Can't say how many times once rewatched your videos over the years. It's so nice to have a channel that answers every question I've basically had over a game I've sunken 3k+ hours into. My 4 year old son even sits and watches with me, and for the first time today, asked to play a little! I fired up the computer and created a great memory. Without your channel but I don't think he ever would've asked. I know you may not be making content as much as you used to, but I wanted to come by and say thank you, for all the effort over the years and for the pure bit of joy I got to have today. Much love.
Harkon: "So, you've returned. Is your... pet keeping you entertained?" Serana: "You know why we're here." Harkon: "Of course I do. You disappoint me, Serana. You've taken everything I provided for you and thrown it all away for this... pathetic being (Or "half-breed vampire" if a vampire)." Serana: "Provided for me? Are you insane? You've destroyed our family. You've killed other vampires. All over some prophecy that we barely understand. No more. I'm done with you. You will not touch him." Harkon: "So, I see this dragon has fangs. Your voice drips with the venom of your mother's influence. How alike you've become." Serana: "No... Because unlike her, I'm not afraid of you. Not anymore." Harkon: "And you..." [During the fight] Serana: "Tough day for you!" Serana: "Sorry it had to be this way!" Serana: "This won't end well for you!" Serana: "I won't fall for your tricks!" Serana: "It's time for you to suffer!" Harkon: "No... Serana... your own father..."
If you use the spell “Undead Thrall” on Cisero he has a couple of unique pieces of dialogue. Funniest is when most reanimated followers die with this spell they just groan, Cisero says, “Coming mother”
If you’re running out of stuff for content, i for one would like to see videos where you simply flesh out the lore of quests and dungeons. You got a solid video style that would lend itself well to more than just top 10’s. That, and your theory videos are always fun to watch, I don’t think anyone here would mind more of those to watch or listen to. So dont be afraid to branch out a little, we’ll all watch it no matter what it is. Can’t wait for the next vid
I always used the become ethereal shout to negate fall damage. Another tiny detail/ fun fact is when you go to the tomb of Jurgen windcaller and find the Become Ethereal shout. Next to the word wall will be a waterfall, if you go through the waterfall you will find a chest next to a draugr grave. (:
On Ulfric, if you pick up the Thalmor Dossier on Ulfric, it reveals that Ulfric is a Veteran of the Legion. And his age. Apparently, Ulfric is 51 years old.
Wait, where does it say that? I couldn't find it in the Dossier. It would make sense, but according to my calculations, he could be as young as 43. He studied under the Greybeards for ten years (according to his dialogue), then joined the legion to fight in the Great War in probably 173 when reinforcements from Skyrim bolstered the Imperial City. That's 38 years. If he was called by the Greybeards between the ages of 5 and 13, that gives his current age as anywhere from 43-51.
@@pullt Yes... really 2002, wasn't it? I didn't discover the Elder Scrolls series until the next year, when I spent a refund price at a game store, so I'm not completely certain about the timing of early entries in the series...
I noticed something that you already found but if you go to the face changer in the ragged flaggon as a vampire she has a unique line of dialogue telling you to fix your vampiric problem
@@Landon-vo3vd Yes, who is it by, if you didn't like the way I asked. There's half a dozen songs with that title and it doesn't sound like any of them that I've heard. Or was it just a bad joke?
It's nice seeing bethesda focused creators acknowledging each other the way you just did with mitten squad. I appreciate thr amount of time you put into your videos and hope we see (or i guess hear) you more often.
When it comes to Sovengard and "The Final Battle", The Nord Race is based on Norse mythology. Sovengard is Valhalla and "The Final Battle" is Ragnarok.
Have you thought of maybe also doing this series in Oblivion? It is also a massive game and every play through I find new small things here and there that I did not notice the first time around.
@@Top_Weeb guess I haven't seen that video or missed it. Still if that's the case then even more so he should give it a go. It is a fantastic game with so much to see and do.
It would take him so long to play through Oblivion to obtain the experience and knowledge needed in order to make the type of content that would do it justice. I think he probably doesnt want to half ass anything. He seems to have alot of knowledge on Skyrim. Im sure much of it is due to him reading the reddit boards and seeing other videos possibly, but we can tell he has put in quite alot of game time into Skyrim over the years and he is passionate about the game and its lore. Its easier to make videos about a subject youre passionate about than it is to make yourself passionate about a video you want to put out. Im assuming he wants top notch content coming from his channel and he may feel that he would not do the game, or his fans, any justice by creating them. But this is just mere speculation.
@@Top_Weeb Seems super weird that someone would put so much time, effort, and even money into Skyrim and not really touch the previous games. No dig at Nate, but just always imagined if people like The Elder Scrolls that much - they would've played at least a lot of Oblivion and Morrowind lol
I think my favorite new feature is the black screen feature. It really expands the amount of variety to the game I can experience like standing still staring at a black screen and just listening to audio. Thanks Tom and the devs.
