Go back to the early days of recording studios, where a few creative audio engineers discovered a new world of augmented sound by pushing the limits of studio tape machines. By inventing automatic doubletracking, they introduced echo, flanging, and chorus to the world of recorded music.
Intensify and widen your sound with Deco's Doubletracker controls. Turn the Lag Time to obtain classic slapback tape echo, spacious doubletrack chorusing, and mind-bending tape flanging. Add random modulation with the Wobble control and go from very subtle movement to more extreme undulations-just like having a recording engineer vary the speed of the machine.

Genius. This pedal fosters creativity, rather than just providing a blanket effect that can be modified in minor ways. Every pedal from now on needs to take a page out of this pedal's book. Perfect timing with this too, with so many getting back into tape and vinyl.
Possibly one of the best ideas for a pedal ever.
Stereo outputs sound way better than the Mono demos others have put out.
Old school magic recreated in the 21st century; love it!
Never thought a pedal could really be worth nearly £300.
This one, I can understand fully.
This pedal changes the game for me. Blown away.
Magnificent work again Strymon! :) Such a beautiful pedal, I love the pitchy-goodness!
I can see this masterwork in my board in the near future. You guys are untouchable. The best of the best in the market.
Favorite pedal out of all the pedals ever made here on earth.....
Mine arrived today, and it sounds amazing!
Really makes for a nice warm tone.
Strymon ROCKS!
Fun! Hope you have had time to start exploring your Deco. Thanks :)
Just purchased this pedal and cannot wait to use it on everything!
The best I have seen in years!
It's worth bringing a phone w/you next to the DECO and trying out these settings to get a feel for how the two sides of the pedal work, and how different sum/invert/bounce are to the deck. This is an amazing pedal to record with because you can get a huge variety of character with one pedal.
I keep watching these videos over and over. Its truly remarkable just how many different uses and applications this one pedal can bring to both live and recording/mixing setups. I must find a way to get one. My mind is reeling with musical ideas now. You've outshined yourselves Strymon. That in and of itself is truly remarkable. Magick.
Thank you so much! This makes our day :D
strymon My pleasure. You can return the favor if you want, I don't mind. Nudge nudge wink wink.. :)
The phase, flange AND saturation are the sounds I've always heard in my head but have never really been able to nail down.
...Until now...
Amazing pedal. Added the Deco and El Capistan to my other Strymon pedals. Love Strymon.
Chorus and Flange are like my least two favorite effects, but this is incredible to me and I need one.
I agree, this has made me re think those two effects
I can't get anywhere near that variety of sound or depth running mono into a silver deluxe. An ADA blows this out if the water in mono for flanging. After the el cap and lex this was a big disappointment
In fairness, most of these demos are in stereo, where it excels.
Chorus and Flanger are my two favorite effects lol
Alan Passat I’m sorry but I can’t see how the Deco is a disappointment. Countless people including some of the top players and even that pedal show rave about this pedal. It’s not meant to sound like a Boss jet plane flanger. It’s based on a double analog tape machine which you have the ability to flange with.
Holy crap I've never wanted a pedal so bad! Great sounds!
sounds rad! Totally fun to tweak and see what happens!
Quite possibly the best pedal ever created imo. Definitely gear of the year so far for me. I just pre ordered one.
Thanks! Please share when your Deco arrives :D
Oh Lord I'm loving this 😍
Just picked one up the other day and WOW! I tried the Deco, the Mobius, and the Timeline, but the Deco really spoke to me more than the other two. I can just nail that sound I hear in my head. I'm a huge Rush nerd, and this pedal has me closer than ever to some of those classic tones! Thank you strymon! P.S: I would cry with joy if you set your brilliant minds to making an octave pedal. The world needs it.
So happy to hear that. We are Rush fans over here, too! Would love to hear some of what you create. Thanks for the feedback, appreciate that :D
Good to hear a demo with a player that's got some chops. Appears I can retire my beloved CE-1.
pass it over! :D
this pedal sounds like it has a mind of its own!
