This LP is one of his real masterpieces.
Even the 'Bad' ones were bery good. I got to meet him in about 1968. I was a thrill!
I will always cherish the memory of the one time I saw Doc and Merle in concert: at Van Wezel Hall in Sarasota, FL, in 1977. Some wannabe good old boys were up in the balcony making a racket, and Doc smiled, turned his sightless eyes in their direction, and said, "Now you boys up there settle down. I remember my first beer too." Silence prevailed instantly!
Thanks for that, I can just see it .
Here’s a true story. Ralph Stanley looked at that photo of Doc and said: “Look here, Doc is trying to look like Abe Lincoln.”
I resisted the urge to tell him that Doc most likely didn’t know how Lincoln looked or for that matter how Doc looked.
Ha ha that is funny , bit like George bush waved at stevie wonder 😅
On the album cover of "Square Deal in Nashville" Doc is holding a hand of poker cards as if he were reading them, and on the cover of "Docabilly" he is driving the convertible.
I have loved Doc Watson forever. Saw him once in concert. Wish I could have seen him more.
Be happy with having had the pleasure of seeing him. Something I'll never get.
@@jeffersongaragecustoms6431 Amen to That, One of My All Time Favorites. Grew Up on Bluegrass and Such. I Know it’s Not For Everyone But To Me It Brings Back Memories I Cherish.
Must’ve been incredible
I specifically found a vinyl copy of this album the last time this album came down off youtube. i cannot live without it! Doc's interpretation of these classic songs give me goosebumps on EVERY listen. spread the love.
this was my intro to Doc in the 70's - what a flawless masterpiece
I'm just getting into playing some real Bluegrass these days and Doc Watson is right up my street, genuine and authentic and talented. He's exactly what I've been looking for. He's an inspiration to folk like me who are just finding out about the genuine Bluegrass tradition. Love it! 🤓🏴👍🎶🎸
Doc is the best!!
How can anyone dislike this 😡
I'd say the greatest covers album ever recorded, though most are uncredited and just old classic folk songs.
Amazing album.
The best Doc Watson album of all. I played the crap out of it.
Agree, did the same ... , although his "On Stage" album matches this ...
A favorite since I first heard it, learned Peartree as quick as my feeble fingers could, and still play it today, less feebly.
the great doc watson
Beautiful man and magic music..
I saw him in Eureka Springs, Arkansas a few years ago. One of the best acoustic players I've ever heard.
My favorite Doc album! Bought this years ago and lost it, had to pay like $20+ on amazon to find another copy. WORTH IT. Its still in my CD player :)
A genuine master of his trade and and inspiration to many others who followed behind him. I never get tired of listening to him and every single day I find more and more of the wonderful music he has left us to enjoy and remember him by. RUclips you're brilliant.
doc was truly an american treasure the definition of a flatpicker and naster of guitar there wil never be another like him rip to a true american hero
Born in Alabama in 1962. This music takes me back to a different time
Inspirational music from the finest to record it. For the rest of time he will be heard, hundreds of years from now. Job done Doc.. ♥️
ドクも息子も死んじまったが、音楽は永遠に残るのーーーー。オイラはアマチュアのシンガーだが、自らが歌い続けることで、現世に足跡を残そう。
Doc Watson does it all...his talent is truly amazing and I really love his voice!!!
This best album! My favorite

My gosh dang heart, Doc rips
OMFG! Thank you for posting this record - it's been down for so long, and super expensive to buy on CD. This is the best Doc record. His version of "My Rose of Old Kentucky" is one my favorite. Thanks again!
Bill Sikes
So many of the versions on here are the best ones I've heard by Doc. The band is also so, so good. It's a fabulous album. I havena heard quite all of his albums, but it's the best of all that I have head, and own.
God Almighty should not be mocked!
Great album of Doc's I picked up in the early 80,s. Sadly, I've no record player these days so this is a great discovery for me. There are too many superb tracks for me to mention any in particular. I'm so glad ti find this.

why does moody river cut out so soon?
Please enjoy!
He looks like Abraham Lincoln
💪👍
Just my take but I always preferred Doc Watson's cover of "Moody River" over Pat Boone's. Not to decry Pat's version, however.
Once Doc covered a song it became his, my friend.
OMG...Pat Boone Is so white bread!!! no musical substance.
🎼🎼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🖖🏼
Does anyone know the name of a Doc Watson song that has lyrics “ I’m not the doctor but the doctors son, but I’ll cure your ills till the doctor comes”. Or something close to that. Thanks.
How long blues
What is the relationship between Wabash Cannonball and Woody Guthrie's Farmer Labor Train?
Wabash Cannonball is the original, far as I can find. Woody Guthrie was, as per Pete Seeger, really good at taking a tune and putting new words in them. Even his most famous song "This Land is Your Land" is based on the music of "Little Darling, Pal of Mine", changed just a bit. Of course, this is not to diminish Woody any. Frankly, his renditions often improved upon the originals.
thx someone stole me my disc
I like Doc, but this isn't one of his best albums.
