Head gasket just bought one with the same problem, replaced water pump, radiator, thermostat and bypassed heater core. It could idle for an hour before the gauge would spike out of nowhere and piss out all the coolant.

Mine has the same issue when I bought it then found oil in the intake manifold cleaned that out stopped the white smoke...then started overheating and leaking coolant from the rear of the motor...started tearing into it to replace the head gasket found my coolant bypass hose had a split in it so fingers crossed.

@@tystick22I had no issue with smoke or anything. I’d be able to drive it for about 30 mins then it would blow the cap off the expansion tank and coolant pour out. Did the combustion leak test and confirmed that combustion gasses were getting into the coolant.Bit the bullet and had both heads resurfaced and gone through.

What diagnostic tool did you use ? IID?
Let somebody who knows what they’re doing service it (and the others in your LR graveyard!).
