    My family uses a collaborative list in Apple Notes for gift ideas as well, but we use it for everyone to note what they want as a gift. Everyone has their own section of the note that they can just add to. That way, when birthdays, Christmas, etc. comes around, we’re not asking everyone what they want provided they are keeping their respective lists updated through the year.
    Recommendation for next video: can you share how you organize Apple Notes? What folders you use and why?
    Thanks! Great video. I’m new to Apple products after being on Android for 10+ years, so you have so very helpful info. New sub here!

      A collaborative list is a great idea. Good job on that…
      Absolutely make a video about organizing notes, because I think it’s really important between folders and tags… So keep your eyes open for that.
      As a new Apple user are there any other questions, suggestions or ideas you have for future future videos? Please let me know.

    Another great video, which has prompted me to sort out my notes into a better folder structure. My suggestion for a future video could be to show how to create a better structure to find notes easily - the search function seems to be hit & miss. I saw you had many folders with simple titles - probably as it was a test account for the demo. And, a tip I saw in another video is to put an emoji at the front of a folder text to make it look nicer and help categorize.

      If you haven't watched this video of mine yet, you should check it out, It covers those exact topics and more like tags and emojis. There may still be future videos about how to create file structures and organize your notes but this should get you started. That being said, you are completely right search is never as effective as sorting and filing things. Searching is awesome… Finding is so much better..

      Why oh why does every every every RUclipsr think there is some kind of universal Law that demands every video - no matter whether documentary, entertaining, interview, tutorial, informational… even the most serious topics… - to have annoying distracting repetitive background music ?! Can people today really not exist without ceaseless 24/7 overstimulation anymore ?! Why can we not be presented with the focus on plain and simple facts and information instead of making it into some kind forced attempt at being entertaining by adding distracting annoying background sounds ? and thanks much for sharing the good tips ! :-)

      @@PeterQuentercrimsonbamboo I don't disagree with you, but it is the standard. And although I prefer quiet videos, many people ask for background music. This video's music was too loud and distracting for my taste, but I didn't realize that until after I uploaded it and listened to it myself. Future videos have quieter, more subtle music. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching. Hopefully my newer videos will be less distracting for you.

      @@TheMacWhisperer - ah, yes, of course... understandable ! - yet, about that 'adhering to the standards' thing ... just because the majority is doing it does not mean it is the right thing- or the beneficial thing to do - and, yes, of course, many people, thus, will request background music... likely simply because they grew up with it (in Germany, for example, we never had the constant background music in shops, shopping centers, businesses, tutorials, - if ever any music at all, it was very subtle barely noticeable barely audible soft classical music... ... when I came to Canada in 1990 it was one of the first things I noticed here... musak musak musak everywhere... ) - but there also many people who comment on these kinds of RUclips channels how they hate background music - so, in the end, it is a question of personal preference either way, of course - still, considering that the vast mojority these days just automatically adds background noise because 'it is the standard' and *presumed* required to appeal to people, I, for one, will continue to voice my opposition :-) (absolutely nothing intended personal !! ) - especially, as psychology, and people's experience, does indicate that the wrong kind of background music can indeed be distracting to the message - besides all that, I look forward to more Mac-teaching from you :-) :-)

    For recipes on the web, I use the “print recipe” function, which usually opens a new window. From that new window, I use the share menu and select “clip article to notes.” This imports the entire recipe into notes without all the copy and paste. I do this on my iPad. Not sure if it can be done on a desktop or laptop.

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  5 месяцев назад

      That works pretty well, but requires you to click the link on notes to go to the website to see the recipe. I like having it natively in text on the notes so that I can easily edit it if I need to make changes (I’m modify a lot of recipes as I cook them). But it’s really a great suggestion!

    I love Apple Notes and would love to migrate my Evernote notes into Notes. My issue is that Notes seems to be a storage hog. With fewer than 1000 notes almost 8 GB of storage has been taken up on my phone. Any tips?

