I look forward to your videos every week, because I know that what ever subject you chose to discuss or demonstrate, will be pure gold! When you share your experiences with us, it’s priceless. Tim, your honesty about compensation is refreshing. Many youtubers don’t even address whether or not they were compensated for a product demo/review, let alone whether the piece of gear is a loan/gift/purchase.
I agree 100% . I am always sceptical about reviews when they get the items to keep for themselves. I feel they are afraid to say anything critical or unflattering. A few other RUclipsrs like Robert Baker does the reviews only if the company is willing to let him donate the item to one of his viewing patrons in a drawing which is cool also.
Memories of 60s London & Vox Phantom guitars! If you couldn't get one of the big names, then Vox or Hofner were your best options. Love the look & sound of those new models. Christmas came early to your house.
Had me sold on the amp and guitar about 10 seconds in. What a sound! Just gorgeous playing. I know how you play and sound, but my jaw just kind of dropped on this one. Kudos. :)
Tim's phone: "Your delivery is ten stops away." Tim: "Honey, can you go to the store and get milk and half and half?" as he pours half a gallon of milk down the drain. Unfortunately he is so exited he forgets the boxes on the foyer.
Wait a minute if being a studio guitar god gets you an entrance way like that im in the wrong line of work! Keep up the great work and much love brother.
I have the V90. Overall, the tone is bright. But the tone is also the most sensitive to guitar volume knob setting I have ever experienced. 100% volume = super-bright tone; 80% volume = mellow tone. In fact, there is a clear step-change in tone as you come down from 100% to somewhere around 85% volume (Vox confirmed this to me as a feature not a bug, when I queried it). On top of that, the range of tone available from the tone knobs is huge: again the most I have ever experienced in a guitar. I like it a lot. The articulation from the pickups is amazing. Such a shock after thirteen years of having my Les Paul humbuckers bark at me! I play indie, classic rock and early Rolling Stones - all of which suit this guitar. If I turned up the tone knobs it would be perfect for The Beatles. I only tried a Bobcat S66 in a shop. Like you, not for long. For me, it neither fish nor fowl. Those pickups don’t seem to belong on a Bobcat. A Stratocaster would make more sense if I wanted three single-coils… But no doubt thousands of people love them, so who am I to doubt? I just hope those people also tried the V90 before deciding…
This video came along literally as I’ve been contemplating going back to my Vox rig from the Friedman stuff I’ve used for the better part of the last year...
Tim, I have been playing guitar for 50 years. I was at Leon's house when they left on the mad dogs tour what a band. One of my band mates also played with Joe. Did ever meet Ken Stange a great keyboard /piano player and someone everyone loves because he has no musician bullshit attitudes but can play and arrange anything in any genre. That said although I am too poor and too old for your masterclass I wanted you to know from an old pro that your style of melodic playing is so rare and inspiring. You and larry Carlton and Sometimes Robben ford and Lee Ritenour actually sing on your guitar. I can hum almost all the solos on Larrys 335 because like you he plays like a singer sings and you birth play with fabulous dynamics.! Sure I listenn to the shredders occasionally and respect their talent. i have seen you both shred but it is always in the songs context which I appreciate. It's easy to see why you are so in demand for session work..Like leon, who seemed to always make every album he played on. BB king Rolling Stones Joe Cocker the best they would ever sound. because he played so strong everyone had to play along. If you ever need a great versatile (Bach to Miles to Muddy) keyboardist Ask Ken Stange a undiscovered diamond. He is surviving by playing with Dennis Quaid and Paul Anka but barely now that covid is limiting everyone's live gigs.I miss Joe and Leon. but I've got you and Beato to inspire me. I still play every day and am amazed by people like Brian May Jay Graydon and Tommy Emanuel. Tommy is more my style or dela electric roots blues
I haven't played this line of Vox guitars, but I own a Vox SSC-55 from about 10 years ago and it is a great-playing, high quality guitar. One thing I like about Vox under Korg's ownership is that while they still make the traditional AC amps, they are not afraid to innovate. When my c. 1965 solid state Vox amp head became unreliable for gigs, I replaced it with a new-at-the-time Vox blue series modeling amp head in a custom cabinet to match my original chrome trolley speaker cabinet. I got lots of compliments on my tone from sound men and other players, who were usually surprised to find out it was a brand new modeling amp I was playing.
I'm an owner of vox ssc55 with Lindy Fralin P90 pickups. Honestly, this guitar sounds like a million bucks, and is so comfortable. Shape of the body is unique and ergonomic. I can spend 8 hours playing on it and don't feel tired.
Sounds great, beautiful home. Would love to hear Tim try out one of those Vox guitars with the 3-Ninety pickups. I tried one once unplugged in a store but Tim could definitely break it down nicely.
VOX has always made great products I bought a VOX bass in 1971 while I was stationed in Panama and it played great. It had a fuzz and G tuner built into it. It was made in Italy. I don't play bass any longer but I have a VOX VT 40 that I use at jams.
Thanks for showing these! Great looking guitars with a wide variety of tones to boot! Me likey! I bought, recently, a WOLF 335 guitar out of LA from AIO guitars originally made in South Korea. Lovin' it at present.
Had I just built a nice house and seen the width of that hallway, I'd have been ticked not to have built mine that wide. Love to see the whole house. Oh, yeah, the video was good too!
@@stephenwalsh2634 If I recall correctly, Tim did 7 World Tours, and thousands of sessions. I am sure it's all been earned. I bet he insisted that he have a wide entrance-way. I get super pissed going thru a doorway with an amp..and hearing it nail the door..or the wall. Ugh!
The guitar and amp both sound great without much fuss - that’s precisely what we all want. It just sounds right. Of course your playing doesn’t harm either.
Tim, in 1986 I had a Mesa/Boogie MKIII built for me. It was their 'Short head' separate single 12" cabinet.. (unloaded) for $1700. In 1986 $1700 was a lot of money to pay for an amp without a speaker in it. Had to pay them all of the money before they'd start building it. OK fine. It took about 5 months for me to get the amp. Always LOVED it. Got a 'semi' every time the blue power light came on when I flipped on the A.C. switch. Eventually the unavailability of tubes and the improvement of modelling had me switch over to modelers. My thought is that if you're in the actual room WITH the big heavy tube amp and a 4-12 cabinet or two... something undefinable is there.. but I don't think it transfers to tape.. in a mix. Your thoughts?
I have the AC15 CH and it’s killer, I know it’s not a classic British made model, but honestly, the Chinese are doing a great job with these, they are awesome.
I had an AC30CCH (custom classic head) and 2 x 12” greenback cab from the mid-00’s which I foolishly sold to buy an AC15. (Studio size constraints at the time - should have just moved to a 1 x 12” cabinet with hindsight). It sounded amazing and was really convenient for a ‘utility’ head. (Proper onboard reverb/trem/master vol/effects loop). here’s a lot of bellyaching because they’re built in the Far East - but those amps sound like Voxes and offer a lot of benefits to people who don’t have the ability to play “jet plane loud”.
Well the truth is it’s usually about 50% off. These days there’s always a good regular customer discount anyway, so it’s not actually that much less...Still I am grateful for it when I pull the trigger
Love the video, and your explanation about how the in amp reverb makes the distortion more musical. I think you could do more demo videos and interject on why the gear sounds good and how to utilize it best. Almost like a demo/tone lesson in one.