I feel like the “follow Shor into the final battle” is a Viking reference. Valhalla is where fallen warriors go when they die so they can be Odin’s army at Ragnarok. I don’t know how that fits into Skyrim lore, but it lines up with a lot of the other Viking references you find in Skyrim.
It does line up, at the end of the kelper cycle as the world rests the start of the new begins. They blend together. At the start of every cycle (as far as we know), the elven gods and the old elner fey war with the betrayer and his wandering elner fey. This is Akatosh/Aur-riel versus Shor/Lorkhan. The elves always win and kill Shor. So the Nords of this cycle will likely replace the wandering elner fey at the start of the next cycle and fight the thalmor. Maybe even the aldmeri dominion. There is even evidence Nords came from a previous cycle. We know the Red Guards did. The Nords may have been the creatures that destroyed the dregs with the help of Mehrunes Dagon, which happened in the dawn era. So the end of the last cycle.
Einherjar are what the members of Odin's army are called. I know its not important just thought I'd mention. I was getting the exact same vibes from it, Nords in Sovengard follow Shor into the final battle, Einherjar in Valhalla follow Odin into Ragnorok (obviously there's more to it but the general gist is there)
I don't know why Nate thought this battle was mysterious, plenty of lore sources talk about how Shor is gathering an army of followers to battle with Auriel (Akatosh), Trinimac, and other Elven gods at the end of this kalpa / start of the next one
The Svangarde thing is definitely based on Valhalla. Valhalla is an endless feast and training, until Ragnarok when the warriors follow Odin to fight Fenrir the Wolf and get eaten.
I’m not sure if this has already been covered (or if you’ll ever do another installment of this massive series😂), but I found something in the Dragonborn DLC. I was going through Miraak’s temple with Frea, but I also had Lydia with me. After killing a section of Draugr, I passed by Lydia and she goes “She fights well, for a Skaal.” (Referring to Frea.) I don’t know if any other followers do that, but nice tiny detail!
I always assumed that there was going to be some kind of Ragnarok type event in the world of Elder Scrolls and that Sovengarde was supposed to be their version of Valhalla. It makes sense to me considering how much of Skyrim is based off of Norse mythology and Scandinavia in general. And this "Final battle" bit of removed dialogue kind of reinforces my theory.
As a matter of fact, Khajit lore states that there IS in fact a Ragnarok type event coming on and where the cat equivalent of Kyne gathers all of the souls of the dead at the end of times for some sort of cat-based ragnarok "Khenarthi carries the souls of dead Khajiit to Azurah for judgment, and is also her messenger. At the end of time, it is her clarion call that will summon the eternal united spirit of all Khajiit to defend creation." It's chronologically the first religion, so its the most accurate- if cat based Whats more likely that is that shes doing that not just for the nords, but for the khajit as well. And the Shor/Lorkhan is the guy housing/chilling with the nord souls in the meanwhile
I'd say it's more than "bases off" of Norse mythology. It's just copy pasted with some detailed switched up and some letters rearranged. Like those recolour OC's on deviantart. "No guys it's not Thor, it's my very own original character called Shor. Something else entirely, really."
@@RedmarKerkhof Nah, Shor would be Odin in this case. Kyne would be the closest one to Thor, and even then she'd also have the portfolio of other irl gods. While you're right that the beginning and end of Norse and Nord stuff is pretty much the same, all the stuff in the middle is different- they have different "myths", stories and attitudes
Check out Fudgemuppet's channel for deep dives into all this, a lot of this lore is actually pretty well expanded upon in Skyrim, ESO, and in-game texts going as far back as Morrowind. The end of one Kalpa bleeds into the start of the next, and the final battle between Shor/Lorkhan and Auriel/Akatosh mirrors the battle in the Dawn Era between those two
I think that the final battle is the series equivalent of Ragnarok. Shor sounds almost like Odin in that he rewards honorable deaths by allowing them into Valhalla. Now replace the word Odin with Shor, and Valhalla with Sovngarde. Makes sense, considering that skyrim and Nords in general are based off of viking stuff.
@@DangeHD yeah you should really hate to be that guy. Even I a pagan still use that kind of language especially when talking to someone who might not know much about the mythology. Which is exactly what he is doing Edit: Valhalla is really only there for warriors not soldiers you standard infantry would not be going to Valhalla If they died in battle. So people like Navy seals would be going there so it's usually Vikings being sent so that language makes sense to use. Edit 2: also forgot to mention not every shock trooper gets sent to Valhalla. I do forget if it's the Valkyries or Odin and Freya who decides who's going to Valhalla but I do know Warriors are split evenly among Valhalla and volkvang. And some will just go to hel.