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  3 месяца назад +2

      It all depends on what you’re putting into notes. My first tip is to make sure you are using iCloud for your notes so that they aren’t taking up your local storage space but are being stored in the cloud instead.
      My second suggestion is although you can add attachments and scans directly into Notes, in most cases I recommend pulling the content off of the scan or out of the attachments.
      In other words if it’s a PDF with information you wanna keep track of just copy and paste the contents over to notes rather than carrying along the big attachment.
      Evernote was great for keeping track of anything, attachments pictures Receipts… But it became a hog for all of those things and made it difficult to find them.
      In most cases you just want an easy way to quickly find the information you’re looking for without hassle…
      And eliminating attachments or scans whenever possible will not only simplify the searching but will significantly decrease the amount of storage you use.
      Hope that helps.

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  6 месяцев назад +1

      Reminders and notes are very important tools for the Apple ecosystem, and they are both critical. One is not better than the other. In this video I was suggesting using notes for basic checklists, but in my next video I will talk about how I use reminders… And why it’s better for a lot of things like that.
      Done properly notes and reminders work together because there is some overlap, but I use both extensively.
      Reminders is better for when I want to be alerted (or reminded) about a task. But sometimes when I’m trying to organize my day it’s easier to just shut it down in notes and keep it open on my computer so I can attack the task one after the other.
      My Reminders lists are Extensive, and serve a slightly different purpose. I’ll talk about that more in the next video.
      Thanks for watching!

      Sure. I have a note that has all of my upcoming RUclips ideas. When I’m ready to shoot one I create a new note and type (or usually dictate) my bullet points out so I’ve got them in front of me. And then open the note and its own window, and record using a program called screen flow. This allows me to Fill myself and the phone. I have the phone in a holster right by the camera, so that I can “look at the camera“ while also working on the phone.
      Once the video is edited, I run it through a program called Descript to get a transcript, subtitles, and to clean up any loose ends or Messed up words. Descript is great because it lets you edit the transcript and it cleans up the video when you do it. It even has an option to use an AI version of my voice to replace a word or two when I make a mistake. I want my recent videos I said look to your right when I meant look to your left, and I just swapped out the word on Descript and you could never tell that I made the mistake.
      I use Canva to design the thumbnails, and once I’ve got all the pieces together I upload it directly to RUclips.
      Over the four years I’ve been making videos my processes refined over and over again as I create new systems to do it cleaner, better and easier. It’s just how my brain works. I’m always improving.
      Are you interested in making videos?

      It depends on if you need heavy formatting. I wouldn’t write an entire novel with notes, but it’s great for poems, short stories, outlines, organizing your thoughts and basic writing.
      I only use a word processor when it’s a long form document or needs complex formatting.

    Tips for daily planning using notes, Calendar, and Reminders? I hope Apple adds more direct integrations into Notes to add a reminder or add a note to the calendar without using the share sheet and keeping it all on the same page per se.

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  3 месяца назад

      I get this request a lot for Apple to more tightly integrate reminders, notes and the calendar. You should know them in the upcoming operating systems being released in September reminders will get fully added to calendar. As far as notes… It's really not where you should be putting reminders, and although it might be helpful for an alert to be sent based on a to do in notes… You can already do that in Reminders so I recommend using Reminders more for that function, and using notes for other features like documents that you want to keep track of and easily access.
      Besides that, don't forget that Siri works much better when adding single items to reminders then to notes, and you can do that without using the share sheet at all. Just your voice…

    Paprika, a dedicated recipe keeper is much better to use. It groups them, automatically pulls everthing down with one click. Why try to make your Notes program anything it isn’t? I love Notes, and use it all the time. I just don’t try to make it something it isn’t.

    • @TheMacWhisperer
      @TheMacWhisperer  5 месяцев назад

      I own and have used Paprika, but when the vast majority of what i track is in notes, it always feel counterintuitive to go over to a separate app like Paprika... so as a result it ends up in Notes.
      Everyone has different practices and ways to use their tools. For me Notes is where I store ANYTHING that I want to refer back to later... and recipes fits perfectly in that concept.
      The idea of making Notes something it isn't makes sense.... but for me it is a great place to collect information and easily refer back to it... so why not use it for things like recipes?
