Strymon El Capistan - Tape Chorus Sounds (+comparison with Strymon Deco)

- Strymon El Capistan is capable of nice chorus sounds.
Trying to get a chorus effect was the first thing I did with the El Capistan since I liked how the chorus is achieved on the Deco and thought it would be possible with the El Capistan as well. Seems like I was right.
You can hear how both pedals sound in a chorus setting in this video.
First, El Capistan with various Time, Repeats, Wow&Flutter, and Mix settings. Then, comparison with Deco.

This is awesome. I’m going to unload my Boss chorus pedal and just use my El Cap. Close enough for this bedroom player.
for get the best chorus experience i recommend you use deco chorus in stereo sound . do not use mono. is amazing

Searching for a chorus pedal but this could make a great substitute for a chorus pedal!
It just might be me but I turn on both sides of the Deco because it seems to make the modulation thicker and more pronounced. I love my Deco and think it's the best pedal I've ever owned (and better be for the price of it lol)
Is it better than the El Capistan for echo? (I'm chasing that Eric Johnson echoplex kinda tone)
@@realtruenorth Idk know I haven't had a chance to try that one yet. I don't think it will get eric johnson tone by itself but then again I've never tried. All I know is that it can really enhance ones tone and give you that thick tone you hear on so many of those seventies albums.

I remember doing something similar with my old Carbon Copy. Try it in stereo, even better...can get you into Lex territory.
The Deco has low/highpass filters too right(secondary finctions), guess that could make the sound darker. Would be nice to hear.
Had the deco shortly and the filter adjustments werent noticable. Too bad, could have added much to the pedal if they were.

If you go full wet, does it make good tape vibrato sounds? Like can I get gen lossy tones? I’m trying to make my signal sound like the echoes without having echoes, but I don’t have the pedal to test it out.
Yes it can, and it sounds really good in my opinion. The only problem is that the delay time doesn’t go short enough so you’ll always feel latency at full wet settings. It sounds better and more lo-fi as you increase the delay time. It can work great for recording but you can’t use it live as a vibrato.
