      indeed. it's not quite the same way he loses to shredder, where they both have the same exact skill set, but shredder did a few more years of training, but it is totally what an out-of-practice ninja will do against a street fighter on home turf, will do to a man he's several weight classes above. Bane is just that bit bigger, with longer reach, and a harder punch. But, then again, i'd have liked to see this Bane try to fight someone who's 6'7 and close to 300lbs - those categories are in fighting sports for a reason.

      I agree with the principle, but thats not what happened to Wayne. Unlike most comic heroes, Bruce is human. He is highly trained and skilled, but by this point, his health had deteriorated. His body had taken years of punishment to the point where he had no cartilage in his knees, his joints were shot, he was older, slower, etc. Bane meanwhile was in his prime, twice the size, etc. Thats part of what made this Batman so compelling. He was human, vulnerable, and able to be defeated.

    The best line in this whole scene for me is: ''Theatricality and deception. Powerful agents to the uninitiated. But we are initiated. Aren't we Bruce?''
    That's when Batman realizes that everything he learned, everything he uses, everything he knows and does will not work on Bane. You can see this realization and you can see he is afraid after that. He then tries to use his greatest asset. Dark. And that's when Bane breaks him before actually breaking his back by taking that away from him too. He now knows that for this guy he needs something else, something more. One of the greatest scenes in Batman history. Not just movies, but overall.

    What a scene. All that training, all the gadgets, strength that is still incredible -- and Bane just walks through it while casually explaining why he's winning. Best part is, it's not a bunch of bull whipped up by bad writers. It's well written and everything he says makes sense. No one is the best forever. You punch hard, somewhere there's a guy who punches harder. You know the dark, somewhere there's a guy who knows it better. Bane is that guy, simple as that.

    Bane is like an animal with no natural predators. There's no hatred or anger in his violence. He talks to prey as if he hopes to help them accept their place in the food chain. It's like being eaten alive by a creature that sympathizes with your struggle to escape. It chews on your flesh while enlightening you of your natural place in the food chain. It is disappointed in you for not being at peace with your purpose as prey.
    His presence is so disturbing because it's like making eye contact with an animal that shattered a zoo enclosure and you realize how little power you have.

    There's a brilliance to this fight scene that isn't like many others. The slow, almost intentionally choregraphed, fighting is beautifully synched with compelling dialog. The panning to his henchmen standing up above, to cat-woman, and back between Bane and Bruce, is masterfully done as it sets the scene perfectly. To express the Batman is absolutely helpless here, and that Bane has the upper-hand. And then of course, ending the scene by first showing Bruce that he's gonna lose everything, breaking him in two, and then removing a part of his mask to metaphorically show a shattered piece of the Batman.

  • @jamesburk8145

    I love this scene. This is the true Knightfall Bane. The comics and movies usually just make him a mindless brute but in his appearance he strategized and figured out who batman was and destroyed him through attrition. • @Fugax_8

    One of the best things about this scene, is the cuts to Bane’s henchmen. They look like they are simultaneously bored, and concerned about what Bane will do. None of them try to help Bane because they know Batman has no chance.
    It’s just such a clever way of letting the audience know just how powerful Bane is. Bane’s henchmen have seen him destroy formidable opponents countless times before, and this is almost boring for them.

      isn't it weird that NO ONE in this League of Shadows displays any kind of ninja/stealth or martial art skill whatsoever. everyone just looks and behaves like a typical thug. there's not a shred of connection evident to the LoS in Batman Begins and i personally found that utterly disappointing and a grave oversight from Nolan. the discrepancy is painfully evident in the mass snow brawl against the cops in the final act

    • @kuyt20
      @kuyt20 2 года назад +6

      @@austinsavage I understand what you're saying. But did they even have to? I believe they were emulating normal soldier behavior with their uniforms and general demeanor. I can't see how behaving like they did in BB would have any advantages other than taking up more of their time. What good would lurking in the shadows with ninja attire have done for them in this movie other than bring more attention to the LOS? At least with the uniforms they can claim to be any random terrorist group, if caught. They were trying to publicly destroy the whole city in broad daylight and declaring it with a microphone and again later Live on TV. Wearing LOS ninja attire for all of that would seem a tad ridiculous, no?
      Trust me. This is no oversight on Nolan's part. He crafted the LOS in BB ffs. He doesn't have THAT short a memory. There would have been a discussion on how to present the LOS in the current day Gotham. They would probably have looked at how they wanted Bane to go about his business and thought that bringing back the attires, katana, hiding, etc. would not fit the tone of their version of Bane. Its most definitely deliberate, not an oversight.

    • @austinsavage
      @austinsavage 2 года назад +4

      @@kuyt20 i get what ur saying and i dont completely disagree, but i was referring more to how they fight and move rather than just wearing ninja costumes. They had lots of fights against Batman, Blake and the cops so plenty of opportunities for Nolan to weave in ‘connecting tissues’ to LoS in BB, but everyone just brawls like a thug without any display of skill whatsoever. These guys were trained in LoS since young, there s no way u can forget muscle memory just because you’re out of ur ninja costume and holding guns instead of katana. Yes Nolan made BB and TDK both masterpieces, but doesnt mean he cant take a mistep with TDKR, which contains a ton of glaring narrative, character and logic oversights. Look at Spielberg with Indiana Jones 4. TDKR is Indy 4 in my book

    • @kuyt20
      @kuyt20 2 года назад +1

      @@austinsavage - TBF, in TDK, Batman had already stopped fighting like he did in BB. So its not just in TDKR. And moreover, wasn't there a report during the BB days that said the production crew wanted to hide the fight scenes as much as possible using quick cuts, blur, shadows, etc., because the fight choreography was slow and not great? They did similar things in TDK but with a bit more lighting on the fights, but there were a lot less number of fights anyway.
      What I'm trying to say is that, the fight sequences were not great in either BB or TDK. And Nolan knew this too, but luckily, fight choreography wasn't the focus of those two movies anyway. In the case of TDKR, the two Bane vs Batman fights are, or at least the first one is very important. And even that was slow-paced and very grounded, which was actually what made sense for the franchise.
      So to sum it up, the fights in BB were no better than the rest of the movies. They just used post-production editing to hide the big flaws in what would otherwise have been very underwhelming ninja fights. That kind of trick would not have worked with what they wanted to portray in the Bane fight. The audience needed to see every inch of the brutal beatdown suffered by Batman in what is essentially a very un-ninja-like fight.

The entire point was to show just how far Batman has fallen and the slowness shows that, and the brawl-like style shows how personal the plot/conflict is to Batman. He's older, worn, and bitter in this movie. Both the plot points and the fighting choreography shows why he needed to make the decision to retire in the end. It's like people have become so spoiled by Marvel and Arkhamverse fight scenes that they've forgotten how to appreciate it when details such fight choreography and the like are used to push a story's themes and plot.

      +deraj nitram far from perfect, but still far better than 99% of the superhero crap out there.

      Skyswindler I won't argue with that, but initially TDKR let me down when I first saw it, over time it's grown on me though I still like it the least of the three films. BVS has good parts, but the film overall is a scatter brained mess that tires to set up too many things.
