Despite being so insanely powerful he is paranoid that there 100% are other players in the world that could show up at any time to kill him and/or destroy the tomb so he is constantly on guard and moves slowly to smoke them out if they are hiding. He also wants to spread the name of the guild everywhere in the hope that his old friends are somewhere in this world as well. Anis built his character in the game for roleplaying not combat so he is not min-maxed and could be taken out by a player that is combat focused or who has hard counters to his build so he is always on the lookout for way to boost the strength of himself and the other beings in this world as the rules of the game do not apply in the same way or at all. While being an absolute ruler in the eyes of all the other NPCs Anis is still just a guy who worked in a dead-end job and does not really have the skills or mindset to run the tomb correctly but he wants to try in the event that his old friends show up so that he can stand proudly before them having not destroyed all their hard work.
For Ainz, his guild and his friends are his everything. Entering his Guild for the sake of looting was already crossing his line. Then they said they got "permission". It gave Ainz a false hope that a friend of his was somewhere out there. So when he realized that they were just using his comrades' name for a lie, well... he got really mad to the point that his emotional supressions were repeatedly trying to calm him down.
In fact, Anize has given them two chances. He warned them before they set out into the Great Tomb. If they were willing to listen to the advice at this time, they would not be killed if they went back. The second time was the treasure at the entrance to the Great Tomb. If they took the treasures and turned back now, they still wouldn't be killed. But they were greedy and wanted to keep going. So although it is not good to say this, in fact it is their greed that harms themselves.
If they stole the treasure at the entrance, they would have been killed. You've seen what Ains think of thieves. What makes you think he'd be fine with them stealing from him even a little? "But they were greedy," you say? If they steal even a single gold piece, they are greedy already. If you think he'd place chests of gold pieces for intruders to take, then I have to ask you the same question Ains always ask his subordinates making a proposition. How would that benefit Nazarick? No. Those treasures at the entrance were put there as a test to see whether they are thieves or visitors. That's why there's a guild banner and gold. Show respect to the banner of the house you're visiting and don't steal their stuff. That's the basic courtesy of a visitor. And to answer the question. Doing this does benefit Nazarick because Ains already said he doesn't want to kill those who don't disrespect Nazarick. Testing their morals before they are faced with Nazarick's defenses is required to know that they are respectful visitors before killing them. (Since he's building a nation, there might be genuine visitors who come unannounced in the future and that wouldn't be good if they were killed just for trying to visit.)
0:50 I'd bear in mind that the bugs when they eat the humans, they get healed and then eaten again. It's the punishment they gave to Hilma, one of the 8 Fingers, to make her obedient and help them take out the rest of the 8 Fingers. Sounds worse to get eaten alive multiple times imo. The head bug is also who albedo, shalltear and aura were referencing when they were on their day off earlier in the season (when they said they knew he was loyal but didn't like him bc his bugs get all over them and in their clothes).
By the way the Lesser Strength spell is not a debuff, it's a buff so you cast it on your ally. It's the lesser version of the Strength spell, so lower level mages can cast it. It's in D&D as well, probably where it's originated.
It is in fact the origin, or at least, where Maruyama got it from. This is because Maruyama only started writing Overlord when his friend group was too busy to play D&D 3.5 with him. So there’s a lot of parallels between the two.
I loved just how much of a shock that this episode was! Up until now we were believing just how likeable that Ainz and the guardians were. Then we got smacked in the face by just how utterly ruthless that they were.
Ainz does have weaknesses, he is weak against holy and fire magic, blunt and strike attacks. To be vague and avoid potential spoilers, because of his classes and masteries, he has magical nullification for spells tier 5 and below, and these humans aren't even level 30, while Ainz is level 100, so they can't harm him at all. Compare it to an mmorpg where monster often barely deal damage when you are 20 levels higher than them, but ainz is more than 70 levels higher than these guys. Ainz's plan was to see if he could use that collar to learn the warrior class like hes doing to the lizardmen and Hamusuke, so he fought them to see if he could get experience despite his opponents being such low level ones. Also, we all feel bad for the characters that meet their end, but Ainz and his people are so cool we still on their side. Now, if you want to feel even worse, of this 4, the couple were tortured and then sent to be a cockroach nest, they were together there, they were able to keep their sanity for a while because they were together, but the guy died first and the half-elf had to watch him there rotting away. Rubberdick, i mean, Roberdyck, was tortured and had his memory manipulated to believe in different things, he ended up worshipping a rock, can't remember if he died or not, but i believe he kept his powers despite worshipping a rock instead of a deity. Arche was very very lucky, she got a mercy death, meaning Shalltear killed her (oh but don't worry, they didn't let her body go to waste, they used every bit they could, but at least she didn't become a living nest). Her little sisters in the other hand, yeah, as you can imagine, they were later collected as part of the pay for the debt of their parents, and i'll avoid going into details, but they were worked to death as slaves just like Tsuare, but they didn't find a savior.