Killer! Amazing!
3:08 right in the feels
Just got my DECO yesterday - love it! Easier to use than the Timeline which needs a midi controller, and a longer learning curve to make it worthwhile. Getting so much out of Deco 5 minutes out of the box.
Sweet! Please share if you post any recordings :D
I like this!
The filtered flange wow
ok i wanna hear VOCALS thru this Baby!!!
I use a little 24-track Tascam digital recorder/mixer, and it records very transparent tracks. Using a Damage Control Demonizer and Womanizer and a JHS Colour Box before the inputs on the Tascam, I get great coloration on my guitars, vocals, synth, and drum machine, and it really leaves me with warm, fat tracks that don't sound like they were recorded with a $500 digital "porta-studio." I preordered the Deco (already shipped!) to live between the Damage Control or JHS preamps and the Tascam recorder, and I can't wait to hear how the tape saturation and effects will further enhance my poor-man's recording studio...and I never have to stare at a monitor or use a mouse while I'm creating. Strymon, you guys are amazing.
How did that idea go?
👌🏻 Excellent, I have it running into a Flint 😁
1.15 fantastic sound !...
I've finally got a DECO on its way to me. No wonder it's catching players' attention. These are the very sounds on many of our favorite classic albums! I hear sounds I recognize from Jimi Hendrix songs, as well as rockabilly and country stuff. But I also hear sounds I recognize from players from more recent decades like Henry Frayne and Robin Guthrie.
I love Strymon Pedals!! Can you do a demo with this pedal hooked up to a synth?? Can it be used to get some cool effects on synths?
How in the hell did I ever miss this pedal? I think the masses bought the Mobius for its multiple effects appeal but I have to believe the Deco is the king of tape flange effects or am I wrong?
lynyrddeville you’re not wrong. This pedal has the best flange and tape saturation sounds I’ve ever heard
You are not wrong. It's a fantastic problem-solver of a pedal.
This pedal is so well-designed. With just a decent Fuzz, the Deco, and a decent delay (when all else fails, Boss DD-5 or DD-7 to the rescue!) I can get 85% of the tones I use. Add a Compressor, an Overdrive and one favorite modulation pedal (I'd probably go with an MXR Phase 95 because versatility) and I'm kinda set for almost anything.
... almost
This pedal is the dogs bollocks. I'm saving up.
sound at 0:45 get's close to gorgie / killing joke. Beautiful!
I wish you guys made a small phaser pedal!
Aside from the saturation, why can't my timeline or Mobius have this as an added algorithm?
It sounds good but I'm a little frustrated that this is the newest thing after waiting months and months to see what they've been up to.
can this replace my dm2 or walrus julia?
Can "Lag Time" be controlled via expression jack (from modular synth's LFO output)?
Yes, you can control the Lag Time via expression through the EXP input. Using the LFO output from your synth should be fine as long as you do not exceed 5V to the EXP input.
0:45 Hes a dream ! Shandi.... Flashdance OST .....superb....
Hi Strymon! can I use this pedal like a modulation pedal after my distortion pedals to go in front of the amp? I like so much the Deco's flanging sound
Hi LovelyGuitars! Yes, you can place the Deco right after your distortion pedals before the amp for modulation.
Sounds wicked, does the double track side have to be engaged to use the autoflange feature? Or Is it a "tap and then hold" dealio for a random burst of flange.
Thanks for checking it out! The Doubletracker does not need to be engaged to use the Auto-Flange feature so you can just press and hold the switch while the effect is bypassed to access it. It will leave the Doubletracker engaged when you release the Bypass switch, so a quick tap after release is necessary to bypass it again.
would love to see/hear some examples of vocal ADT with this thing. Should be great for that, right??
