4xOverland is the world's first global 4WD adventure off-road motoring channel. Established in 1996, it is hosted by well-known 4x4 writer, explorer and filmmaker, Andrew St Pierre White. AKA: ASPW.
I would say, Denver and Salt Lake City would be two major cities (more than 1 mil population in the metro area) that within an hour you could be in the middle of nowhere.
good to know.
I'd love to visit Colorado. Big TFL fan
Pretty much anywhere in the Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico region that is the case.
I’d also add Calgary, Alberta Canada to that list
@@4xoverland Andrew, an hour outside of New York City and you’re camping in the Hudson Valley. An hour and a half outside Los Angeles and you’re in Joshua Tree! Come back and visit!
More F150s and more F150 coverage please!
This must be a long series for yo to spend such brief time on each rig. I was hoping to see a little more detail and action with each vehicle. Possibly even your opinion on the pros and cons of each, and who you think each setup is best for.
On the Gazelle tent , I have it it’s great just note that in wind gusts over 35mph the panels (top and sides) will collapse . Just had 2 sleepless nights camping in Palm Springs desert.
Two words. Guy Lines 🙄
That tent! Nice! I've got a vaguely similar Coleman instant up pop up tent. I can't for the life of me figure out the Australian obsession with swags. I mean these pop up style tents pack up to a size and weight similar to a swag yet once set up (which takes 2 minutes), you end up with a bedroom, not a coffin!
I have the Gazelle T3, and absolutely love it!
It's a little smaller than the 4, so it packs better in my Wagoneer, but once set-up, is still incredibly roomy, and stable.
Thank you for another great video, Andrew, the EAU looks beautiful!
I wanted to see more of the f150 camper. 1hr drive from Las Vegas, NV you can be in beautiful mountains, by a lake or river.
You are always fun too watch!! I hope one day i get to own a defender 110. You made me fall in love with them since i started watching you, lol. You and your wife are amazing and beautiful people. Thank you for your adventures!!
Looks like a wonderful trip. I did notice a certain type of smile the only seems to show itself as the head gets pushed back from sudden acceleration of a V8. The neck muscles tense up to stop the head from flying off which pulls the mouth muscles into a smile about a millisecond before the brain tells you to smile.😊😮😁💪
Epic comment. You just made my day 😂
Nairobi.. within 10mins from the Central Business District you are in Nairobi National Park with the big 5 to boot.
That defender is gorgeous!
Love the silhouette shots of you and the trees. Very creative ASPW.
Great land rover 110 similar to my County 4bd1 turbo, these old timers are built to be modified and easy to repair. 😊😊
wow, I would like to test the F150 for 1 year. After my stroke I will go to Bulgaria (to the Black Sea) for a year, ideal for a long-term test
A Landrover breaking down, how unusual NOT!
Pity about the 110, I think we both have an appreciation for the simple, practical, utilitarian vehicle that pleases the eye, would you know off hand who made the camper on the rear of the 110? It's sleek lines and bay windows and girth make it a very attractive addition to the vehicle, mind you the rapter was impressive too, enjoyed the video. 👍🚙👌🇨🇮
Come to Utah and I’ll take you through the Wasatch mountains, Moab. San Rafael swell, canyonlands and more.
1.5 h from Staten Island going east from NYC, you are still in NYC courtesy of Belt Parkway.
That one is a Defender, and not a One Ten. The military ones came with the "Series" style doors. It's most likely ex Oman Military, as a lot of the older ones in the UAE are with the 2.5 petrol. I have a 1996 Defender out here, which still has those style doors and the military ran them all the way through on most of them like that.
we love u Faisal Bhai and Vishak. the backbone of UAE overland.
To be honest… the moment you showed the tent, I thought WOW … 😊
Enjoyed that...Best wishes from Wales 🏴
On today's episode: Land Rover is a few dishes short of a picnic, Andrew is smelly in a truck, and Gwynn wears Amish lingerie.
