I'm from the UK and growing up, my sister (whos dad is black) never had many fellow British role models to identify with. She used to hate her natural hair and being the odd one out. But as soon as she saw Scary Spice she had someone to identify with. Suddenly the hair she hated become something everyone wanted. Kids need this kind of thing.

Colorism has been so much of a downfall for dark skinned women who are really talented people who just want their time to be able to show that things can be done! However, these people often feel like it's very ugly to be your best & even though you are beautiful in your own unique way it's often hard to show your true self identity! Mis-Teeq weren't really in the same league as S Club 7 and the Spice Girls (the latter didn't release much after 2000 anyway), they rode more on the UK garage scene of the early 2000s alongside So Solid Crew and Ms Dynamite etc. I remember the subject of Zena leaving was quite touchy for a while - in interviews the trio would say "She just left" and refuse to be drawn on it. After the second album they went quiet for a while then the split did seem a bit sudden. Almost surprised the lawsuit from Sabrina didn't arrive sooner. In other news, I was once on an identity parade on Britain's Got Talent and I'm pretty sure Alesha doesn't actually need a microphone - to her credit, the girl is loud!

Alicia was the best singer in that group live. Period! Look up a live performance of it, Alicia really carried that group. Sorry, not sorry.

Like Kelly Rowland in Destiny's Child, or JC Chasez in Nsync, or Faye Tozer in Steps, or Rachel and Jon in S Club, or Liz in Atomic Kitten, or Gary Barlow in the first iteration of Take That. They're really consistent vocalists who are integral to the band's sound and the success of the songs, but they get outshone by their more extroverted and exciting counterparts - Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Claire, Jo (and Bradley), Natasha, and Robbie Williams respectively. Sabrina is an good vocalist with a very sweet voice and great control, but Alesha's got a bit more grit and punch in her voice - plus her rapping was incredible. Every band NEEDS a Sabrina to anchor the group, but a Sabrina on their own often ends up feeling a bit lost, because audiences are always waiting for the Alesha to come in and amp up the song. I think Sabrina's solo career would have always been less successful than Alesha's even if both had been light-skinned, just as Kelly has been less successful than Beyoncé and so on, but I still think it's terrible how she was discriminated against for being more black.
This is proof that there are so many groups out there that you can't hear it all. Don't remember these gis in the US. Maybe we should play more Brit Groups here.
Thanks so much for doing this! If she had been in the US, Sabrina would have had a great solo career. The UK blocks black music artists anyway, and is very racist towards dark skinned black women. Ones who do get through are half as big -or less- than they should be. A lot of black and bi-racial female artists spoke out about racism in the UK music industry in 2020 during the pandemic.

I stand by what I said knowing they could never be TLC nor do I think they would want to be. The rapper in this group reminded me of left eye as far as her rapping in the scandalous song.
@@erichicks8698 They seem more comparable to Destiny's Child even tho there's a rapper in the group. Personally Mis-Teeq is just another girl group who had cute songs but nothing really stood out about them.

Alicia was the best singer in that group live. Period! On their biggest hit, "So Scandalous", that's Alicia who hits that top belt at the crescendo, but they played her in the vid to make it look like Sabrina still. Look up a live performance of it, Alicia really carried that group. Sorry, not sorry.

@@blackheartbev3098 I think the thing is that Sabrina filled the role in the band that so many really good, but less explosive vocalists end up in. Like Kelly Rowland in Destiny's Child, or JC Chasez in Nsync, or Faye Tozer in Steps, or Rachel and Jon in S Club, or Liz in Atomic Kitten, or Gary Barlow in the first iteration of Take That. They're really consistent vocalists who are integral to the band's sound and the success of the songs, but they get outshone by their more extroverted and exciting counterparts - Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Claire, Jo (and Bradley), Natasha, and Robbie Williams respectively.
Sabrina is an good vocalist with a very sweet voice and great control, but Alesha's got a bit more grit and punch in her voice - plus her rapping was incredible.
Every band NEEDS a Sabrina to anchor the group, but a Sabrina on their own often ends up feeling a bit lost, because audiences are always waiting for the Alesha to come in and amp up the song. I think Sabrina's solo career would have always been less successful than Alesha's even if both had been light-skinned, just as Kelly has been less successful than Beyoncé and so on, but I still think it's terrible how she was discriminated against for being more black.
This is proof that there are so many groups out there that you can't hear it all. Don't remember these gis in the US. Maybe we should play more Brit Groups here.

If she had been in the US, Sabrina would have had a great solo career. The UK blocks black music artists anyway, and is very racist towards dark skinned black women. Ones who do get through are half as big -or less- than they should be.
A lot of black and bi-racial female artists spoke out about racism in the UK music industry in 2020 during the pandemic.

Cant Get It Back was a song by Blaque, but originally done by Misteeq. Actually, maybe it was the other way round but they both did the song.
@@TheLongdarktunnel Blaque had the song first but when they got dropped by their label somehow Mis-teeq got the song I prefer Blaques version because it was more soulful and had sass to it the Mis-teeq version of the song sounds like a karaoke version
