- #1 Melodi Grand Prix 1998: Lars A. Fredriksen - All I Ever Wanted Was You. The song was translated to "Alltid Sommer" (Always Summer) for the Eurovision Song Contest final.
Whoever gave him the makeover before Birmingham deserves an award.
Thank God this song took part in 98 and not one year later because it's 100 times better in Norwegian
1998 the year that you could sing in english in the norwegian qualification, but had to sing in norwegian in the ESC.
But why the hell was that for?
Don't know. Maybe so that some young/cool norwegian songwriters who wrote in english, would want to join this competition?
It's not a terrible translation - I've heard worse, but lyrically it's a bit old for him (he was clearly there for the teenage televote) and it's lost the carefree summer vibe of the Norwegian original. I think it could have been a dark horse in English, with a better translation.

This is not a translation. This is the original. His sister made a norwegian version after he won the norwegian qualifier. Because in 1998 they could sing in english in the national qualifer, but had to sing in norwegian in the ESC. So you can say that in got a carefree summer vibe. It didn’t lose it😉
@@saganini Ah that's interesting! Bit like Sweden 1979 which was also written in English for an international market but had to be translated back to Swedish for Eurovision. So yes, I definitely prefer the Norwegian lyrics.
Incredible, I don't understand Norwegian language, but the Norwegian version which was made after "Alltid Sommer" (which he has sung in ESC) is very better than the original in English language, really sometimes the versions are better than the original.
Basicly the lyrics are quite close, appart from the title, though. It's written in the Norwegian way of saying things.
"Honey I can read your mind like nothing works"
Norwegian: Dine øyne leser jeg som en åpen bok.
(I can read your eyes like an open book).
He's my uncle!
He's not the same person ;)
Norwegian version a lot better than this English version. Thanks God in 1998 it was duty to sing in its own language.
Shades of "Mandy" by Barry Manilow?
alesta81 I suppose that Lars A. Fredriksen is not the same that Lars Frederiksen, isn´t he? I´m from Mexico and don´t know if he was punk before.
Greetings
Honestly I'll prefer the original English version than it's Norwegian one, the way he pronouced the song in his performance with English was much better than he did with Norwegian.
@memoazul64 Hih, don't think Lars Fredriksen knows what punk is. So, no, definitely not same person.
Glætt fyr...
100% better on the night, sung in Norwegian. He got a better hairdresser as well!!
The short haircut took years off him!
The chorus in English totally loses the sense of "Summer Forever"
Maybe that hadn’t «Summer Forever» in mind when they made this chorus.
The norwegian version were made after they qualified for ESC.
The same backgroundsingers ... but he was so much sweeter then ... :-(
he looks so much like Rick Mayall.. it's scary
Awful in English
