Ship upgrades don't apply to squadron ships. Instead the pilot gets a rating from C-S, which is randomly assigned. You can upgrade a Pilot's rating in the Manage Squadron menu using nanites. I recommend pulling out any mods you have installed in the ship before trading it to the pilot. That way you can keep it to outfit one of your ships.
You can also just set a base and a landing pad right next to a crashed sentinel ship, save and reload and you'll have NPC standing next to the crashed Interceptor. No need to spend any units for ship exchange
That's a nice method too, I'd have to try it and see if it works. Crashed ships you can claim generally don't get assigned a pilot. The Sentinel ships are high in value so when you trade the ship you aren't spending any units to make the trade. You actually make units if you then scrap the ship you traded for to recruit the pilot.

This is for adding a sentinel ship to your squadron. Upgrades and other stats before making any trades have no impact on the stats once added to your squadron. You have the ability to upgrade the pilot on your freighter once it's part of the squad.
My main motivation was so I could keep some models of the ships around, as I have 11 of my 12 slots full. I only have one of the Sentinel ships in my squad, so I can't say with certainty that they do any extra damage or have better performance in targeting the enemy ships. Most of the time I use the squad to distract the enemy ships long enough to avoid the battle by flying away if I'm in a hurry, or as a distraction from being shot myself. They do help in the battles I've been in by, as you noted, keeping enemy shields down, or by finishing off ships I've damaged.

No. Squadron class and skill is based on the pilot. The pilot will be randomly assigned a rating when you trade them the ship. You can upgrade the pilot in the manage squadron menu using nanites. Store any installed mods to use in the ships you pilot yourself.
Squadron pilots get a class rating. Upgrades are not calculated in their performance or damage output. Adding upgrades to the ship before trading and adding to the squad will not change the way they perform or the weapons they use as part of the squad.
Yeah, it's randomly assigned. Luckily its fairly easy upgrade them. Scan a few planets with if Fauna and collect the nanites and you should have what you need to upgrade.
Some obvious things about this system bother me. No pilot ever refuses. Why can't I change my squadron's existing ships? Does any of this matter much. Other than keeping a shield down for a second squadrons are cosmetic.
Squadrons are meant to be support. If they were overpowered, then they'd be taking kills from the player and I'm sure people would abuse them to take out enemies without firing a shot themselves. They do help take out ships with low health, or as you mentioned take down shields to make kills quicker. In larger battles they can also distract enemy ships giving them another target besides you. There is definitely room to improve upon the concept and provide more depth to their management and usefulness to the player.
Yes. Squadron ships are rated on pilot skill and not the actual ship. Pilot rating will be randomly assigned when you trade the ship to the NPC. Store your upgrades before trading so you have them for another ship.
I haven't tried it, but technically yes. When you recruit the pilot, the ship will immediately fly off, but a copy of it will fly back into the space station in the next wave of ships. When it lands you could recruit that pilot too, as long as you have a slot open in your squadron. Rinse and repeat for all 4 slots if you wanted. Just note, the pilot will be randomly assigned a class for each one you recruit. You can upgrade the pilot from your manage squadron menu using nanites.
Im trying this, I have 3 pilots all in the same ship as my Main ship (plan to have 5 of the same sentinel ship together) but I cant recruit the last one yet after a couple of hours trying..I will persist
The main thing is is that if you want a full sentinel squadron you’d need to do a lot of grinding for several sentinel ships So this could mean alot of fighting sentinels in space and alot of work to reconstruct the brains of the ships Which as we all know are both very painful The easiest method of bypassing all of this is setting your game to creative mode difficulty settings and then changing back when your done with building your squadron
Upgrades don't apply to squadron ships. Remove any extra ones you've installed before the trade. Squadron pilots are what get class ratings, and that is completely randomized when you trade the ship to the pilot. You can upgrade your pilot using nanites in the manage squadron menu.
You can dismiss a squadron pilots from your freighter. There is a manage fleet station select that, select manage Squadron, hover over the pilot you want to dismiss with the cursor and the key press to confirm will show on the HUD.
Neat idea to have more sentinel ships about. However I heard from people squadron is rather useless and does no damage, doesn't divert shots from you, etc. Can they be hurt by you, or destroyed by you/enemy via missed shots?
Your squadron ships can't be destroyed by yourself or enemy ships. They don't do as much damage as your own ship does, but they do engage and hurt enemy ships. Mine generally help finish off ships I've already engaged and lowered their health and they do help as distractions for enemy ships. If they did more than that, they'd end up being overpowered due to not being destructible in my opinion.
@velinshishkov384 the class of the pilot is always random when you add them to the squadron. The ship class has no impact. You can upgrade the pilots skill on your freighter by managing your squadron.

if you upgrade the ship will it give them all the upgrades as well?
No, squadron ships use the base weapon and their effectiveness is based on the pilot class. Pilot class can be upgraded from your fleet management.
@@VladministratorGaming 😩 that bites but I appreciate this tidbit
@@Jonathan1002887 the good news is they're constantly adding new content and improving existing systems, so we may get more control in the future.
Sometimes they do refuse
Will the starship's upgrades be gone after I gave them the ship?
Yes. Squadron ships are rated on pilot skill and not the actual ship. Pilot rating will be randomly assigned when you trade the ship to the NPC. Store your upgrades before trading so you have them for another ship.
So could you do this 4 times in a row with the same ship
I haven't tried it, but technically yes. When you recruit the pilot, the ship will immediately fly off, but a copy of it will fly back into the space station in the next wave of ships. When it lands you could recruit that pilot too, as long as you have a slot open in your squadron. Rinse and repeat for all 4 slots if you wanted. Just note, the pilot will be randomly assigned a class for each one you recruit. You can upgrade the pilot from your manage squadron menu using nanites.
@@VladministratorGaming might give it a go
Im trying this, I have 3 pilots all in the same ship as my Main ship (plan to have 5 of the same sentinel ship together) but I cant recruit the last one yet after a couple of hours trying..I will persist
The main thing is is that if you want a full sentinel squadron you’d need to do a lot of grinding for several sentinel ships
So this could mean alot of fighting sentinels in space and alot of work to reconstruct the brains of the ships
Which as we all know are both very painful
The easiest method of bypassing all of this is setting your game to creative mode difficulty settings and then changing back when your done with building your squadron
If I change the ship I upgraded the weapons and shield and recruit a pilot, will he still have the upgrades to use?
Upgrades don't apply to squadron ships. Remove any extra ones you've installed before the trade. Squadron pilots are what get class ratings, and that is completely randomized when you trade the ship to the pilot. You can upgrade your pilot using nanites in the manage squadron menu.
Can’t delete ships
How did you do that
You can dismiss a squadron pilots from your freighter.
That doesn't working anymore!!!
@@velinshishkov384 I'm sure it does.
@@VladministratorGaming when I exchange ship with s class npc, on the sentinel ship appears another npc with lower class
@velinshishkov384 the class of the pilot is always random when you add them to the squadron. The ship class has no impact. You can upgrade the pilots skill on your freighter by managing your squadron.
Trade and recruit … not worth a 3 min video. Kinda insulted you think we haven’t figured this out after years of playing.
Based on the feedback there are plenty of players that have benefited by this very short and to the point video. Not everyone has played for years or understands the mechanics fully. Each new update brings new players into the community who can benefit.