Had quite an electrifying surprise playing Skyrim this past weekend. While doing the dawngaurd quest to find Serena. I got into a scuffle with some draugr and in the bottom of one's sarcophagus was a Dwarven Sword of Thunderbolts! Nearly missed it! I had never seen anything in these sarcophagi before.
I thought this was an old video and wanted to reminisce, felt like Christmas when I saw it had been uploaded an hour ago! Thank you for all of your hard work!!
About the sovngard's "last battle" : when you talk to Kodlac's ghost (companions boss), he says something about "invading Hircine's realm". So maybe the last battle is kinda of a gods VS deadra war
He is talking about that because when you free his spirit he says one day he wants to go free all of the other companions who didn't get to cure themselves of lycanthropy before dying from Hircine, nothing intimately related to the actual lore
Aren't nords based on Viking or the nords of our world If so then isn't sovengard just like valhala where the slain warriors await the final war (ragnarok) which resets the world
@@suryanshsoni8809 Yes. In Oblivion, many Nords reference wanting to go to Sovngarde, but not being able to because they're just a steward or another profession that wouldn't normally allow them to die valiantly in combat. Only Nords who are felled in combat go to Sovngarde; it's why even High King Torygg was sent to Sovngarde as he died in mutual combat despite not being a particularly skilled fighter. I don't think it's ever really explicitly stated as to where their souls go to if not to Sovngarde or what would happen if a Nord who was a valiant warrior were assassinated instead of being defeated in direct combat. Surely they know about the kalpas in the afterlife so that's probably what he was referencing.
Hey Nate, here's three tiny details I learned very recently. First off, if you progress far enough through the civil war questline on the Imperial side, if you heal Ulfric when you're supposed to kill him, he'll die anyway. This could be a bug, or just a failsafe, either way it's pretty funny to watch happen. Second up, also to do with healing, when you first enter Jorrvaskr, you'll always see the fight between Nada and Athir. Well if you heal on of them during the fight, they'll turn hostile, but none of the other companions do either. And, you don't get a bounty for it either. Finally, if you're unlucky when Vilkas tests you when you join the Companions and Farkas is there, the moment Vilkas turns hostile, Farkas will too. When this happened, I had Teldryn Sero with me, who repeatedly attacked Vilkas by Dragonsreach while I was talking to Armen about his sword. That's all I've got. If you ever decide to do another 10 tiny details for Skyrim, I hope you use these.
My fiancee may have found something interesting. I write this before watching the video. We were trying to put a bucket over Sam's head in the tavern and the game just wasn't having it. It kept bouncing off like something was in the way and then it hit us: Sam is just a disguise. Sanguine has horns. The bucket was probably reacting to the horns on the character model, which were hidden from us. Maybe. Either way, it was a fun little giggle moment for us.
Honestly, this channel has done so much to keep this game even remotely relevant. Bethesda should add something to TES6 to commemorate TheEpicNate’s dedication to this game.
"Where heroes wait to follow Shor to the Final Battle" if Sovngarde's links to Valhalla are anything to go off of, what he's referring to is the end of all things, the Tamrielic equivalent to Ragnarok.
Fun fact: In the Thieves Guild quest 'Scoundrel's Folly', if you sneak past all the bandits in Brinewater Grotto, speak with Gulum-Ei and use a pacification spell such as Harmony to pacify the bandits without killing them, they will completely stop being hostile to you. You can even exit and re-enter the cave and they still won't attack you.
ok, the cut line from sovngarde reminds me of a theory that the last dragonborn is a shezarrine (a mortal incarnation of Lorkhan). And a few of the warriors of sovngarde do follow you into battle against Alduin, and you get the ability to call upon these heroes on Nirn as well afterward.
Our hero, our hero, claims a warrior's heart I tell you, I tell you, Epic Nate comes With a voice wielding knowledge of the ancient game's arts Believe, believe, Epic Nate comes It's an end to the secrets of all Skyrim's foes Beware, beware, Epic Nate comes For the darkness has passed, and the mod scene yet grows You'll know, you'll know, that Epic Nate's come
TheEpicNate315 I have one thing I don’t believe you have covered about Skyrim, The Kathwasten Massacre. Now, as far as I know, we don’t know much about it. The only reason I know of it is because of the option in the graybeards council between Ulfric and Tulius. In this your given the option to punish Ulfric and make him pay the empire for his crimes or let him go, Ulfric heavily disputes this though, and denies that it was a massacre. I believe that this is one of the last remaining pieces of lore in Skyrim that hasn’t been explored. Thanks.
I don’t know if I’ve ever heard you cover this tiny detail, but if you go to Meridia’s temple BEFORE you find the beacon (a rare occurrence I know) she’ll give you a unique dialogue guiding you to a random dungeon to get the beacon when you approach her statue.
