Just so you don't think Dimash always uses a wide vocal range in every song he sings. It depends on the whether the song requires it. He has gorgeous songs where his delicacy and dynamics make a song in 2 or 2.5 octaves very special. Every performance from him is mind-blowing, the dynamic control that he has is incredible, his voice modulation is unreal, his vibrato is the definition of perfect vibrato, seamless transition between registers , again his classical head voice is insane, apart from head voice he has flageolet register, it's so hard to master this register but he is just another level vocalist, that mix Belting with runs and riffs, unreal breath control, passion, stage precense, attitude everything about him is phenomenal. #thebest

Glad that you picked up on the outstanding technique he employs, beginning at 5:52 of your reaction. You referred to this as a kind of 'yodelling'. This is a good description, but this technique is more precisely called a "vocal trill" - a note that alternates rapidly with another note a semitone above it. The distinctive feature of a "trill" is that each of the two notes is clearly distinguished from one another, as opposed to a vibrato that vacillates or 'flutters' in pitch slightly above or below a specifc note or tone. Vocal trills are sometimes used in classical (opera) singing, and also in Middle Eastern and Central Asian songs. The fact that Dimash is Kazakh may explain how he learned and mastered this skill. But what is truly exceptional about the 'trill' in "Sinful Passion" is not only the oscillation between the two notes, but the speed or frequency between the two notes, while keeping the pitch of each precisely on point. I'm no singer, but I'm told that the trill Dimash performs in this song is CRAZY HARD to master. Which probably explains why it is so rarely attempted - even the most skilled vocalists avoid it like the plague.

Dimash doesn’t always start slow and soft. Try Kieli Meken or durduras, both rock folk songs from his digital show. Very strong and upbeat. Or Samaltau From either his digital show or the Tokyo jazz festival.

Dimash is 6'3" actually :) The guy in the white shirt in the audience is the famous Russian composer, Igor Krutoy. He came out of retirement to work with Dimash. They are an incredible duo. They have done a number of Igor's songs like 'Love of Tired Swans' & 'Love is like a Dream', and Igor has composed songs especially for Dimash like: 'Ogni Pietra', 'Ave Maria', & 'Passione'. Anything that they have worked on together is music gold.

Glad that you picked up on the outstanding technique he employs, beginning at 5:52 of your reaction. You referred to this as a kind of 'yodelling'. This is a good description, but this technique is more precisely called a "vocal trill" - a note that alternates rapidly with another note a semitone above it. The distinctive feature of a "trill" is that each of the two notes is clearly distinguished from one another, as opposed to a vibrato that vacillates or 'flutters' in pitch slightly above or below a specifc note or tone. Vocal trills are sometimes used in classical (opera) singing, and also in Middle Eastern and Central Asian songs. The fact that Dimash is Kazakh may explain how he learned and mastered this skill. But what is truly exceptional about the 'trill' in "Sinful Passion" is not only the oscillation between the two notes, but the speed or frequency between the two notes, while keeping the pitch of each precisely on point.
