Hanahaki Disease is a fictional disease in which the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. It ends when the beloved returns their feelings (romantic love only; strong friendship is not enough), or when the victim dies.
If left untreated, the victim will continue to vomit more flowers, leading to further weakening of the body. Without timely intervention, the victim may die within a short period, ranging from weeks to months.

I think the hanahaki gives Ashfur a more understandable motive than him simply wanting Squirellflight to himself. He's in a life-or-death situation where he has to force Squirellflight to be with him cuz otherwise this disease would continue to take over him.

@plagueofmoths Ik how aus work. I thought the animation implied that he still got killed by Hollyleaf, and then the flower grew out of the wound where she killed him.
