Doesn't quite seem like a full point release, but I think people are forgetting what amazing value for money the Affinity products are. I paid one price for Affinity Photo (I think £40) back in 2015, and all updates until now have been free, if I was to have done the same with Adobe Photoshop I would have by now forked out £840 and the moment I stopped paying Photoshop would be bricked and stop working whereas I can keep using Affinity Photo 1 forever (in theory), there's no-one forcing anyone to upgrade to v2 who doesn't want to... and if I'd done the same for Photoshop + Illustrator I think that would have cost me about £2,400, which is INSANE! I moved to Affinity's suite of applications as soon as Adobe went subscription and my CS6 started to become useless and I haven't looked back. Affinity are a great team.
I checked my emails, and I bought Affinity Photo v1 five years ago. ~$50 for five years of constant updates and improvements is an absolute bargain, and I happily bought my v2 suite master licence last night without hesitation.
that's not the point, it's not about the money. affinity photo was originally marketed as a one-time payment alternative to other subscription-based softwares. so people would expect it to continue being updated in perpetuity for free after that one-time payment, just like apple's mac os. that's problem no. 1. problem no. 2 is users who already paid for ver. 1 will pay the same amount as users new to affinity photo. i'd expect users already having ver. 1 will pay a small fee to upgrade to ver. 2 at least while new users to ver. 2 can pay the full price we paid when we first got ver. 1.
Yeah, just in iPad you have to pay the full price again for an update that barely improved anything. Just a pathetic money grab. On top, its all buggy and crashes all the time. Just pure disappointment.
I find it unfair that people keep on comparing Affinity to Adobe. Adobe has been taking money for decades and probably has a massive team, for what Affinity has done in the few years I am impressed and thankful. I’m no professional but I did not have to pay some dumb monthly fee. Affinity is amazing for my use and I support it. 100 dlls for all three across devices is not something other programs provide.
Thank you for the support! I think what people don't realise is that we've been providing free V1 upgrades since 2015 (for Photo-2014 for Designer), and have always been transparent about the fact that V2 would be a paid upgrade. The company must be able to grow so we can keep providing these kind of updates that have been so popular for users...
Id rather pay a monthly fee and have a functional piece of software with top notch features, rather than a buggy piece of software that lacks 10 years behind. There is a web version clone of adobe photoshop that has more features than affinity, is not buggy as hell, doesnt crash... and its entirely for free. This is how pathetically lazy affinity got once they started seeing money poring in. Plus, I purchased affinity photo for iPad, now I have to pay the full price AGAIN, just to get a barely updated version... This is prolly the worst rip off ever.
I think we will always compare. It’s our nature. Reason being adobe in market since long time and we are not ready to pay monthly subscription yet want to get everything what adobe photoshop or Lightroom have. Even I did the same thing. But I purchased affinity v2. I might not be able to do bulk photo edit like Lightroom or open multiple pictures as a layer but I have workaround for that. For the time being affinity is serving my purpose. Luckily I am mostly into street, headshot and nature photography where i don’t need bulk edit but even if I need to, I do my usual edit in raw therapee and can move the pics directly to affinity. May be latter I might move to adobe or might not. But now busy learning affinity. :-)
affinity software is compared to adobe software because they both deliver more or less the same functions for consumers. I switched from Adobe Photoshop to Affinity Photo 2. Then I switched back for several reasons. overall, both are good apps, I just find Adobe Photoshop much more refined, with more features and less bugs. Either way, don't see how anyone can't compare the two. They literally compete against one another.
i feel if adobe again stops theirs subscription method then people will again most of the people will again move back to adobe suit …. I feel so … could be wrong…
Well I want to say this Outstanding. I have been away from photo editing for a while and getting back into it now. I had most of my exp. with Photoshop CS4 CS6, but dropped anything newer with the whole subscription, no purchase option debacle. Many alternatives available have crude, or sloppy editing, only good for basic editing at best, or just brutal workflows. Watching many Affinity vids recently have revealed your software a real powerhouse alternative to the PS subscription model. Thank You for providing a solid alternative. I hope both, your business and your software, grow immensely, I am all in.