I think Arche's sisters died as labor slaves, and they died of exhaustion rather than being disposed of while dying. The similarity between their fate and what Tsuare's would have been without Sebas begins at slavery and ends at death, none of the particulars were the same. Not that that makes it any better.
😂 Bro Ainz/Momonga himself was pissed, that's why he said to all guardians to shut their ears so he can complaining but don't want everyone turn over to Demiurge, Demiurge's plan to make Ainz Ooal Gown Conquer the world isn't over. The real bad guy isn't appearing yet. 💀
Overlord is quite different from other isekais as it mostly shows the PoV of the people living in this world against a powerful godlike existence like the members of Nazarick. Nazarick are the villains in this new world, that is pretty much how it was established from the start if we are looking at it through the eyes of the original people living in this new world. Except for the select few like the villagers of Carne Village. This won't be tackled in the anime any longer but the sisters are sold and became slaves, later on they died from overworking.
The thing I love about this show is how it makes you feel multiple things. You can both like Nazarick and still feel bad for their victims. Season 2's lizardman arc was a peak example of this. And it turned out pretty good for the lizardmen in the end because they showed something that affected members of Nazarick.
Gashokukochuuou, the NPC that Ainz ordered to bring Hekkeran and Imina to, uses human as his house. Nothing more is known about him, except that he is perhaps the most hideous look-wise in Nazarick, even worse than Neuronist and Kyouhukou. His name, which can be literally translated to "hungry fox (?) insect king", suggests that he's a parasitic insect.
Hio "why an anoncer with no audience" if i remember correctly the colosseun seats where FULL with golems (one of the workers was thinking that gives kind of a sad/lonely vibe)
If yall think thats horrible, just know that the blond casters little sisters were sold off because of greed from the family and died a couple months after because of overuse... Basically they got smashed to death... keep that in mind, overlord gets dark, real dark, the anime is so light compared to the novel that it makes it seem like heaven.
The workers did invade the real Nazarik. The tomb has a lot of automatic defenses and spawns monsters but unfortunately these cost gold to keep active so Ainz wanted to find a better and more efficient plan of defense which he delegated to Albedo. The hight tier skeleton squad and the traps active during the invasion were the defense plan in action, just the minimum number of active spawns that can deal with invaders while separating them to deal with them in small groups by the guardians. So now that Nazarik has a defense plan in action Ainz can go public to the world.
The party of 4 can’t make any damage to Ainz since he’s at level 100 and they are basically level +30. He’s not even serious with them. Also, if you didn’t remark, Entomas (=the spider maid) got Arche’s voice as a present. Robberdyck was experiment by Nazarick: in the book, he became crazy and revered a rock as a god. Arche sisters will be sell as slaves (= sex slaves) by the parents. They died of exhaustion.
The twin sisters of the dead girl suffered a cruel fate after this. Their parents soon sell them into slavery and they undergo similar treatment to what tuare received, only there was no sebas to save them
Kind of a missed opportunity on Ainz's part mainly because slightly altering Demiurges plan didn't cross his mind at the time. Well if Albedo had her vision connected to the girl with the unique eye's she probably would have screamed "Cool!" at the sight of Ainz's power with his ring removed. Well if Ainz had brought her under his wing he could've used her eyes to single out Magic Users born within the humans and than use scrolls to appraise what they could do instead of guessing at random and wasting resources.
Ains lost his humanity by becoming an undead. He still remembers his past human morality, but he doesn't feel it or driven by it anymore. This is what makes this story different from majority of other isekai like Slime etc.: it isn't the usual power trip for simple minded people, but instead tries to explore the isekai premise more seriously.
