    Hi Bex I got the new style smock and the fleece and think they are really good pieces of kit...I paid a lot more than 15 quid for them lol but most army surplus stuff is really going up in price lately.

    Hi Bex. Thank you for your videos. I enjoy watching them a lot. Just bought the new version of the softie from an army surplus in Exeter, brand new for £50, trousers £15 and the upper layer for £35. It's definitely a good buy and very comfortable and warm, even just wearing a t-shirt underneath.

    Very good ideas. I have the American Army equivalent called a " bear suit ", also made of fleece. I think I will take it with me in the cold months. Would definitely add R value to my small emergency 3 season survival sleeping bag. Thank you very much

    Hi, the new fleeces are great especially the longer back!
    I’ve just converted to the New Poseidon Jet up at Lossie and picked up my new softee, the Aircrew versions, slight differences, jacket full Zip trousers have slightly bigger pocket as they are more fire retardent. Being almost 50 and don’t own a PlayStation ive been out and tested the kit as I’m not someone who leaves it till last minute. The new flying boots are great too. Get in touch and I’ll get a pair down to you as don’t think they’ll hit the shops for a while yet.

    i've sold a lot of these, both new issue PCS and the older reversible softie suits,
    The older ones are slightly warmer but the new ones are designed to allow a degree of activity
    while wearing them. (The older ones are best for static situations)
    Currently i have a older set, and keep meaning to buy some new trousers before the surplus market dries up.
    btw ... the latest issue PCS thermal have a front zip ;-)

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  5 лет назад

      Totally agree, the old style with at a static camp, and the new ones great to mix the layer system, gone from using as level 3 to level 6, for a winter hike. With the old style having more room, may consider pairing both sets as a sleep system, if I can get them to vent, the zips should allow for that I think, and lighter than a 3-4 doss bag. Add gortex rain covers and you got your self a bivvyless ground system...Bex

    Prefer the softie, there has been a lot of complaints about the poor sizing of the new pcs kit and the smock catches on clothing when you take it off.

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  5 лет назад

      Sizing is MK1 level 6-7,
      MK2 level 4-5.
      You can always buy over size, to correct, same as any other flawed kit sizing, hence the pricing....
      My MK1 softies drown me, and I'm a broad bloke...Lol
      (fix is) over size the Mk2 until they fit as level 4. Try both sets together instead of a bag system, good to about Zero C, not tested both sets lower than that (yet)...B

      I have both the smock and the jacket new PCS and you are not wrong about the sizing, the smock is made very strange IMO it fits in some places but to tight in others, if you size up the whole thing does not fit, the pants are the same if you are around 104/170 NATO the top is a struggle to get a good fit

      If I am understanding you correctly you are referring to the long john set in tan. I still have mine, and the pant section is a tight fit and do keep my legs warm in the colder months. However I chose to opt for a baggier long sleeve top section, fit because it it lovey and cool to walk in, yet warm when stationary, and will apply my second tan fleece over it. A third layer will be the PCS smock, was warm in one video I did like this at minus 3C I think it was.
      Prior to the tan set of base layers we had the micro fleece set in brown and although warm was sweaty and too uncomfortable, and recall the pant section was too low cut on the hip, so had constant builders crack, and the top section rides up. Generally the the sizing on the tan set are pretty accurate to your regular fit....
      See if this video of mine sheds a better light

    Good kit those softies I have an expensive lightweight down jacket for the cooler nights but I’ve found myself grabbing the softie way more often. Haven’t managed to get the trousers yet. The old style softie trousers are made quite large and the new style softie jacket is made on the small side that’s my only complaint.

  • @davidlindley6454
    @davidlindley6454 3 года назад +1

    The PCS smock is a poor copy of a proper Buffalo. The hand warmer pocket is only half lined and the arm vents don't have baffles so you feel the cold of the zips. The one I have is made by Highlander and is very poorly made. The fleece/pile/pertex concept is excellent but the PCS smock could and should be better.

      Agreed. One is less than 20 quid and the other is over 90 quid, your gonna get what you pay for. • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  4 года назад

      They are true to size. Most squaddies (serving soldiers) get theirs a size or two larger to make a slight loose fit. I buy to the correct size, and often put it on straight over my bare skin for sleeping, or over a T shirt if hiking, and I need to remove it...
      Just acquired a couple of the newer style winter Norgie, (the under fleece) and far better than the one in this feature, more of a velvet than a fleece. Most squaddies still prefer the original green softie suit (the predecessor) designed to be a baggy level 7 outer layer.....bex