"I know how it feels" I absolutely believe it considering how much material you've put out, that despite knowing the game very well, I didn't know anything about
Ulfric is literally Vivec: They both came to power after the previous ruler died. Those that oppose him say that this was murder, while those that support him say that it wasn't. They care deeply for their own race and province, but less so for every other race. They claim to be the ruler of their province while the Empire is actually in charge. The Argonians are treated worst of all. They both rule from a city divided into four quarters, with one quarter specifically for outsiders. They both possess a power derived from tonal architecture.
I'm like one of the few people who discovered this game 10 yrs later. I bought an xbox 360 for my kids during Covid and for memories sake, and one of the games was skyrim. Was instantly hooked, then bought it in Steam and haven't stopped playing. Feeling like I missed the boat somehow. lol Keep making these videos.
I discovered that falling sneak-attack bug on accident when spying on a dragon from above while it sat on a dragon shrine. I slipped off the overhanging cliff, then panic-attacked in mid-air at the last second. The kill animation triggered, and the dragon thus broke my fall.
just today, i was playing and i snuck up on a dragon, and it died right in front of me. i absorbed its soul and it became a skeleton, even though it was still perched in wait of me. i think "wow, thats weird" and i get out of sneaking, WHICH THEN TRIGGERS THE DRAGON, CREATING AN UNKILLABLE SKELETAL DRAGON. shouts did nothing to it, it never landed long enough for me to hurt it, and yet it was still capable of hurting me and following a normal loop.
a little "tiny" detail i haven't yet seen (unless i somehow skipped it) is the following: - at the beginning, when you're asked to go to Bleak Falls Barrow, if instead one goes to Whiterun (we know that Farengar gives us the quest to retrieve the dragon stone later used by Delphine to check out the dragon burials and somehow always ended up with the "oh, this stone?" response 'cos we already had it) but, if you go to Whiterun in order to, say, pick up a couple useful spells before entering the dungeon, Delphine can be seen there, talking to Farengar who refers to her as his "associate". Delphine is using her leather gear and (unlike when going with the Dragonborn to check out the tombs) she's even using a hood and participates in the dialogue. If you ask in the Sleeping Giant Inn for her (I stopped there omw to BFB to sell a few things), the innkeeper will respond with something along the lines of "she's out, she's the owner, she doesn't need to explain herself" or something like that. It was quite surprising for me, I guess because it was my 1st time on legendary difficulty and thus I wanted to be better prepared for the bandits and draugr, to find her there and even more so, to see she actually interacts with you, Farengar and of course, tying up the pieces (she later tells you that she got the locations from the tablet, but I had never before seen the two characters and the dragonborn interact like that). So, despite the thousands of hours put into it, I had never seen that! This game is so old by now and like any good Beatles album, it still finds way to surprise you. Thought I'd share it in case I (or you, or anyone) had missed it. Thanks =)
"The final battle" It's all based on Nordic lore, it's Ragnarok, after which the world will start anew. Those who died with honor and fight, die, drink and feast each day in the halls of Valhǫll will follow the Æsir into battle to vanquish Fenrir, Jörmungandr and try to stop everything from ending. For the most part, we will fail, though a new sun will set when all is done. :) (Yes, I know this is a very simplified explanation, I can't be arsed to write it all down, feel free to dive into the lore and history, it's quite amazing)
I got a good detail you haven't mentioned yet. When you find Serana, instead of taking her directly to the volkihar castle, take her back to castle Dawnguard and you can have unique duologue with Isran.
Got another humorous one. I was using whirlwind Sprint to get through whiterun faster, and a guard scolded me for doing so. He said that there's no law against what I'm doing, but if there was he'd be sure to lock me up. It took me by surprise
@@ballinlikestalin878 , @Cory McNamara He covered the "You need to stop with that shouting, it gets people nervous" and option to be compliant or be dick about it, this one might be modded

small thing i just noticed and not sure whether you covered it in one of your videos: just northwest of dawnstar, around halfway to the shipwreck is helas something, there is like a small shack with two beds, a lot of red mountain flowers, some wine bottles and an amulett of mara. Seems like someone had a lovely night there!
Ahh, I've missed your videos. It's like a friend you haven't seen in forever. Cool stuff, man. I hope that you're able to build a staff of folks to help keep content flowing.
I always thought that Alduin being the "World Eater" and the "Bringer of the End Times" meant that he was responsible for bringing about the end of the current kalpa. There's also the theory that the Dragonborn is Shor, which is why we can sit on his throne, which lends itself to the whole following Shor to the final battle thing. But I figure the fight would have been *way* bigger if that were the case.