This is a truly fantastic value. I don’t agree with the complaints of those who have used the software for 3-4yrs without paying any fees and yet complain that this release is not “major” enough to sell. To them I say stick with the version you have, it’s still awesome. I appreciate the work done over the years on Affinity and think the upgrades are well worth the asking price. Liked. Purchased. Done.
Just upgraded since it's on sale for black Friday. It's true its not adobe but this software has made me money for years when I need to do photo editing or graphic work on the spot at a big budget events. For the 1 time fee and having it on all my platforms it's a great deal with a good software
Good morning James, I must say I have learned so much watching your videos. I have a question, Is there a video demonstrating painting with the history brush.
Sir if you ever find yourself out of a job at this company I strongly suggest you get into the narrator/voice over business. Such a powerful and trust inspiring voice.
still no way to change the ruler guide colours, 4 years we have been asking for that simple change, otherwise nice changes to the gui and will definitely move up to V2 for the whole suite. BUT PLEASE LET US CHANGE THE RULER GUIDE COLOUR SOON
Don't get me wrong here... this is a huge upgrade and certainly made a great application even better but it's still so far behind compared to the competition. I was hoping to see some AI driven tools that are now standard in any basic photo editing software such as subject selection or sky selection tools. I was hoping also for a better third party plugin support, macro (actions) enhancements, and so much more.... I guess I'll have to wait another 4 to 5 years for V 3.0 for them to catch up to 2022 standards. I'm grateful for this advance and for the fact that Serif remain true and loyal to their non subscription based plan, but this didn't meet my expectations.
I am using the Affinity Photo 1 and I am experiencing an error with Korean text. I would appreciate it if you could fix this issue. 어피니티 포토 1 쓰고 있는데 한글 입력 오류 고쳐 주시면 감사하겠습니다.
Very nice improvements and definitely happy about the direction Affinity is going. I’m just waiting for the features that it lacks behind vs Photoshop. I want to see more support for the different persona modes, since it was developed around that. Definitely need improved liquify options. Auto masking. Seems edge detection is getting better but can always be better. Overall it has vastly improved just with this update. I love the new masking system and the ability to isolate. The changes introduce a more creative workflow that I’m excited to try out!
I decided not to use Photoshop because of the excessive subscription to Photoshop's monopoly. So I was using other image editing tools and found this place. I support your work. Please develop further and crush Photoshop. Be assured that there are many people who support you.
A long time Serif and Affinity user, bravo for this release. But since the UI has been updated, is is not high time to drop the ridiculous Persona names for the more logical Modes or Pages? Also, so frustrating that there is still no easy way to preview before and after adjustments, or filters? Panorama stitching needs an overhaul, with more user input into Projection methods and other parameters. Keep up the good work, will be upgrading. LIKED
Hello I'm having trouble with Affinity Photo 2 when I go to export it say's "An error occurred while exporting" all I'm exporting is a psd. the latest version I'm on is 2.1.0
I am trying to make a selection, spoke of a wheel and enlarge that selection. I have bought 4 books and none show the step by step process! Very disappointing! Anyone know of where to go for help?
Hello, with interest I watched the tutorial. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything about the deformation groups. Please let me know where or how I can find them on the interface.
My only problem is that I have no use for Designer or Publisher but I do use Affinity Photo on both Mac and Windows machines. So, either I pay for two separate licenses, or, pay for the universal license for about $20 more.
Ihave the previous version of affinity photo. How do I upgrade to this version. Is it free or do I have to pay the full price. I cant find anything that refers to upgrde. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Your vid makes this new version seem really good. Thank you.
I have also asked myself the same question, although the price is fabulous compared to Adobe, I hoped that Serif would take into account many of us, who have supported them from the beginning, with a loyalty incentive for update our versions of Affinity, but instead we seem to have to pay for new full price licenses.
Love the normals adjustment layer. You have me sold on that point alone. Worth the upgrade for me. And I love the new layer changes and live masks. And the new license is really cool of you. I was worried about you going to a sub model but you did great guys!
It seems I've followed RUclips tutorials 「how to add text to 360 photo /affinity photo tutorial」, but I still can't add text to 360 photos. Could you please advise where I might be going wrong? Thank you.