Louis Perry Yes! We do need to post some vocal examples :) Check out this bit of vocal demo that Guitarist did ruclips.net/video/67dFKkIjw9g/видео.html
The pedal sounds amazing, can't wait to get one! By the way, what's that cool shoe in the video?
Thanks truelight11 :D The shoes are TOMS :)
Wish I had never heard because it means I have to have one of course... Unplanned expenditure!
I'm pretty sure the Deco would sound great on some other instruments as well. Electric piano, synth, acoustic & 12 string guitar, even bass guitar could find uses for this awsome tone machine. It sounds great w/ electric guitar, I'd love to explore some of the other options.
Yes, absolutely. We have some customer videos in our playlist called "Deco - Your Videos" That show off some of those instruments (ruclips.net/p/PLzRd5PPv5fMuDv1OOW_M2T1vjgaf6E7j8) We also will in the future do some more demos :) Thanks!
strymon Thank you!!! \m/~L~\m/
At 01:43........that cool 'random' flanging (as opposed to the boring up/down/up/down flanging).
Does that type of flanging occur regardless of the level of the incoming guitar signal?
There are some flangers out there that provide 'envelope flanging' (what I refer to as 'random flanging'), but the device settings have to be 'just right' in order to trigger. Any change in the guitar volume.....and you have to re-tweak the flanger.
Is the Deco a 'set and forget' type of device?
Thanks!
+guitarguy382 Yes, the WOBBLE control on Deco sets the amount of random speed modulation of the LAG DECK. This movement is not tied to your input signal dynamics and works in a 'set and forget' manner.
"This movement is not tied to your input signal dynamics and works in a 'set and forget' manner."
'Bout damn time someone created this feature! Constantly tweaking the envelope setting was annoying.
Outstanding! Just what I need. The small footprint is also a big plus. Much thanks for the quick reply.
Finally got one!
NICE!!!!!!!
Been fiddling with it for the past hour......damn nice pedal. No regrets!
I've always loved the 'thru zero' effect, and what I REALLY love about this pedal is the ability to quickly get that effect by
pressing & holding the 'doubletracker' switch.
This let's you turn-on that cool flange effect regardless of what other effect/settings you are using.
(The flange becomes the dominant effect for as long as you hold that switch.)
Just press/hold that switch and the flange introduces itself very nicely.....and then fades when you release the switch.
Very, very cool!
That method will engage auto-flange, BUT.........you can also obtain an 'auto-flange' effect by setting the lag-time knob (and other settings) correctly.
(Go to 01:43 in this video.)
Will be ordering an El Capistan by end of day.
Is there a 'tap-tempo' option?
If 'Yes', what footswitch would be needed?
Thanks!
Yes, you can use our MiniSwitch accessory for external tap of the Deco's Doubletracker. Keep in mind that you get a single or double repeat of up to 500ms on Deco which is different than a standard delay pedal.
What is the mxr distortion pedal used in some of the examples?
It is the MXR Distortion II, made in the early '80s. Thanks :)
you took out of the state of sacrilege digital pedals in my pedalboard, Deco is beautiful, this can work like a preamp in place of EP booster or mxr echoplex for El Capistan?
You can definitely use the Deco's Tape Saturation as an always on preamp to fatten up your sound.
strymon cmon guys, you should improve it with a MIDI in, with those tons of great settings its not fair have just 2 (with favorite switch) or your malevolent plan its that we buy 2 or 3 of them? D:
strymon More than a lost (because the favorite switch sales) i think that a MIDI improve to all your products will caught those all an the fly guitar players, thanks for listen :)
Can I have the tabs for the section at 4:32....
Its on its way..my el-cap and lex have more company coming. Killing Joke probably made me do it.
+Paul Fabrique So how is the Deco?
How is it different from the el cap on the delay side?
Is that bit you're playing during the "Harmonics" section of the video a song? If so, what's it's name?
That was a riff made by our own Marketing guy Ethan Tufts who also performs as State Shirt.
strymon Cool, thanks!
