Thank you for this! St. Louis native, here, and let me tell you, we all were rooting for Toya, back in the day. She had billboards all over the city and on both sides of the water (STL and ESTL). Her album was dope, but hard to find. I remember asking one of my upper classmates to hold a CD for me, when he worked at Walmart. I was so disappointed that the album didn't get the push that it deserved, and waited patiently for its follow up. The remix to I Do! with Murphy Lee was a banger! Other possible singles could have been Moving On, What Else Could I Do?, I Messed Up, Book of Love and/or possibly Fiasco ft. T.I. She had a strong voice and her own swag (especially for her being so young). Lol. She even had a mini dictionary to break down her Midwest lingo in her CD booklet (for all of the non-St Louisans). To this day, I still bump her CD, especially after washing and waxing the car. Check out I Do Pt. 2.

Yeah I really thought she was going to take off all she needed was a collabo with a popping artist from that time and she was going to be in. That was the early 2000 formula be on a hot track with the rapper and then do your own song or vice versa

They rarely played "I Do" on the radio, but the second single "No Matter What" got played a lot on the pop stations so im surprised it didn't chart higher than it did. but i'm sure la reid had something to do with that too. her album was actually pretty good but to be honest there were better songs on the album that could've been singles over "I Do".

Thank you for this. Being from St. Louis, I had no clue what truly happened to Toya. I chunked it up, like it’s several artists that come from STL & yet have a short span in the industry. Toya, being a native- probably pushed hard in the beginning cause she knew that history, coupled with her work ethic as well. It’s good to hear the update on her. May she keep God first & He will continue to direct her path. 🥰

I never knew this was why her music career never took off but I am happy that she grew her family and is living a better life. I miss her.
