I watch far too many sailing channels which either are in the Med or crossing over to the Caribbean or from the states to the Caribbean and to be honest it’s getting boring watching the same old places just different faces, so what a fantastic breath of fresh air YOUR CHANNEL IS. This is proper sailing with proper sailors.
That penguin riding that huge wave onto the rock was one of the coolest things I've ever seen any animal do. It was so graceful considering the circumstance. So good at reading the water.
My wife and I were thrilled to be able to visit South Georgia last February including St. Andrews Bay and Prion Island. When we past Shag Rocks we were treated to a sighting of 2 Blue Whales. I we were glad to be aboard a 100 meter ship. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Hello! It was a great surprise to read that someone has ventured this way and so recently too! We were in SG in Feb so perhaps we were there around the same time! We heard that there had been a sighting of blue whales and couldn’t believe it! Ted Cheeseman onboard was really hoping we would see them! But they evaded us! Thank you for sharing your SG adventure :)) Sophie 🌊🙂

Hi Bill! Thank you for your lovely comment. We were just so pleased to read that you particularly enjoyed the Larsen Harbour scene as that is Chris’s favourite! And one of my favourite anchorages :)) Thank you again for commenting, Sophie 🙂🙂
I really enjoyed this video. The albatross dance was spectacular. It's marvellous that you are able to follow you passion. Thanks so much for sharing Mike
Hi Mike, Thank you for your comment and I loved reading that you enjoyed the albatross footage! We have so much but we tried to keep it fairly short! However we will be editing short films on individual specific animals ie gentoo penguins/ king penguins/ wandering albatross etc for the Animal Lovers on here! They will come out over the next couple of months:)) Many thanks again, Sophie:)
Sophie, Cris, thank you for the glimpse at the clearance and beauty of the south. You are contributing another sight on the variety of seas. Reading your comment below I was thinking “No! Don’t keep it short!! I want to see more!” Although I know how much time editing films takes, please let us take part more in the daily life on board. Your sailing skills must be tremendous, letting us take part would not be considered bragging. Is this a Bestevaer you’re sailing? How could you afford such a boat at your age? How does the interior look (loved your excursion to the “fridge”). How much time do you spend on maintenance? How much condensation water does the temperature gap produce? So many questions...
Hello CK! Thank you for your very kind comment! We don’t own Pelagic Australis - that would be a dream if we did! We are employed as Skipper & Mate onboard. Skip Novak is the owner and our boss :)) She is a Tony Castro design and built in 2003 in Durban. Glad to hear you liked seeing the fridge! Initially we were not intending on making films and I only videoed to send footage back to my parents. But after my Dad edited the South Georgia film and we got such positive feedback we decided to produce some more from my slightly dodgy filming. With that in mind- most of my footage was of penguins and icebergs. Since the interest in the films we decided to document more on the sailing side of it too and hope that we can feature that more in future films:)) I hope that all makes sense! Any other feedback you can suggest we would gratefully appreciate it:) Many thanks again, Sophie 🙂🌊

Hello Stephen! Thank you for your comment. There is actually a film about PA on our YT page where Skip Novak himself gives a tour- it’s very good & worth a watch. We are employed by Skip as Skipper & Mate. Pelagic is not our boat but we have been working for Skip for about 20 months. Prior to this we were both working as Skippers for Clipper & other freelance gigs. I hope that answers some of your questions! Truly remarkable watching you sail and explore on a level that distinguishes your channel from other content on youtube. Thank you so much for entertaining and inspiring by sharing your adventures. It’s really mesmerizing footage and stories. Can hardly wait for the next video.