He _was_ supposed to be the harbinger of the end times, but He was also supposed to wait for the end to occur proper. Instead, like many things in and from Skyrim, He didn't like the other races and felt His kind were the only ones deserving of this world. So He kickstarted the apocalypse early. What I'm trying to say is Alduin's a Stormcloak.
The elder scrolls uses a LOT of symbolism and stories from the real world, and many of the most common stories we have come from the Proto-Indo-European line. The idea of a battle at the end AND begining of the world is almost universal in the real world and a big part of that is the idea of a hero beating a serpent/dragon. HOWEVER, the story a hero defeating a serpent/dragon is common as hell and doesn't always mean a "final battle" (Zeus kills a serpent beast at the start of the known world, but Apollo and Hercules also kill dragons/serpents and it's not nearly as big a deal) it makes sense to me that the dragon born beating a dragon boss is kinda smaller than expected because it's not ACTUALLY the big world change, but a kind of reaction story within a larger story
It's cool to see Nate back again. I found these videos back in March and devoured them. It will be weird when we run out of details. Maybe Oblivion will need to be harvested.
It has been years since I've watched one your videos, but I recently got a PC for the first time, and of course had to buy Skyrim. Now I'm binging all this content again. Thanks a ton for the immense amount of work you've put into this channel dude!

And now I won't see a post from you for a long time. I will miss the days of listening to these during a play through and after like 7 times, finally doing every thing besides repeatable quests. Every hidden treasure I could get, filling my house with it. Only thing I haven't done is grind everything to 100 and make em all legendary. I've also been playing vanilla this whole time
So there is another way not to take fall damage, with the shout "become ethernal." Which most likely has been in a past video. In loom of the anniversary pack release I wanted to recap. Thanks for listening.
Don't know if it's been covered in the series or not, but in Benkongerike on Solestheim, when you first enter the Great Hall, there is a Riekling hut filled with like 20 copies of The Lusby Argentina Maid. Definitely implying the rieklings were...using the material.
I never seen this one in your videos. But if you kill a dragon near a town they will gather around the dead dragon. But the interesting part is Hitting the dragon with a fire bolt spell. The skeleton will be blasted away, far. And the villager will go after it.
Nate, maybe you know this, maybe you don't. Serana will actually perform the black sacrament if you take her to the Arentino home in Windhelm. Who is she performing the black sacrament to kill? Harkon? Does she perform the sacrament in Riften too? Also do we know who Maven Black Briar is trying to kill? Sounds like a Skyrim mystery episode to me.
Serana is programmed to trigger all specific animations You can take her to the shrine of Molag Bal in Haunted House in Markarth, where she will act "being imprisoned in the sacrificial cage" I was quite surprised seeing this the first time
I believe the "final battle" and Sovngard are meant to represent Valhalla and ragnarock from Norse myths as Valhalla is a place where warriors go when they die valiantly and are kept "alive" so they may fight in ragnarock should it come to pass
Sovngarde represents Asgard with the glory hall Valhalla within it. Shor represents Odin and Tsun represents Heimdal who will blow his horn when the invasion starts. The bridge represents the Bifrost rainbow bridge. The question remains is who of what represents Fenrir, Loki & Jormungandr and will we be able to learn or either see more of it in TES6? 🙏🏻
@@Fr0staX This exactly. Although, Jormundgandr is also said to eat the whole of Asgard, thus resulting in its destruction, so Alduin definitely fits the Jormundgandr bill.
The final battle kind of sounds like Ragnarock from Norse mythology, which seems like a fitting reference. In Norse mythology, Ragnarock symbolizes an apocalyptic end of the nine realms where a bunch of crazy stuff happens, mainly the warriors of Valhalla going into a final battle with the forces of evil. With the Nords of Skyrim and the ethereal afterlife of Sovenguard, we already know that the Elder Scrolls has a good amount of it's inspiration pulled from Norse mythology, but there are less noticeable things too, like the fact that there are nine provinces in Tamriel, a reference to the nine realms in Norse mythology. Now an important thing to note about Ragnarock, is that in the myths, despite Ragnarock supposedly being the end of the world, some of the gods, and other mythical creatures DO survive, and go on to start the nine realms anew. And this new version of the nine realms will eventually have its own Ragnarock, starting the process all over again. That sounds really similar to the Kalpa cycle of Nirn, even more so with that line about the Nords of Sovenguard joining Shor to fight a final battle at the end of time, or this worlds Kalpa cycle. In conclusion, I believe that line about fighting a final battle is a reference to Skyrim's own version of Ragnarock that takes place at the end of each Kalpa cycle
Small correction: Firstly; the forces of Asgadr does not do battle with the forces of evil, but the forces of Chaos. In Norse mythology there is no clear seperation between a good and a bad side, rather the gods symbolize order and civilization, while the giants represent chaos and the wilderness of nature. The eternal struggle between the gods and the giants is more akin to the feud between two families, rather than a grand war between good and evil. In fact, the gods are often times shown as being flawed and in some ways no better than the giants, with a good example being Thor almost letting the world end to fuel his own vanity, when he tries to catch Jömungandr. Secondly, Ragnarökr is not an apocalypse in the traditional western understanding, it is the natural culmination of a longlasting conflict between two feuding kins. Ragnarökr isn't even shown as a wholly terrible event, brought on by the forces of chaos, but rather an inevitable catastrophy brought on partly due to the vanity and arrogance of the gods, and the desire of revenge harboured by the giants ever since Ymir was slain by Odin and his brothers. And finally, Ragnarökr isn't even the end, since the gods reunite after their deaths (even Baldr is resurrected and reunited with his family), and two of Thor's sons (Magni and Modi) take on the mantle of thundergods.
