    That tent! Nice! I've got a vaguely similar Coleman instant up pop up tent. I can't for the life of me figure out the Australian obsession with swags. I mean these pop up style tents pack up to a size and weight similar to a swag yet once set up (which takes 2 minutes), you end up with a bedroom, not a coffin!

    That one is a Defender, and not a One Ten. The military ones came with the "Series" style doors. It's most likely ex Oman Military, as a lot of the older ones in the UAE are with the 2.5 petrol. I have a 1996 Defender out here, which still has those style doors and the military ran them all the way through on most of them like that.

  • @paulsenrichard
    @paulsenrichard Год назад +1

    Andrew, could you give us some detail on the tent? i’m here in Brisbane and looking for alternatives to the Oztent RV5 that has a similar set up time but perhaps a smaller footprint to get into the back of the ute. The near 2m length of the RV5 means it has to go on the roof rack and I saw you packing up this tent with both a horizontal then vertical fold which means presumably a smaller packed down foot print?

    • @JimYeats
      @JimYeats Год назад

      It's a Gazelle T4. I have one. It is an excellent tent. Packs up to around 67" in length (170cm), so it is still pretty long. Incredibly fast and roomy though. They do make a smaller one that is a three person and that is 57" long.

    • @paulsenrichard
      @paulsenrichard Год назад

      @@JimYeats thanks for that. Have now found the site and had a look at some youtube videos. Dunno if it has anything over the RV4 or 5 really. oztent materials more robust, frame better quality (more weight obviously) and a slightly longer footprint. The 4 overland model comes out to be about AUD 1,200 to the doorstep here in Australia so that is a pretty big chunk of change.

    • @JimYeats
      @JimYeats Год назад +1

      @@paulsenrichard Gotchya. I don’t the immediate exchange rate but I got my orange Gazelle T4 Overland for around $349 USD. The material and stitching is pretty good, certainly a fair step above typical tents. Not sure how much heavier I would want the material as it would become more difficult to toss around or throw up on the roof rack. With that said, I don’t have any experience with the Oztent, so I speak with a certain degree of ignorance.

    • @ailo4x4
      @ailo4x4 Год назад

      @@paulsenrichard The gazelle has a lot lighter material than the original Oztent. It also breathes through the fly so no condensation on the inside. MUCH more usable room inside as well. I have mine in the UK and it is fine for the terrible weather here ;-)

      @paulsenrichard Год назад

      @@ailo4x4 thanks and, yes, the useable room is central to my thinking now. I was worried to hear you are given a ground sheet for the overland version of the tent; suggesting that the tub built into the unit needs protection from the elements.

      Unimog: regardless of age, single cabin style, 12'x8/7'x6'5" pending on overall weight 4x4 or 6x6 conversion and/or trailer to sleep in..
      Rover: likely ex-military ambo with an extension 4' pending on its overall weight will dictate whether or not you need a 6x6 conversion or not, front to 6'5" height 6--8' width 8-12' length with walk through to drivers seat.. noting for reliability toyota conversion would be a must
      f-150 - f650 whether it be a single cab or dual cab bed area on top of roof and living area towards the back..
      My opinion:
      rover with trailer setup for cooking support and food carriage is a chuck wagon layout for a tag along tour..
      thus is why stuff was missing, platform in its current use stage really to short range...
      f-150 looked more like storage bin layout to live out of not live within...
      umimog: needs length to support shower/toilet, kitchen and and sleeping area either 2 single or 1 fold down queen enough to seat 4-6 for a meal comfortable
