An excellent reason for a biochemistry degree is that the subject matter is inherently interesting, and therefore will more likely be satisfying during life. Lab work in corporate or hospital labs may evolve with continuing education to higher specialties or teaching opportunities or to consulting gigs or to government labs work. Biochemistry can be an excellent deep background for law school, then on to technical law in patents or prosecution. And, if one gets really bored, remember that Isaac Asimov, an accomplished science fiction as well as non-fiction author, had a Ph.D. in biochemistry and a medical school teaching appointment. Long term, discovering and understanding how the biochemistry of microorganisms is translated into the many lives of our ecosystem, including human ones, is probably the greatest intellectual challenge facing humanity, and may be the source of our survival. Regardless of its job ranking, biochemistry is important knowledge in our lives.
Thanks a lot for your input
30 day challenge gang rolling in. You're the inspiration for me to keep making content all December long, Shane!
Good to know Andrew. More power to your channel
Great videos! I have one right up your ally... pharmacy vs pharmacology vs pharmaceutical science 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the suggestion
Please do this one I am so curious because I do not know which I want to go into!!!!!!!
Dual degree comparisons would be cool! MD/PhD vs PharmD/PhD vs MBA/PhD
Hello, here like everyday ♡♡♡ love your channel. I am from Dominican Republic .I dont speak English very well but I understand everything you say , it helps me to improve. Thanks for your dedication 💚💚💚💚
Thank you so much Elianny!! Welcome to my channel
I went for biochemistry & left with a Chem E degree, just because I wanted to do more
in my career. But there’s actually a lot of gov jobs you can get with this job mainly because of its quantitative properties so data science may be in your future.
im currently going into first year for biochem would you say you're better off doing a chemical engineering degree in the future?
Could you please go in-depth with biomedical engineering since I’m still in Hs and planning to major in it
Noted
Nice video bro! You covered some really important points about Biochem, Keep uploading more videos please!
Thanks, I will!
It's a great catalyst for getting into med school but also pharmacy school which some science degrees don't meet those prereqs
I blew up the algorithm, could you do one of these with Physics?
Thanks Arunan.. Stay tuned for Physics
agreed and physics PhD
Can you please make a video about supply chain management and logistics