@@Steve_the_Radroach Small correction to your correction: Firstly, I am completely aware that the Giants and other such creatures are not inherently evil, but for the sake of not having to try and fully explain the essence of the chaos that is Ragnarock, I chose to simplify it in a way that people who aren't familiar with norse mythology might understand. And in the quote from the video, the Nords of Sovengaurd ARE fighting the forces of evil, so it was an apt comparison to make. Secondly, I don't know what part of the west YOUR from, but where I'M from thousands to millions of people dying in a semi magical battle, with a wolf eating the sun and moon, and a bunch of other crazy shit, would in fact, be classified as an apocalyptic event. It is even expressly called an apocalypse in several versions of the myths. And did you not read the part where I explicitly state that despite being described as the literal end of the world, that people DO IN FACT survive? Because I definitely said that. And finally, there are hundreds of variations of Norse mythology, as with any big mythology like the Greeks, Egyptians, Aztecs, etc. No one myth is told exactly the same, and there will always be different variations. I've been studying Mythology for nearly 7 years now, and while granted I'm more familiar with the Greek Myths than the Norse ones, I'm still pretty well versed. Given that there are so many different ways the myths are told, it's pretty much pointless to even argue about it on the internet because both people are likely just reciting the version they heard, and are technically both correct, but since you went out of your way to be a nit picking, holier than thou lore nerd, and I enjoy arguing about stupid shit on the internet, I've decided I'll indulge you by typing this response. - Sincerely, a bitch™
@@Steve_the_Radroach It would be wrong to interpret Ragnarok as merely the conclusion of a feud considering its hermeneutic elements. Additionally, attributing an eschatology to Ragnarok is more than adequate, considering that its name means "twilight of the gods," indicating the nadir of the aesir, the forces of order, light, and the sky. Presumably, the collapse of the heroic forces of the sky to the elemental forces of the earth would produce an earthly life devoid of consecration, honor, and piety, which seems rather apocalyptic to me considering these values were sacrosanct in medieval Scandinavia. Additionally, we have to consider its similarity to other eschatological myths and how they relate to traditional metaphysics. It's pretty evident from the texts, Voluspa for example, that Ragnarok is cyclical, just like the eschaton in many other religions. In the Hindu tradition, the world is destroyed by a great flood at the end of every kalpa before it is renewed. Likewise, in the Edda, the world is covered in waters before the re-emergence of the surviving aesir. The parallels to the Christian diluvial myth are obvious. Many other traditions, including the ancient Aztec tradition, speak of a similar apocalyptic flood. In the Hellenic tradition, the myth of the lost city of Atlantis and the race of Atlanteans has a similar meaning -- there was a primordial order that was destroyed in a great flood due to the rise of chaos and immorality -- its survivors migrated out and reached new lands, founding new civilizations in a "new cycle" if you will. Now, let's discuss Traditional metaphysics. All of these myths relate to the traditional idea of the worldly cycle. Since time is a created limitation of the cosmos, beings on Earth experience life in small, limited episodes. However, these small episodes cannot reveal all possibilities that are sensible completely to those spiritual beings outside of time. The cosmos, being a reflection of immaterial forms, must manifest every possible configuration, but it is delimited by time, so it thus undergoes a cycle. This idea of the opposition of time to that which is beyond time can be expressed by the idiom "time is a flat circle." In limitation, we experience a series of events and creations. Without limitation, we see all possible events and creations at once. Beyond time, the beginning and the end of the world are united as contrarieties. Inside of time, they proceed along as a series. The Buddhists called this cyclical reality samsara, identifying change in the world, and changelessness in the unconditioned. The platonists, hermeticsts, hindus, and other non-dualists saw the world as an imperfect reflection of forms that pre-exist and determine it. If you could zoom out and see all the forms at once, there would be no cycles. It would be like a spreadsheet with the new earth and Ragnarok juxtaposed at once. Basically, almost every tradition admitted to the law of cosmic cycles, and consequently, to such a thing as an apocalypse or destruction at the end of the cycle: Order must give in to chaos in the world, which must then give back into order, to reflect the balanced contrariety that exists in the immaterial realm of forms. The final age, the Hindu Kali Yuga, Hesiod's iron age, or in the Edda, the age of the wolf (Fenrir) or the age of the battleaxe, bears every sign of apocalyptic times. It would be utterly wrong to say it isn't a form of eschatology. The sky has always been connected with the supreme principle. Light (knowledge,) life (heat/being,) and transcendence of material limitations (angels, birds, etc.) This connection is especially apparent when we consider how the Indo-European god of the sky, Dyeus Pater, who was the supreme god of the pantheon, became Zeus, Wotan/Odin, Jupiter, and Dyaus. The aesir are also connected with light, being, order, and transcendence/overcoming. Their downfall is also the downfall of the supreme forces, which by any definition, is apocalyptic.