5:04 The spell isn't meant to lower Ainz strength, it is a buff for the dual wielder. The "lesser" part is indicative of a lower tier spell, this is probably a nod to D&D naming convention for similar effect with gradually more powerful potency that have "lesser" "normal" and "greater" version although in D&D it is mostly used for object and not for spells.
The thing to remember about Ainz personality is two fold, first the human he was before was very pragmatic, aka I'll help you if it benefits me or if you gave me help in some capacity before and the reverse for people insult or impede the progress of his goals. And secondly his undead status has made humans less than npcs in his eyes afterall you don't feel bad when a low level monster in a video game attacks you, you slay it, go 'ooh loot' and continue on your merry way. Same mindset, especially for those he doesn't consider 'named npcs' like these workers.
This was such a fun reaction to watch. But yeah, the reason Ainz had a fight with this group was because he already dueled all the other workers but anime skipped it, this was the last remaining group, and well Ainz is really trying to improve his warrior skills and what is better than a whole group of perfect teammate that are nearly equal to your warrior stats.(Ainz without perfect warrior is equal to level 30 warriors since he doesn`t have any SKILLs and only physical attributes)
In the webnovel Arche survives and becomes a servant of Ains under Shalltear, her sister get protection in Nazarick. In the LN the sisters get sold into slavery and get big R'ed till dying from it.
15:13 . This remind me of the undertale Genocide vs Deltarune Ice grave discussion.(spoiler ahead) in Undertale you can do an Genocide on an entire Species, brutally killing multiple innocent and then destroy the world. In Deltarune you break the spirit of a girl until you can turn her against her friend and put him in ice (heavily implying that it killed the friend). And even though the scale is sooo different, there are many crazy people who think the Deltarune one is worse than total Genocide xD
"there is no hope in this world" there is hope and there is a hero .... but its not what you think and yes things will only get alot worse from here on out massively worse and yes you will see a butt ton of new characters all the time so better get used to it
Oh my. Did you guys just realised that you were following the villains? Was the fact that Ainz is a Lich with an army of demons and monsters or that the show's title "Overlord" wasn't enough of clue of what they are or what the show is about?
10:40 this is the point that albedo sees that ains love for his friends is a hindrance that makes himself vulnerable to danger so she creates a team to go out and hunt down any players even if they are ains old friends to keep him safe the team includes the younger sister rubedo the strongest npc in nazarick this isnt shown in the anime so its not a spoiler
Are you serious? You think they were in the fake Nazarick? You literally saw them outside Nazarick before they started towards their doom. You've also seen Aura building the fake Nazarick which looks nothing like the real Nazarick. You've seen the outside of the real Nazarick in the very first few episodes when Mare was building hills around it to conceal it. Are you okay man?
If you feel sad or conflict about it in this episode meaning the author indeed success delivering the story. The meaning of this eps, specifically this. To make a point that we are not really a good guy. The choices Ainz made that feels like a good thing you will realize it has it's own benefit for him "Ainz" even if it's so small. So for saving the thieve that clearly not benefitting Ainz it's out of the question. If you want Ainz to be good, be sure you have something that he see will benefit him. The other one, respect him and his comrade. And the last one be a man that Ainz respect somehow like Gazef.
[ FUN TRIVIA ] Did you know that among the worker group, Foresight, the only one who died among them is just Arche? Yes, you read that right. After losing the fight against Ainz, her comrades were then turned into a rag doll-like state by the spell [ Paralysis ], therefore making them incapable of doing anything. With a hope that she could escape from Ainz through the use of [ Fly ], she later found herself in despair as Shalltear tells her that they're still Underground and that she will die there. Of course, she was killed painlessly as Ainz ordered. Her arms are used by something called "Deadman Struggle". A part of her skin was requested by Demiurge. Her head was given to a Silk hat demon. Her vocal cords were eaten by a Lip bug for Entoma's use. And the rest, was used as a fodder for Grant's children. While she's now dead, her comrades are still alive, but of course, they're in an invulnerable state, with Hekkeran and Imina turned into Gashokukochouu's "nest" and with Roberdyck being mentally corrupted as several experiments were done into him.