Put me to tears seeing the albatross pair's ritual, knowing how precarious their situation is,generally as a species. I'd like to think that humanity will be part of the solution instead of been the cause of albatross becoming extinct. Fantastic film as always and thank you so much guys.🙏🙏👍
Hi Fraser - great comment, in that we love to read others are so moved by the Albatross. To respond to your comment about humanity helping the Albatross… do watch our 2 Gough Island films - where we sail a team of scientists to the remote island as they set out on a well orchestrated quest to save the albatross & other indigenous seabirds… their work is remarkable- I think you will greatly appreciate it:)) And we got some beautiful footage of the Albatross in Part 2:) Thanks again for your comment. Sophie and Chris, I just watched both episodes of your magnificent voyage to the South Sandwich Islands. This is great stuff!! Congratulations on your accomplishments. In your videos, it all looks pretty easy, but for sure this has been a very demanding voyage that required a great deal of preparation and experience. Also, you have such an endearing way of sharing your experiences ... it makes all the difference. I wish you all the best and hope to see more from you in the future. Best regards from Brasil ... ;-)
Hello Markus all the way in Brazil! Thank you for your kind comment :) We have our next film out next week (it’s been a bit delayed due to our work schedule). It’s about sailing to Gough Island in the middle of the South Atlantic. I hope you enjoy it also:) Thank you again for your kind words, Sophie 🌊🙂

“Sitting in this protected anchorage we can finally relax” you say as we now see you wearing a bulletproof vest 🤣 great video. I wish you guys the best
Hello Delavan! Thank you! That made me laugh about the bagpipes! You are the first to mention them- I’m glad to hear you like it as so far the only feedback we’ve had about the bagpipes music was from my parents and they didn’t like it so much! (Which surprised me with my mums Scottish heritage! 😄). That scene in Larsen Harbour with the music is Chris’s favourite:)) Thank you again! Sophie 🌊
Again stunning, i was interested to see how far the glacier had melted i thought you might have shown that, going from glacier to where it used to be on the old shoreline. Didn't look like there was much of it left. Do you ever take crew?? in a past life i crewed on anaconda 2 a hundred footer that was an old sydney to hobart race boat all around the Whitsundays taking english backpackers out to the reef for 3day trips did that for a few years. You guy's are fast becoming my number 1 sailing channel real sailing around the wild southern ocean and it's magnificent animals and islands, fair winds and following seas
Hello! It's great to have a message from a fellow sailor and it sounds like you have spent quite a bit of time on the water! We do sometimes take on a 3rd crew member- however, the coming season down in Antarctica is all on hold due to covid. Chris and I also work for other companies that take on crew too! Yes it was very hard to see that the glacier had restreated so much. We had the head of the Climate Change department at Maine University onboard, Paul Mayewski (he has a few books written about it). He was running the glaciology project onboard. Thank you for your comment and feedback:)) It is greatly appreciated! I hope you keep on sailing:) You have sailed in parts of the world I would love to experience! Sophie
New to your channel. I watched part I and now part II. You did a great job. I even recommended this to my other favorite channel: Sailing Uma. Have a Magical Day!
Thank you so very much 🙂 we are really glad to hear you enjoyed it enough to share it ☺️ our next film will be out next week where we sailed to Gough island 🙂🌊
I heard you say you're new to YT and figuring it out still - well you're doing a mighty fine job! Love what you're doing - I wish there was more .. I'm sure you had enough really cool footage to have made this journey into a few more than two parts. That's my only complaint - some of the scenes and locations you were in could have been much longer. In short we are just greedy and want more please!
Hi Richard! Thank you for your feedback:)) We were not sure how well received the wildlife & long landscape footage would be so we tried to keep it relatively short. However, it seems to be really enjoyed so we are looking at making more episodes in the future. So thank you for your suggestion 🙂 We are heading into the southern ocean in 2 days time to Marion Island so we endeavour to film much more 🌊🙂 Many thanks again, Sophie:))
Enjoyed these two videos, your filming was excellent, just need to get a bit more conversational! Really enjoyed the wild life especially the wandering Albatross, so lovely to just see and hear the animals without the incessant voice trying to make a dramatic story to match the pictures. Also you have a very purposeful vessel, will look to see more about you and it!
Hello Philip, Thanks for your feedback. It's very constructive for us! It makes me super happy to hear you enjoyed the albatross footage! We were stunned sitting there watching their performance. Yes, we felt that the albatross deserved nothing but some gentle music- I'm glad you appreciated that edit! A lot of the footage we filmed last year did not include filming each other or scenes together- we just filmed landscapes, wildlife & sailing. But we are learning to document life onboard and interactions between people and ourselves more- so I hope that improves over time! (and I hope we look less awkward over time too!) Many thanks again, Sophie:))
Hi Joachim, You are the first to comment about Chris’s accent! He’s from near Herford in Germany. Maybe it’s a similar accent to Vienna?! Thank you again, Sophie 🙂
Hi Geoffrey, Thank you for your comment & feedback. We looked into the issue with the links right away but we can't seem to solve the issue. I am sorry for this. We are just about to set sail into the southern ocean for 3-4 weeks so I don't think we will have time to sort out this issue before we go. I do hope you can find us somehow, if not when we get back we will try to rectify it and drop you a message! Thank you for putting a spotlight on the problem! Sophie:)
Sophie & Chris super well done. Love the videos and can’t wait to go some day. Be safe! PS - check your IG links in your description they link to non-existing pages.
You two are doing precisely the sort of cruising that I would love to do if my age and health permitted. Sadly that is not the case but I can certainly enjoy your experiences vicariously through yt. I really enjoyed the albatross ballet and would love to see any more if you have it! I remember David Attenborough also filmed the beautiful ritual some years ago but I can't remember where now except that it was on one of the Southern Ocean islands. I'm getting bored with the vacuous and seemingly endless supply of accounts of bumming around in the Caribbean without any sign of a purpose other than self-indulgence! But you two are actually facilitating important scientific research and that's both worthwhile and fascinating at the same time. Well done and keep on doing your good work!
Hi David, I hope this reply reaches you (I’m not sure how to tag people in replies?). Thank you for your kind comment. Yes we do have a lot more of the albatross footage- we just didn’t want to overload it on this film. However! We are putting together short films on the specific animals we observed for the wildlife lovers :)) and the great thing about the albatross dancing was the incredible noise they made too! We have recordings of that :)) We hope to have those films out in the next couple of months. The film that is being edited at the moment is our voyage to Gough Island, where we took a team of scientists and conservationists as they embark on a year long programme to eradicated the house mice that have been decimating the albatross population (eating them alive). It was a really important journey- and incredibly we were granted permission to land there and see the albatross nesting! I can’t wait to share this video:)) let us know any feedback you may have once it’s out (in the next 2 weeks). Thank you again, Sophie 🙂 🌊
@@seasandsummitsYes, I received your most interesting message - thank you. You're doing exactly what I would love to do if I wasn't confined to a wheelchair! I'm not so interested in the stereotypical image of the yachtie just bumming around the Caribbean totally self-absorbed in pleasure seeking activities. If I had a live-aboard boat (if only!) I would definitely want to offer it for the kind of work that you're doing! How rewarding to do conservation and research work and esp. with those kind of people! I look forward to the next video about the albatross and getting rid of the mice!