One thing that I wished that Affinity photo had was the camera calibration or something similar. I also wish that Affinity could fix where the actual software was installed, it seems that its install in the Windows Users folder which is odd to say the least when other software is stored in either Program Files or Program Files x86 folder
@@alexanderkeiblinger I met you yesterday at Walmart, you were that fella screaming his lungs off about theft and robbery when you learned that you have to put a coin in the cart.
has anyone else had a problem with a colour cast on images opened in Affinity photo 2 that isn't there if the image is viewed using other software on the same monitor? I'm finding that there is a faint sand coloured cast (almost like a skylight filter) in version 2 that wasn't in version 1 which I still run on my windows 7 PC. I can see that the matte box in the export menu is slightly yellow in version 2 where it's "white" in version 1 but I don't seem to be able to correct this by tweaking any of the sliders. ( the settings are the same on both versions). This is just an issue while I'm editing, as when I view the edited image in other software it's not there. It's just a bit disconcerting ignoring an urge to tweak the white balance while I'm working on an image.
Does someone know if I can make moving gifs in Affinity Photo 2? Like if I open a bunch of jpeg/png timelaps photos as different layers and export them as a gif or something similar. I can't figure out how to do it despite the gif output option when I export my project and can't find anything about it in the manual. I really don't wanna switch to a different editor for this.
Thank you very much James. I upgraded to v2 as soon as the new versions came out, and now I have finally some time to watch the features videos. The way Affinity is offering us three rock-solid alternatives to concurrent apps (at a stunning price!) is great.
More evolutionary than revolutionary. A little underwhelming given the way Serif had hyped it. Still, a nice piece of software but for my purposes, probably not worth "upgrading". Thanks James.
The thing that absolutely kills my productivity with Affinity applications is the lack of standard keyboard shortcuts. If you folks would simply offer an option in settings to match Photoshop and Illustrator keyboard shortcuts it would be a MASSIVE timesaver.
Where To Buy? I am a complete Novice. I'm helping my nephew start a business designing fashion using digital tools....is there a video that explains why I should buy these products....I'm a total newb.
So I downloaded the update trial version and attempted to give it a shot. As soon as I tried the program closed and I can't find it andmore. Even tried to re-install from the download file without success. Kind of tells me what I thought but I was at least willing to give it a shot.
Hi, major version upgrades are paid (eg V1 to V2), but point releases are free. Customers who paid for V1 back in 2014/2015 (for Designer and Photo) received free upgrades right until V2’s release last November, so they hopefully got a good deal out of it! When V3 releases in the future, do bear in mind that V2 will continue to work-so if you don’t need or want to upgrade, you won’t have to. Hope that helps.
Awesome software 🎉 I’ll be upgrading in the future. I’m overseas, and defaults to their currency which I don’t want to use. So, next month I hope to upgrade 💞
Good value and amazing software it is. Affinity 2 sounds good bur I find myself reverting to and using Affinity 1 more and more. Trying to work on an image in Affinity 2 after working on it in Affinity 1 will make the image unuseable in version 1. There are a few thngs in Affinity 2, which don't quite work the same, or work at all. Sometimes tools work, and sometimes they don't. Exiting the program and going back usually fixes this but it can be frustrating. Creative dodge and burn using curves works fine in Affinity 1 but is problematic in Affinity 2. When fixing a portrat I will use a layer to place hair stands for a more natural look, then continue making adjustments in other layers. With each new layer, the strands I've drawn get wider and wider making them look unnatural. This is not the case in Affinity 1. Even though the raw image is locked for editing in Affinity 2 it still changes. Affinity 1 is still amazing and works well. Once all the bugs are fixed I will try Affinity 2 again. Wit all the said improvements it should be even more amazing.
Нужна ли кому-то оф. программа Designer и Photo? Я не пользуюсь и ищу кому нужен полный пакет с ключами. Покупала ее еще до того как начались запреты на сотрудничество с Россией
Thank you. All very interesting. There are a couple of bugs and things I could do with Affinity 1 which cannot be done with Affinity 2 at the moment. All in all it is a great affordable photo editing software. I would like to know if I can make a circle or shape to a specified size. If anyone has any ideas how to do this I would be very grateful.