Ains treats humans as animals just as we treat animals in the real world, we experiment on animals, we eat animals, we hunt animals and we respect them by trying to make use of every bit of them making into clothes, food etc. And say If insects, moths, spiders, pests invade your home do you just let them stay and do what they want or do you get rid of them. Ainz was kind enough to warn them the risks and even tried to give them treasure so they'd be satisfied but their greed led them to pursue further in hopes of more and they paid the price
No. He didn't try to give them treasure. Didn't you see what he thinks of thieves? You think he'd forgive thieves just because they steal only a little? Hell no. If they steal even one gold piece, that's already out of greed. There's no "but their greed led them to steal more", stealing a little or stealing a lot is irrelevant. No. Those treasures at the entrance were put there as a test to see whether they are thieves or visitors. He's not going to kill people who have merely come to visit and who show respect. That's why he put a guild banner there. Not for them to take, but for them to know whose house they've entered.
you keep saying hes the bad guy but you know what is a bunch of people came into your house ready to loot and kill and you were able to capture them theres no cops so what would you do?
False equivalency. He baited groups of paid people into a place they believed to be long abandoned who did not know of his presence or his ownership of the property then tortured and/or killed them despite them being no threat. You cannot claim defense of self or property if you invite people to take something then grievously wound or kill them despite them being unable to harm you.

Kelvin already a member of Nazarick, he's not fazed by the atrocities Ainz committed lmao
the chained collar you see ains and the lizard men wearing cuts down their stats for an xp boost thats why they wear them to train and fight
I loved just how much of a shock that this episode was! Up until now we were believing just how likeable that Ainz and the guardians were. Then we got smacked in the face by just how utterly ruthless that they were.
Overlord just being overlord
Who even thought that this is about the hero 😂
We the villain
8:27 Momon can easily say "Not on my contract... I've told to protect your carriages and that's it."
Yeah, and there's a reason it was Workers who were sent. They are grave robbers. It's considered dirty work. Adventurers wouldn't take that job.
Aye I opened RUclips at the perfect time 🤣
Ainz does have weaknesses, he is weak against holy and fire magic, blunt and strike attacks.
IRC, the couple was not sent to the cockroach nest, they where sent to the worm parasite pit on the 6th floor
I think Arche's sisters died as labor slaves, and they died of exhaustion rather than being disposed of while dying. The similarity between their fate and what Tsuare's would have been without Sebas begins at slavery and ends at death, none of the particulars were the same. Not that that makes it any better.
IMO, this arc was _also_ designed to prepare the readers for the "SPLAT SPLAT SPLAT" pages just in case you're still "innocent" at this point. 😁
They Called This Show Dark Fantasy For A Reason
This show never made me cry in other parts, but the scene of the two little sisters waiting for their big sis to come home was soo fucking sad man
Hio "why an anoncer with no audience" if i remember correctly the colosseun seats where FULL with golems (one of the workers was thinking that gives kind of a sad/lonely vibe)
These guys are probably not even level 20
30+ is hero level not even gazef reached it. Maybe he is like 28,29
The chain Ainz wearing is to increase the efficiency of training, last episode lizardman also wear those chain
I have not laughed at a reaction video this much in years, The best part is the discussion after each episode 😂
5:00 they're arrows to do bludgeoning damage, an undead weakness
They planned from the beginning to reveal the real Nazarick to the World as it to be recognised as a country
13:30 rubbing in the salt….😂 this burns…
The thing to remember about Ainz personality is two fold, first the human he was before was very pragmatic, aka I'll help you if it benefits me or if you gave me help in some capacity before and the reverse for people insult or impede the progress of his goals. And secondly his undead status has made humans less than npcs in his eyes afterall you don't feel bad when a low level monster in a video game attacks you, you slay it, go 'ooh loot' and continue on your merry way. Same mindset, especially for those he doesn't consider 'named npcs' like these workers.
Had the dragon all along its one of auras pets, you'll see more of them later though
the episode I started questioning this whole anime
Easy way to tell if its a clone is to look if the world level item in in Ainz’s chest. Literally cant miss the red orb he keeps there lol
Nice reaction! Excited to see the reaction of the guy at the right to something that will happen later
16:17 Aura and Mare have 2 dragons from an Yggdrasil lottery game
This was such a fun reaction to watch.
But yeah, the reason Ainz had a fight with this group was because he already dueled all the other workers but anime skipped it, this was the last remaining group, and well Ainz is really trying to improve his warrior skills and what is better than a whole group of perfect teammate that are nearly equal to your warrior stats.(Ainz without perfect warrior is equal to level 30 warriors since he doesn`t have any SKILLs and only physical attributes)
13:30 the sisters break many a reactor at this point, if the tale of their future were revealed it would even be worse.
