon. I'm very happy for you to see your videos are being discovered now and your subs are finally skyrocketing! Much deserved :D I hope you get to enjoy your spring and summer outdoors very soon.

    • @WillGoodlet
      @WillGoodlet  4 года назад

      Thanks Liesl! That lion was a big boy, can't be easy being on your own out there. I saw two males further down the river and had to wonder if this guy would eventually run into them and what would happen.. I loved the owl, best moment in the bush ever!!
      I'm hoping to go with a snake wrangler friend of mine on a release once covid settles down. I am terrified of them and hopefully, by learning a bit more I wont run so fast when I see them :) I'll look out for your video when it comes out - hope all's well with you and the family?
      Yep, it's amazing how one video can see the sub count jump like that, astonishing.
