There seem to be a lot of visual problems with this movie. First, all of the girls look alike. I think all except one are blonde and blue eyed. All of the girls in the 1971 version had distinctly different and individual appearances. Second, they are dressed elegantly in expensive, pressed dresses with elaborate hairdos. They look more like what they are, pampered actresses on a 21st Century movie set, than they look like Civil War era people in the South who were in dire poverty during the Civil War. Gone With the Wind showed how things in the South probably really were, with Scarlett starving at one point swearing to God she would never be hungry again, and later, with no money for clothes, having to make a dress out of the drapery. And the 1971 version of this movie showed the girls and women in the threadbare work clothes, not particularly elegant, that struggling Southerners would have been wearing. And last, the movie set itself has too much lighting, the place is flooded with exquisite lighting, like the best lighting in homes today. But this is supposed to be during the Civil War. The 1971 version featured dark rooms a lot of the time, accurate, because the only lighting they would have had was candles. Also, the dark lighting adds to the dark, gothic theme of this movie which is supposed to be exploring some very dark and not easily visible subconscious emotions.