Duds the anime is nice for hiding some dark fate such of those sisters 😅 they got more than loose her sister😢
In the webnovel Arche survives and becomes a servant of Ains under Shalltear, her sister get protection in Nazarick.
In the LN the sisters get sold into slavery and get big R'ed till dying from it.
the collar and chains are XP boosters
i guarantee `touch of undead` give out negative effects on it`s victim..or maybe random negative effects...unless Ainz can control it
Ain't is looking out for him and his people what more can you ask of him?
15:13 . This remind me of the undertale Genocide vs Deltarune Ice grave discussion.(spoiler ahead)
in Undertale you can do an Genocide on an entire Species, brutally killing multiple innocent and then destroy the world.
In Deltarune you break the spirit of a girl until you can turn her against her friend and put him in ice (heavily implying that it killed the friend).
And even though the scale is sooo different, there are many crazy people who think the Deltarune one is worse than total Genocide xD
In other shows, you hope the protagonists can survive against the antagonists. In Overlord, it's the other way around.
I wonder how strong is ainz if he can learn wild magic too
"there is no hope in this world" there is hope and there is a hero .... but its not what you think and yes things will only get alot worse from here on out massively worse and yes you will see a butt ton of new characters all the time so better get used to it
Ainz really said I'm Undead not democray
Whos going to tell them what happend to the twins? 😅
Put a spoiler and tell me about it if you think they'll not adapt it in the anime
You mean in the light novel? I’m not there yet but the twins are my favorite, please tell me 😢
Not a spoiler the sisters are later sold to slavery and they die of overwork
Are you serious? You think they were in the fake Nazarick? You literally saw them outside Nazarick before they started towards their doom. You've also seen Aura building the fake Nazarick which looks nothing like the real Nazarick. You've seen the outside of the real Nazarick in the very first few episodes when Mare was building hills around it to conceal it. Are you okay man?
This is the episode that I dropped Overlord
in the original story archie didnt die she became one of shaltears vampire brides
Wasn't that the web novel which isn't canon?
That was not in the Light Novel. iirc it was the web novel which would not be canon.
Web Novel is not canon, it's just a construct for the Light Novel which is canon.
she didnt, she was just played with sexually
Let's just say the twin sisters didn't have a good time after that.
In the manga they don't kill off the golden haired girl.
Yeh
Cool
If you feel sad or conflict about it in this episode meaning the author indeed success delivering the story.
The meaning of this eps, specifically this. To make a point that we are not really a good guy. The choices Ainz made that feels like a good thing you will realize it has it's own benefit for him "Ainz" even if it's so small.
So for saving the thieve that clearly not benefitting Ainz it's out of the question.
If you want Ainz to be good, be sure you have something that he see will benefit him. The other one, respect him and his comrade. And the last one be a man that Ainz respect somehow like Gazef.
bruh this is Dark Fantasy 😂
What do you expect ? a hero saved them?
this is the time i gave up on anything
well welcome...they build a loveable character just to die by Ainz..kekw
Hey just saying this twin sisters. Well, they canceled their life subscription while in slavery
👉👉👉Trust me you havent seen the real massacre yet 😅
[ FUN TRIVIA ]
Did you know that among the worker group, Foresight, the only one who died among them is just Arche?
12:40 I won't spoil anything, but you'll eventually regret those words. I won't say why or what episode but, you're gonna regret them.
you keep saying hes the bad guy but you know what is a bunch of people came into your house ready to loot and kill and you were able to capture them theres no cops so what would you do?
False equivalency. He baited groups of paid people into a place they believed to be long abandoned who did not know of his presence or his ownership of the property then tortured and/or killed them despite them being no threat. You cannot claim defense of self or property if you invite people to take something then grievously wound or kill them despite them being unable to harm you.
@@mr44mag Ainz did offer them salvation before the trespassing. Remember that Ainz will do everything to let Nazarick prosper, and inviting thieves although distasteful was approved by him to let Nazarick become a country. Don't mistake Ainz for goodness because he is neutral evil.
How about you watch it in the language you understand so you can understand it...
To me there are really no bad or good guys 😂
One of the best episode in this anime