I love my Gazelle tent and, more important, so does the misses! And my 110 ;-)
Gorgeus !
Nice to see your in the uae avid 4x4 destroyers since 1986 and wildlife photographer too. big fan of your channel hope to bump in you offroad ps i hope you visit musandam and southern oman!
I would say Johannesburg (South Africa) and Pretoria (South Africa). JHB is about an hour from Dinokeng Nature Reserve (I know it is not the same thing but I am throwing ideas out there).
'Wild Camping within a hour and that is safe' are the criteria. Nowhere is South Africa is it safe to wild camp.
@@4xoverland I missed the safe part 😂
How apropos was it for the 110 to suffer an electric failure on the way to the drop off. Was it a lucas generator? Haha
Presumably they supply a fuel bowser to tow behind that Rapter?
🤣👍
The land-rover wolf had those door handles I think
Yes Perth Western Australia
thank you for video
The British make wonderful looking vehicles, they just need to be more dependable.
#LSConversion
That’s an old canard about British vehicles, before electrical upgrades (German) and reliable carburation. 😉
It's not just about improving dependability, they drive like a tractor and leave you exhausted afterwards. Terrible
Super
Awesome video ❤️
trying to see if this was commodification for the rental company or what it is.. Having lived in the middle east, none of those rigs have AC and generators and camping in that heat and humidity is a fail in most of the year
@4xoverland what's the camper on the ford?
Andrew, could you give us some detail on the tent? i’m here in Brisbane and looking for alternatives to the Oztent RV5 that has a similar set up time but perhaps a smaller footprint to get into the back of the ute. The near 2m length of the RV5 means it has to go on the roof rack and I saw you packing up this tent with both a horizontal then vertical fold which means presumably a smaller packed down foot print?
It's a Gazelle T4. I have one. It is an excellent tent. Packs up to around 67" in length (170cm), so it is still pretty long. Incredibly fast and roomy though. They do make a smaller one that is a three person and that is 57" long.
@@JimYeats thanks for that. Have now found the site and had a look at some youtube videos. Dunno if it has anything over the RV4 or 5 really. oztent materials more robust, frame better quality (more weight obviously) and a slightly longer footprint. The 4 overland model comes out to be about AUD 1,200 to the doorstep here in Australia so that is a pretty big chunk of change.
@@paulsenrichard Gotchya. I don’t the immediate exchange rate but I got my orange Gazelle T4 Overland for around $349 USD. The material and stitching is pretty good, certainly a fair step above typical tents. Not sure how much heavier I would want the material as it would become more difficult to toss around or throw up on the roof rack. With that said, I don’t have any experience with the Oztent, so I speak with a certain degree of ignorance.
@@paulsenrichard The gazelle has a lot lighter material than the original Oztent. It also breathes through the fly so no condensation on the inside. MUCH more usable room inside as well. I have mine in the UK and it is fine for the terrible weather here ;-)
@@ailo4x4 thanks and, yes, the useable room is central to my thinking now. I was worried to hear you are given a ground sheet for the overland version of the tent; suggesting that the tub built into the unit needs protection from the elements.
Phoenix, Arizona
Windhoek should one such city where within an hour's drive, you're out in the desert 😂
Be honest with us, you had an inkling it was a Land Rover as soon as you heard it had broken down.
Hopefully u will be able to drive the king of overlanders when in Az. I am sure Earthroamer will love have u
I have as much use for an Earthroamer as I do a plot of land on Christmas Island. Valuable but good only for showing off at parties.
The Earthroamer is good. If Andrew doesn't want to use one I'll take it for a trip
Andrew, yes ,you could be in the welsh mountains, within 1hr of landing in Cardiff city airport!😂
Grand Junction, Colorado
🤣 land rover that broke down. Unbelievable...
Greater Melbourne is a city of over 5 million and you can be in bush within an hour from its airport.