If you are a graphics designer that understands all the steps to get each layer to do what you want it to do then this is an unblievable value. If you are like me and layers are the pieces of cake between the frosting then it just goes over my head. But for Photography the non-destructive RAW capabilities at this price point compared to whatelse is on the Market are also an unbeliveable value. I like DXO a lot but do not have the ability to purchase new hardware every time they come out with an upgrade or Capture One which for me has limited use... then Affinity Photo for the Win. And I do have it and I like it. My only real issue is that Affinity Photo V1 does a really bad job working with Text. If I want to use Text on a small Logo for example I will just use my 1,000 year old copy of Photoshop. I also like the Photoshop filters better and the slider to reduce opacity and a few other small things. But you can't have everything perfect in just one Ap. this was an amazing run down of not just hte new features but how to use them. Thank You.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed. I bought Affinity back in 2018 on the understanding that all updates would be free until the next *"major release"* i.e V2.0 . OK so Now we have V2.0 being released but I cannot for the life of me see any upgrade that really warrants it being called a major upgrade to V2.0 rather than V1.11.0. So quite honestly I feel this is a bit of a cop out for Affinity, and just a means of getting us to pay for a fairly minor upgrade.
Wait so when you add layers - what are you actually edit not a raw image data?? Why not to do like LR - just constantly work with raw file 🤷🏻♂️ there is a reason why photography moved to LR and not PS
A DAM and batch-raw editor would make me a better person and air would smell sweeter. I guess Serif don't want to accidentally dominate the photography software space.
You could make a video about the embedded file and its editing through image processing (mask, deletion, color correction, effects, etc...) I personally tried it and it's ridiculous how slow it is compared to photoshop. Maybe you can help.
Very disappointing news. So now Affinity is being acquired by a firm that uses the same sub model as Adobe. Gee, I wonder if they will make any pricing model changes. So much for the ‘Revolution’.
I just bought the universal license using the 40% discount for Version 2. The installation left all three Version 1 APPs on my machine, no big deal , I can uninstall those myself. What I can't figure out is where Version 2 of the three APPs have been installed. I've scoured my drive and can't find the directory or files, yes I have ADMIN privileges and can see "Hidden" directories and files. Had to drag the icons from my Start menu in Windows 10 to have them on my desktop. APPs launch okay, but where the heck are the files??? Why would you hide them? Not happy about this at all. Not convinced of the value of this "upgrade" but trusting Affinity to deliver with significant free incremental improvements over the next year . . . we shall see. Tried to ask this on the Forums but my account got locked out. Not impressed.
If you downloaded the MSIX versions of the installers, then they will be installed in the "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.Affinity[etc]" folders. This is the standard behaviour for the MSIX format (which seems to be the preferred format going forward). The WindowsApps folder on your PC is probably invisible to normal users. If you want easier access to the EXE files, you might consider uninstalling what you have, then downloading the alternate installers found under the "Looking for Windows MSI installers?" on your V2 download page.
Well ! A bit confused by all the 'bells and whistles' that have been added and feel this is now a tool for designers rather than photographers. Disagree with me if you wish.
We're aiming to cater for all kinds of image manipulation workflows: photography, compositing, digital painting, 3D rendering, architecture, etc. Quite a lot of the new functionality has practical applications for photographers: luminosity, HSL and band pass masks for example, non-destructive RAW, JPEG-XL export (for HDR imagery), layer states, live mesh warp (for corrective purposes). Plus, now we have V2 out the door-which was a huge undertaking for us-we can now focus what comes next. Exciting times ahead...
@@JamesRitson Yes James I realise all that and there's no doubt that you have created a first rate piece of software but for a photographer like me and my workflow I feel it has become over complicated and doesn't make for a simple life. Perhaps it's because my demands are more limited, but I don't really have the time to invest in learning it all, especially when many of the items are somewhat esoteric.
@@davidgraeme-baker2612 I don't understand your point. It can be used as easily as before... you seem to be complaining that there are further options in an UPGRADE??? If this is too complicated for you and your "simple" workflow then why are you using Affinity, which is for advanced photo editing and manipulation?
why users who use affinity photo and pay for benunu should pay for the new version. I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous and you only think about money, I do not accept that. Instead of making money from updates, pray that your customers don't run away.
2 года назад
I didn't pay for the new version, what are you talking about?
What's the difference between a customer who pays once and then gets everything else for nothing and a customer who pays once and then refuses to buy an upgrade? There is no difference. If the company can't make money from upgrades, there is very little incentive to spend resources upgrading the product. An Adobe subscription will cost more in the long run than paying for periodic upgrades.