Thanks for this video, Shane. One issue where I beg to differ is with regard to the versatility of science degrees. I believe that in the US, as a biochem major, it is possible to do a one-year postbac program in nursing, medical technology, etc. and pursue health-related careers that can pay themselves back rather quickly.
Another thing is that science doctorates (including PhD programs in biochem) usually provide tuition waiver with stipend in exchange for students to work for the program as a TA or a research assistant. It's like a 4 or 5-years-long paid internship. If your grades are good and you find the right programs, it is possible to leave school with a PhD and little to no debt.
This is not to mention the switch to finance or other emerging fields via a one-year MS, but one might need to pay for these programs.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Very valuable info you shared here
@@ShaneHummus Thank you so much for the reply to all comments. That is admirable of you.
My favorite channel and my favorite youtuber ❤
Thanks
You should make a video on B. Arch (bachelors of architecture.)
Stay tuned
I want to see this too.
I would never recommend science degrees to people unless they plan on doing graduate school to get a masters or PhD. The job market for science degrees are just terrible. So many get science degrees at the bachelors level and get no job. Even after getting honours. After 4 years of studying and no job, that’s just depressing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Halfway through the 30 day challenge, like and sub if you want me to keep going 😁
Go go go!
Keep going dude
now it makes sense why videos pop up every day haha
I might just start referring all my undecided/exploratory students to your channel. 😄 as always, great overview, Shane!
When are u going to talk about studying philosophy
Awesome video. I'm actually contemplating doing this major.
Go for it! Just plan it out well
I would love to watch computer science vs computer engineering, computer science/computer engineering + mathematics vs computer science/computer engineering + physics, and the best jobs for an associates degree in computer science/pre-engineering!
Interesting, I might consider that Joey
@@ShaneHummus Thank you, Shane! Love your channel! It’s my favorite!
Underrated yt channel
Please do a video on biotechnology.
Stay tuned
Dude, I just graduated with this degree.
Congrats Daniel!
@@angelusvastator1297 Thank you so much 😁
So what are you doing now?
@@krishnalaxkar4507 I’ve actually just finished applications for medical school this cycle.
@@Hector_Moira cool , hope you get into the med school of your choice 👍.
Shane, I would like to see you do a video on the most difficult degrees.
Surviving the 30 day challenge so far Shane. I totally appreciate your hard work. Smashed like!
Thank you Samantha
I got accepted to a few universities with a biochemistry major but I don’t know if I want to go through with it. Chemistry was hard for me but I want to go to medical school right after I graduate. I applied to schools with biochemistry and biology majors. I was leaning towards more regular biology but what do y’all think?
Well, with both degrees, you are guaranteed to take general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. A Biochemistry degree, in my mind, is just a chemistry major with a biology minor. So in addition to taking classes in all the other branches of chemistry (Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry), you will probably take some classes like Cell biology, microbiology, and genetics.
As for a biology major, you'll probably classes take like immunology, physiology, anatomy, etc. That's advantageous because you'll be a bit familiar with these subjects when they inevitably come up in medical school. However, it depends on the school, so I would check the catalogs of the universities you're thinking about attending.
I'll also add that there's more advanced math involved in a Chemistry Major than a Biology Major. Anyone who has taken Physical Chemistry knows what I'm talking about.
All in all, if you're motivated, you'll do well in either major.
Hope this helps you in your decision!
Thanks Shane for your great videos. I have some suggestions for questions :
Is an MBA worth it ?
What are the highest-paying online degrees ?
What are the best degrees for "street smart" type of people ?
What are the most versatile degrees you can pursue ?
What are the best degree for people who want to work internationally ?
Thanks for the questions Jean. I might have a video to answer all that
Great vid as usual! Can you do vids on a math degree and a stats degree?
Possibly! Stay tuned for that Naasik
OMG its 2.18am in the early morning! Thankz for the video
Enjoy!
I’m watching this as a biochem and molecular bio student. Hoping for the best😬
Quality videos as always, impressive!
Glad you like them!
This was me with this degree.. I feel that it is a must to get an advance degree to get a job.. I went from research assistance while in school and then to biotech.. even though was in a lab, I ended up not doing any chemistry work at all (with minuscule pay) and now taking accounting prereqs to get into Masters .. ughh where was this video when I went to school?!
Thanks for watching
i’ve been waiting for this one! love the vid! how about medical anthropology?
Thanks Ari. I might make one for anthropology in the future
It sucks

Can you talk about the biotechnology career/major? I’ve been looking for a video but I’ve never found a good one about this.
Hi, Shane. Great video! Have you ever covered a pharmacology degree (non-PharmD).

@@ShaneHummus still tuned in hahaha
I think these videos are about USA. In my country, biochemistry has not better prospects than chemistry( for example food chemistry)
The video is targeted to audiences in the U.S.A yes
Good news- I’m still thinking about my major
Bad news- Chemistry/biochemistry was a highly considered degree
You can still make it work, just make sure you plan it out. You're likely gonna have to make a plan with any degree honestly, so don't let that discourage you
Hey ! What subjects did u major in ? I m currently planning on bio chem+MBA is it a good option ?
hi! I'm a bit conflicted on my current major, and I always look to your videos for advice :) could you do one of these with biomedical engineering? there's a lot of controversy on whether or not it's a good undergraduate engineering degree, and I'd love to hear your take. tysm! :)

Great topic Shane, smashed like to defeat the evil algorithm.

Should I go for a PhD in Biochemistry because I love chemistry and it is my passion or should I become a Chemical Engineer even though it is less about chemistry and more about math and physics but I still like Chemical Engineering?
Depends on your plans
If you want a great paying job with good demand, then it’s the engineering path duh
If you know what you would wanna do with that PhD, I’d say Biochemistry. However, if you just want something chemistry related, more secure, and you also enjoy math and physics, I would say chemical engineering
Can’t wait for physics 🤗