@@arikira5492 Ok, I seem to have conveyed the entirely wrong message. I'm not trying to do a "holier than thou" thing here. Although I'd agree with you that the cataclysm that is Ragnarökr isn't excactly a peaceful event (understatement of the year) I don't ever recall the word apocalypse or any such being used in the myths I have read pertaining to the event. I'm sure this is most likely a misunderstanding being brought on by the two of us having read different parts of the mythos that (unsurprisingly) isn't consistent all the time. I'd actually like to know in what capacity you have been studying mythology (please note, I'm not trying to sound condescending or disingenuous here, I mean no offence what so ever).

That’s been around for a few years now, musta skilled the previous version and came back in the anniversary edition.
There are many similarities between European pagan mythology and Vedic Indian mythology
I think everyone knows Sovngarde is based on Valhalla
and get eaten- XD
Not everyone if they don't know or feel like reading up on stuff like this.
Not just Fenrir bro.
Ragnarok is a war between the gods that'll destroy the world.
@@VIofCaffeine you don't need to read up on it because it's blatantly obvious.
As a matter of fact, Khajit lore states that there IS in fact a Ragnarok type event coming on and where the cat equivalent of Kyne gathers all of the souls of the dead at the end of times for some sort of cat-based ragnarok
"Khenarthi carries the souls of dead Khajiit to Azurah for judgment, and is also her messenger. At the end of time, it is her clarion call that will summon the eternal united spirit of all Khajiit to defend creation."
It's chronologically the first religion, so its the most accurate- if cat based
Whats more likely that is that shes doing that not just for the nords, but for the khajit as well. And the Shor/Lorkhan is the guy housing/chilling with the nord souls in the meanwhile
Yeah as I listened to him talk about it I kept thinking 'Ragnarok' 'Yeah, sounds like Ragnarok'
The end of one Kalpa bleeds into the start of the next, and the final battle between Shor/Lorkhan and Auriel/Akatosh mirrors the battle in the Dawn Era between those two
This is crazy I was literally just thinking about your channel a few hours ago. Hope all is well. Glad you are back
Lol so cool to see other people look forward to what I do
I think that the final battle is the series equivalent of Ragnarok. Shor sounds almost like Odin in that he rewards honorable deaths by allowing them into Valhalla. Now replace the word Odin with Shor, and Valhalla with Sovngarde. Makes sense, considering that skyrim and Nords in general are based off of viking stuff.
You're extremely slow if you're just realizing that
@@Assassino275 not everyone thinks it is the equivalent of Ragnarok. Also we aren't dicks to each other in this community
I hate to be the guy but it's norse mythology, not viking. Vikings were only the dudes that went on a raiding trip.
That's exactly what I think
@@DangeHD yeah you should really hate to be that guy. Even I a pagan still use that kind of language especially when talking to someone who might not know much about the mythology. Which is exactly what he is doing
Edit: Valhalla is really only there for warriors not soldiers you standard infantry would not be going to Valhalla If they died in battle.

About the sovngard's "last battle" : when you talk to Kodlac's ghost (companions boss), he says something about "invading Hircine's realm". So maybe the last battle is kinda of a gods VS deadra war
I think it was poor phrasing - he said fighting with but meant fighting against.
He is talking about that because when you free his spirit he says one day he wants to go free all of the other companions who didn't get to cure themselves of lycanthropy before dying from Hircine, nothing intimately related to the actual lore
Aren't nords based on Viking or the nords of our world
If so then isn't sovengard just like valhala where the slain warriors await the final war (ragnarok) which resets the world
@@suryanshsoni8809 Yes.

"Tiny Details" and goes on to explain large chunks of lore. You love to see it! That's why I'm subscribed!

"Where heroes wait to follow Shor to the Final Battle" if Sovngarde's links to Valhalla are anything to go off of, what he's referring to is the end of all things, the Tamrielic equivalent to Ragnarok.
