Thank you for sharing your knoledge, works perfect for me, just 2 questions, 1: when you link together this pieces, does the physicals looses their properties? and 2: for animated doors, it follows the same criteria as old prim building or has to be linked by other way? Once again thank you for sharing, and i look forward for your comments. Cheers!
for question 1 they keep there properties but the properties of all other peaces are added as a hole. Question 2 it does follow the criteria of prim buildings in the ways of when linked the center of the main prim is the pivot point.
You explained everything great, but ran into an issue building a house myself. I designed it based off your method but when I completed the house. The measurements I used on doorways and everything did not translate after uploading. The doors are too small to enter and whatnot. How do I base measurements and sizes when creating such structures?
+Sweet Eddie You can always mock up a build in prim then use the prim measurements, or an actual blue print made by a professional. Remember SL uses meters not feet and inches, so if it is easier, you can just use meters in Sketchup and not have to do a conversion.
I loved the tutorial , you explained all well and good , exsept that im encountering a problem , at 2:47 when you re added a work plane it got on the top of the image , when i add a work plane it gets bellow the image an its extreme hard to pull it up perfectly , and idea how can i fix that ? Thanks
+iwantyou4life you will need to add the work plain to center point than click your 2 your 2 points. like in the first time I went from the center point, you simply repeat what you did the first time.
+YOYO Crescendo i do it and it still does the same only way to avoid that is to put an image as the texture .well at last its working that way .. thank you for the reply have a great day
this is an old comment but i thought id share for anyone who would like to create custom blueprints! www.homestyler.com/ lets you design them and it's very easy to use.
+YOYO Crescendo Thanks! I went into sheer panic mode... such great tutorials and I thought I was missing one... whew! You have made the approach to mesh building not near as scary. Thank you so much!!!

Can you explain why you went into blender before the final exporting into Second Life?
Because ketchup makes a new mesh component for every material. So i hit ctrl J in blender to make it 1 peace and not a bunch.

i installed all and dont see a work plane icon.... HELP!
When I upload any mesh building (even a hollow cube with a door) SL treats it as a solid object and I can't walk inside it.
you need to go to features and change the physical shape type from convexhul to prim :D
Thanks for the fast reply! Which menu is this in?
rightclick your mesh in sl and click edit, than go to features physical shape type than change to prim.
Grand! Much appreciated!
Do you have to texture the mesh in blender or can you create a PNG texture in PS and put it on the mesh in SL?
Kimber Maietta you can add it in sl as long as its mapped correctly
Thanks!
Where is the video for Tutorial 1? A house? All I see is a skating rink video.
+Billy Weaver I was building the house before I started making vids. it is a very long process at sum point I may make vids on the hole process.