What brand was the tent?
Another CITY??? Nairobi.... With the big 5 included
Denver
Another city, Nairobi.
San Diego, 1 hour and your in the desert....Away from everyone
Leave Monrovia and within 45 mins you are bogged in mud and in the middle of a jungle 😂
If I was going to each rig justice in review I would do a 3 week adventure in each version, with pros and cons to each inclusion of both 4x4 version and 6x6 conversion of each vehicle..
There is really not enough to say to keep up 9 weeks of filming and 2 weeks editing for three cars. They are nice cars, but not that nice.
We look forward to your reviews.
@@4xoverland Me just reviewing it without physically seeing it in person
Unimog: regardless of age, single cabin style, 12'x8/7'x6'5" pending on overall weight 4x4 or 6x6 conversion and/or trailer to sleep in..
Rover: likely ex-military ambo with an extension 4' pending on its overall weight will dictate whether or not you need a 6x6 conversion or not, front to 6'5" height 6--8' width 8-12' length with walk through to drivers seat.. noting for reliability toyota conversion would be a must
f-150 - f650 whether it be a single cab or dual cab bed area on top of roof and living area towards the back..
My opinion:
rover with trailer setup for cooking support and food carriage is a chuck wagon layout for a tag along tour..
thus is why stuff was missing, platform in its current use stage really to short range...
f-150 looked more like storage bin layout to live out of not live within...
umimog: needs length to support shower/toilet, kitchen and and sleeping area either 2 single or 1 fold down queen enough to seat 4-6 for a meal comfortable
This seems to be ... and sounds like ... exactly the car for guys who need a shower at least every three days. :)
So, you have a camper, but there's not enough room to sleep in it, so you need a tent. Defeats the point of having a camper.
Fly into Calgary, Alberta,CANADA, drive to the Canadian Rockies in less than an hr. Ha,, you are driving around the dessert in the durable, reliable , unstoppable SVT Raptor,, and you are still trying to defend the broken down land rover. Have fun watch out for wild animals
Why do you want wind up windows when you can have sliding ones? Much better choice!
better for what? Sliders are a complete pain if you want to: open them, look out of them, operate them, clean them.
That Land Rover was let down by bad maintenance and inferior aftermarket parts fitted to it, but everyone loves to jump on Land rover when something breaks, like that never happens on any other vehicle.🙄🙄
1 hr from Ny city u will find camping
Not camping. Wild camping that is safe. I don't believe you.
All Ford's are way more superior to the toyota in every aspect but especially the ride. Even the base model Ranger's suspension is better than the most expensive cruiser.
Yes I too was once a toyota fanboy til I saw the light.
Are you comparing a ranger to a 76/69 cruiser or a 200/300 cruiser? Big difference in it's intended purpose.
@@perpelle I'm comparing a Ranger to the 70 series. All the 70 series 76, 78, 79 Etc. And well as the hilux. My great grandfathers ox wagon had a beter suspension.
@@mazambane286 70 series cannot be compared to a ranger.
It's two completely different vehicles.
The hilux though on the other hand can (but you didn't mention that in your first comment).
I drove both last year (not the new 2023 ranger because that isn't fair) and the difference was negligible. Unladen the ranger was a little bit better but it wasn't a deal breaker.
@@perpelle I don't know where you are? I live in Africa and I drive toyota's every day of my life and have been for over 44 years. All the companies I have worked for own fleets of them. Including the current one.
In 2019 I had the pleasure of driving a Ranger. I was so impressed that I bought one for myself. Now I dread having to go to work and be reduced to driving land cruiser's and hilux's.
@@perpelle The 70 series is a pick-up mate. No matter what body it attached to it the chassis and running gear are identical. So yes as a pick-up it's in the same class as any other pick-up.
Nobody likes to drive trucks. Rvs must be luxury not a truck drivers. Humppy jummpppy
Land rover are junk