What is signal chain at 1:16 before the Deco is turned on?
For this example, the chain is guitar => Deco IN » Stereo OUT to two Damage Control tube preamps => recording interface stereo IN.
Is it possible to get a phaser-ish sound? :)
+Edson Ochoa While Phasing and Flanging are similar, there are differences in how they are produced to get their unique sounds. With the Deco, a short delay time is applied to the entire frequency spectrum of the input and mixed with the non-delayed signal to get a flanging sound. A phaser works differently in that the various frequencies of the input signal are delayed by different amounts producing a non-linear phasing sound. This is not possible with the Deco.
Sensible footwear. It's good to stay safe while operating such pedals.
There is another pedal I wish I had never heard.....First the el cap.....then the lex.....now this......
what tuning did you used in 4:31?
+Kerryn Prieto Thanks for checking out the video! :) Ethan likes to use his guitars in DADGAD tuning so I'm sure that is what the guitar is set to in that part of the video.
How do I perform a factory reset on Deco?
Hi, Our smaller pedals don't have a factory reset procedure. You can dial in the factory settings by hand if you wish; the values for all settings defaults can be found in the user manual at Strymon.net. Thanks :)
i NEED the chords used at around 1:35 or 1:40 pleeeaase!!
Hi! We didn't note the chords when we recorded this piece, but Darlene at Strymon took a listen and her best guess is Am9 (Cmaj7) Gmaj7 (Bm) D6add9. Try those out and let us know how it goes :)
On the overdriven sounds was this pedal before the overdrive or after?
The Deco was placed after the overdrive used in some of the examples of this video.
Kick ass, cant wait to stick it in the loop of an unleash with a cranked amp in front of it.
can i get leslie like sounds with this?
Gabriel Freire Thanks for checking out the Deco video! :) I would not recommend using the Deco if you are looking for leslie rotary speaker sounds. A better option is the Strymon Lex or the Mobius' rotary speaker effect.
2.51 it sounds like Geordie Walker ADT
Have you tried in a bass Guitar?
+Facu Gori Hi, For a nice little taste of Deco with bass, check out Guitarist video here ruclips.net/video/67dFKkIjw9g/видео.htmlm45s and also check out our "Your Deco" playlist to see a few others using Deco with bass. Thank so much :D
The sounds on this video are epic but , are we hearing this pedal through two amps on some of these clips?...looks like they're using both stereos outputs for a lot of the examples, meaning you can't really achieve this awesome tone unless you are also playing through two amps...??
Hi Michael, our stereo set up was Deco » two Damage Control tube preamps.
Pedal sounds great - shame you've got such a high noise floor to begin with though!
some pretty limitless creativity with this pedal....
need synths ejemples ;)
Yes it would be great to make some synth examples :) In the meantime here is a playlist we have of customers playing Deco with different instruments ruclips.net/video/KFFS2qdiwow/видео.html
thnks!!
Aw gee sus, why would anyone want to sound like that ? The Strymon Volante is brilliant though 👍
A green shoe
Disturbing shoes.
RIP earbud users...
having to hold the double-t footswitch down with an appendage in order to get tzf flanging is a MAJOR deal-breaker. seriously, WHAT were you thinkin'? you REALLY should have had a manual sweep knob, ala the foxrox paradox tzf, with an exp ped input for dialing in the zero point, so you can set & forget the tzf to occur at the zero point by itself, a feature you'd THINK would be called "auto-hold;" HELLO! who's gonna want to play "house burnin' down" while having to keep their foot pressed & holding a footswitch bypass down? c'mon guys...
strymon haha, open mouth, insert foot....
strymon Class act, through and through!
strymon This pedal is entirely amazing, I cant see how any fault could be found with it. Strymon = Maguck.
Give a Deco to the sound guy. If he's worth his salt he'll make House Burning sound killer.