Some new features, OK that's fine. Not fine, not fine at all: They broke the Windows installation. V2 cannot not interact with other programs like Adobe Bridge or DxO. Installation is made to the inside of the APPS folder and is inaccessible to other programs. I've already de-registered and requested a refund. They also seemed to neglected mentioning the change amid all the hoopla. Windows has a place to install programs. It's the "Program" folder. Duh.
Yes, on the Affinity forums the developers have said it's up to DXO, StreamDeck etc to accommodate Serif. Disappointing and as it breaks my workflow I may have to, for the first time , ask for a refund :-(
i am glad i downloaded the trial,as i certainly wont be upgrading as it breaks my workflow between dxo pl6. terrible shame as i was looking forward to it.
@@shue2701 There is a Windows work-around originally posted by Walt.Farrell on the forum. 1) Create a new directory/folder with any name such as PhotoLaunch. 2) In the new folder, use a text editor to create batch file (.bat) 3) In the .bat file create/type start /b affinityphoto2.exe %1 exit 4)Save as a .bat file such as PhotoStart.bat. 5) Reference the .bat file from other programs such as Adobe Bridge to start Affinity Phot0 v2 Works for me. Shouldn't be this hard. A very bad on Serif You might think that they would want people to be able to access their program easily.
@@philcretired5143 Have you thought about creating a junction point instead? I find that this works for a lot of applications. Just create a junction point that acts as an alias for the actual program directory.
You must not buy much software. Most software companies will provide maintenance releases for free. They won't charge to move from version 1.0 to 1.1, 1.2, and so on. However, they will charge to upgrade to a major release such as going from version 1.0 or 1.1 to version 2.0. This is a fairly standard practice.

Anyone else missing the option to add customized settings in the develop persona? in AP 2 it is not possible anymore, which I find a bit strange.

That’s a no brainer for me.
@@nazsimons updating is a no brainer for me too. It's just that sale price is so tempting!
I like the new features but was hoping for a database similar to that used by Lightroom.
Also, when will Affinity add generative imagery features to these applications?
Love the normals adjustment layer. You have me sold on that point alone. Worth the upgrade for me. And I love the new layer changes and live masks. And the new license is really cool of you. I was worried about you going to a sub model but you did great guys!
i wonder if you had the previous version and how you upgraded. I can only find the page tht is for buying it first time. thanks for any suggestions.
pretty sure it was in v1
Your instructions for HDR Merge don’t jive with what’s on the screen. Says to state by pressing the “plus icon”. There is no plus icon 😐
How can I see a before/after review in Affinity Photo 2?
It seems I've followed RUclips tutorials 「how to add text to 360 photo /affinity photo tutorial」, but I still can't add text to 360 photos. Could you please advise where I might be going wrong? Thank you.
Where is the ML Super Reloution .. Where is the remove background automatic on peopels or products??
One thing that I wished that Affinity photo had was the camera calibration or something similar. I also wish that Affinity could fix where the actual software was installed, it seems that its install in the Windows Users folder which is odd to say the least when other software is stored in either Program Files or Program Files x86 folder
Wow! I'm impressed. I'll try it. Thank you
With V1 I was able to print using icc profiles but with V2 this no longer has an option for that. Can you explain why?
Is it still impossible to make massive photos editing?
We have to pay more money from version 1 full payed app ?
Yeah a bit like buying a car then having to pay for a new upgraded car... 😉
Can you please advise if Canon R5 raw files are supported to inport edit and save as jpeg ?
Theres no upgrade version for old customers. What a shame
The rename icon when you swipe left on the thumbnails has gone missing ? Why and how do i rename without it
is there any way you guys can make a video importing insta 360 x2 images for virtual tours
what i want to understand is , if i do and buy the software so i own it forever ?
Does someone know if I can make moving gifs in Affinity Photo 2?
Like if I open a bunch of jpeg/png timelaps photos as different layers and export them as a gif or something similar. I can't figure out how to do it despite the gif output option when I export my project and can't find anything about it in the manual. I really don't wanna switch to a different editor for this.
This is an amazing product 👍
Thank you very much James. I upgraded to v2 as soon as the new versions came out, and now I have finally some time to watch the features videos. The way Affinity is offering us three rock-solid alternatives to concurrent apps (at a stunning price!) is great.