Came here to say this
Surely that would be when Alduin returns for the final time then
Damn that Mitten Squad shout was great! Happy to see you again dude!
And now that Nate has returned, the real game can finally begin
Fun fact: In the Thieves Guild quest 'Scoundrel's Folly', if you sneak past all the bandits in Brinewater Grotto, speak with Gulum-Ei and use a pacification spell such as Harmony to pacify the bandits without killing them, they will completely stop being hostile to you. You can even exit and re-enter the cave and they still won't attack you.

TheEpicNate315 I have one thing I don’t believe you have covered about Skyrim, The Kathwasten Massacre. Now, as far as I know, we don’t know much about it. The only reason I know of it is because of the option in the graybeards council between Ulfric and Tulius. In this your given the option to punish Ulfric and make him pay the empire for his crimes or let him go, Ulfric heavily disputes this though, and denies that it was a massacre. a little "tiny" detail i haven't yet seen (unless i somehow skipped it) is the following:
- at the beginning, when you're asked to go to Bleak Falls Barrow, if instead one goes to Whiterun (we know that Farengar gives us the quest to retrieve the dragon stone later used by Delphine to check out the dragon burials and somehow always ended up with the "oh, this stone?" response 'cos we already had it) but, if you go to Whiterun in order to, say, pick up a couple useful spells before entering the dungeon, Delphine can be seen there, talking to Farengar who refers to her as his "associate".
Thanks =)
"The final battle"
It's all based on Nordic lore, it's Ragnarok, after which the world will start anew.
Those who died with honor and fight, die, drink and feast each day in the halls of Valhǫll will follow the Æsir into battle to vanquish Fenrir, Jörmungandr and try to stop everything from ending.
For the most part, we will fail, though a new sun will set when all is done. :)
(Yes, I know this is a very simplified explanation, I can't be arsed to write it all down, feel free to dive into the lore and history, it's quite amazing)
Norse mythology is Scandinavian rather than Nordic. Finnish mythology is very different.
@@TV-jn4dh with "Nordic" I meant Norse, not the ingame Nordic. ;)
@@Emma-pl1qz I thought you meant real life 'Nordic', since in game Nordic(or Nord) lore couldn't be based on itself.
I seem to recall some (speculation?) that in Skyrim the player's killing Alduin breaks the cycle, and that's why the world DOESN'T reform.

NATE! You have no idea how excited I was to see this video pop up. Hope you're doing well!
You have so many videos in your "Everything Skyrim" playlist that someone could watch one video every day for a year.
small thing i just noticed and not sure whether you covered it in one of your videos: just northwest of dawnstar, around halfway to the shipwreck is helas something, there is like a small shack with two beds, a lot of red mountain flowers, some wine bottles and an amulett of mara.
What I'm trying to say is
Alduin's a Stormcloak.
@@joshuagross3151 that would be hilarious

But if you kill a dragon near a town they will gather around the dead dragon. But the interesting part is Hitting the dragon with a fire bolt spell. The skeleton will be blasted away, far. And the villager will go after it.
its actually common. Maybe thats why they haven't included that.
So I could do that and then looot the entire town?
Nate, maybe you know this, maybe you don't.
Serana will actually perform the black sacrament if you take her to the Arentino home in Windhelm.
Who is she performing the black sacrament to kill? Harkon?
Does she perform the sacrament in Riften too?
Also do we know who Maven Black Briar is trying to kill?
Sounds like a Skyrim mystery episode to me.
Serana is programmed to trigger all specific animations
You can take her to the shrine of Molag Bal in Haunted House in Markarth, where she will act "being imprisoned in the sacrificial cage"
I was quite surprised seeing this the first time
This game is what I grew up on and i wish I could experience those memories again

I believe the "final battle" and Sovngard are meant to represent Valhalla and ragnarock from Norse myths as Valhalla is a place where warriors go when they die valiantly and are kept "alive" so they may fight in ragnarock should it come to pass
Considering how the Nords and their culture are at least based on Vikings, yea it's kinda obvious that Sovngarde is based on Valhalla.
Twas what i was thinking.
@@VikingrNL I'd assume Jormungandr is Alduin, seeing as Jormungandr is supposed to devour the Gods and Alduin is the literal world eater.
@@Fr0staX This exactly. Although, Jormundgandr is also said to eat the whole of Asgard, thus resulting in its destruction, so Alduin definitely fits the Jormundgandr bill.
A full years worth of videos in the Skyrim playlist is just satisfying to see
I distinctly remember hearing that line about the final battle from my very first play through back in 2011
Man Nate it’s so good to have you back I couldn’t stop smiling when I saw your new video I smiled through it all
The final battle kind of sounds like Ragnarock from Norse mythology, which seems like a fitting reference.
