I purchased this after. Researching other bin types. Yes there are worm Yes there are compost bins. But I liked that this one drys while crunching up. I finally set it up. Because I didn’t know where to put it. So I started to put my food waste in. Hoping to add to garden instead of throwing food waste in trash can. Yes it’s pricey. But I see it as adding back to the plants. Instead of adding waste in landfills. It doesn’t smell. I’ve been using it for a few months now. I’ll see where this adventure leads me too. I see this as doing my part. ( may it be little. But it’s something ) if you don’t want to spend money. Use a different method. So far I love my mill.
This product sounds great, but after researching and reading the reviews, it creates organic matter ready to be composted or shipped back to mill for local chicken feed, transportation, and thus more carbon emissions to transfer some darn dehydrated food scraps. This organic matter that the mill creates still has to be composted at home before you can apply it to your plants or garden; if not, it'll mold or attract tons of flies. This product simplifies composting, not compost in itself. You can completely skip the 900 trash can and just throw your food scraps into your compost pile instead; you're going to have to do the same thing either way unless you're shipping it off to chickens or feeding your own chickens. In this case, this is a very useful product. 4.5 amps of electricity is like having another refrigerator.
Just found this after getting Mill ad on my phone, so here's my question: will it break down avocado pits? I normally keep produce clippings in a stainless steel bowl and take them to the chickens, but chickens are not interested in breaking down avocado seeds, also cherry pits and plum/peach pits will it handle them? I like to return from nature what came from nature, so I'd be interested in the limitations.

They say minimal liquids but I think if it’s just the steak or bacon that would be okay… just don’t go dumping the grease itself as the whole point it to shred and dry out the scraps!
This thing costs more than a composting toilet. I wonder if you can take a dump in it? My opinion: This is the dumbest must unnecessary tech since the Juicero.
Yet another ridiculously priced product made to allow rich people to feel good about themselves. In reality, these machines have no effect on anything but your wallet. Ironically, the production of these devices probably has a much greater carbon footprint than throwing your food scraps in the trash.
If you're looking to spend money, for a tenth that price you can get a Worm Factory bin set that has no subscriptions or ongoing costs like electricity, will last forever, and will be a ton more fun for the kids. And if you don't want to spend that much, just toss food scraps directly into the garden. Basic composting is better than nothing, doesn't have to be perfect. A $1000 device will probably never pay for its production carbon footprint, even if it were free!
I have a Worm Factory at home, but this Mill got my attention as my worms cannot deal with plate scrapings, any animal residue or even some lime or orange because is too acidic. So it feels like to me that this can take home composting to another level. I believe the compost generated by Mill cannot be used directly to fertilize plants, but maybe the worms can be fed with this compost despite it being meat or bones in the past. Does it make sense?

Also I love that I control the lock lid option (on my phone) if you have kids you don’t want them to open while running. Or open and throw other items away.

So, what if I use it for my worm bin? This way I am still making my own compost minus the gnats and flies. My main concern is the price.
Did you say, “eat compost”? I understand that you may be new to gardening but whoever told you to eat compost is not your friend.

How much energy does it consume monthly in the conposting process? Does it use heaters to dry up stuff or just fans?
4 amps for 18-20 hours a day with normal usage. You're absolutely not saving the planet with this heap.

As useless as it was, the Juicero was a very well-built machine. This. Not so much.