Hi, thanks for serif, how can I type persian or arabic in affinity?
Is there a possibility to get that non destructive workflow for tone mapping persona? because that is a real needed feature
More evolutionary than revolutionary. A little underwhelming given the way Serif had hyped it. Still, a nice piece of software but for my purposes, probably not worth "upgrading". Thanks James.
Can we export the States (via export Persona)?
Can we import Photoshop layer comps now?
I just downloaded Affinity watched a few tutorials but struggling with the UI. I moved away from LR so moved in with a LR expectation.
Is there a way to use data color's color checker?
Does this software already has or plan to include AI driven tools?
Probably your antivirus confused it and sandoboxed it. Go to your antivirus settings and exclude the installer and/or the executable.
how can i save or export as jpeg?
On Windows, does the trial have to be installed to C:/ drive?
Does version 2 support GH6 RAW files?
Wish you could do mass RAW developing like capture raw :(
Do I need to upgrade from the first original Affinity photo? Other than that looks great!
Still no automatic update feature.. I would gladly pay the upgrade price if I could have fully automatic updates..
Нужна ли кому-то оф. программа Designer и Photo? Я не пользуюсь и ищу кому нужен полный пакет с ключами. Покупала ее еще до того как начались запреты на сотрудничество с Россией
Now if only the software could be available on Galaxy tablet and Linux (doesn't need to be FOSS).
Thank you. All very interesting. There are a couple of bugs and things I could do with Affinity 1 which cannot be done with Affinity 2 at the moment. All in all it is a great affordable photo editing software. I would like to know if I can make a circle or shape to a specified size. If anyone has any ideas how to do this I would be very grateful.
if you ctrl click on your canvas with a shape tool selected you get a settings box to specify sizes, so yes you can
Cool new stuff, but sadly, still no HEIF export.
How do remove a background?
Can anyone suggest me a good tutor of affinity photo 2, please help me
All I want to know is how to open an image in iPad photos app. They don’t show up anywhere!
With the removal of Separated Mode for the Mac, I'm out. Stuck using v1, with its flaws.
You don't have to pay for that upgrade though, the first Affinity will still be supported.
I was so hoping for more features in the develop persona. I am truly underwhelmed and disappointed.
I was also expecting to have the feature of right to left text added to the new version, but really disappointed
Good to be free from the Adobe subscription SCAM!😊
Wait so when you add layers - what are you actually edit not a raw image data?? Why not to do like LR - just constantly work with raw file 🤷🏻♂️ there is a reason why photography moved to LR and not PS
Still no DAM - but great value for the amateur photographer all the same.
Please give actions and quick 360 view
That voice .. is this guy Rick Astley relative ? I was expecting to hear Never Gonna Give You Up at the end of this video
❤❤❤
Is it just me? I don’t use Affinity in a way that I would benefit from this upgrade. I would have been happy with bigger tool icons..😂
why users who use affinity photo and pay for benunu should pay for the new version. I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous and you only think about money, I do not accept that. Instead of making money from updates, pray that your customers don't run away.
2) In the new folder, use a text editor to create batch file (.bat)
3) In the .bat file create/type
start /b affinityphoto2.exe %1
exit
4)Save as a .bat file such as PhotoStart.bat.
5) Reference the .bat file from other programs such as Adobe Bridge to start Affinity Phot0 v2
Works for me.
Shouldn't be this hard. A very bad on Serif You might think that they would want people to be able to access their program easily.
As Phil C has detailed the .bat solution works. I would rather have not been surprised by this but now the fix is known I'm OK.
@@philcretired5143 Have you thought about creating a junction point instead? I find that this works for a lot of applications. Just create a junction point that acts as an alias for the actual program directory.
🥳🎉
you really should do voice acting, you know that?
I have purchased v1, and now I have to pay for v2
No subscription?Shame on you
You must not buy much software. Most software companies will provide maintenance releases for free. They won't charge to move from version 1.0 to 1.1, 1.2, and so on. However, they will charge to upgrade to a major release such as going from version 1.0 or 1.1 to version 2.0. This is a fairly standard practice.
Nice, happy to pay an update fee. still way cheaper than photoshop