Also, you have such an endearing way of sharing your experiences ... it makes all the difference. I wish you all the best and hope to see more from you in the future.
Best regards from Brasil ... ;-)
Hello Markus all the way in Brazil!
Thank you for your kind comment :)
We have our next film out next week (it’s been a bit delayed due to our work schedule). It’s about sailing to Gough Island in the middle of the South Atlantic.
I hope you enjoy it also:)
Thank you again for your kind words,
Sophie 🌊🙂
I clicked "like" as soon as I saw Sophie's big smile... PS: Great background music... Matching the epic landscapes and seascapes.
Hello :)) thank you very much for commenting and your feedback! I’m very glad to hear you like the music as we really wanted it to be a part of the journey and not just a noise. 🙂
Thank you again,
Sophie ☺️🌊
@@seasandsummits wow I was not expecting any reply. You both are true pioneers and you both make me think of "Jacques Cousteau". If you are 'too young' to have known him look them up... My home location is 36.8570° S, 174.7860° E It's a B&B if ever you are in Auckland NZ call in.
@@blommaertbart3224 hi Bart! Thank you for your second reply! Yes Custeou is a name we are familiar with 🙂😊. Oh my, it’s Chris’s dream to go to NZ !!! He talks about it all the time and shows me photos from the internet! You live in such a beautiful part of the world:)
Thank you for watching our films from so far away 🙂
Sophie 🌊
Amazing video, thank you so much for posting. 👍👍👍
THX so much for your brilliant clips!!!
Thank you for watching! 🙂🙂
Epic and unique channel. Thanks guys 👍
Hi Christopher,
Thank you for writing to us with your comment! And for watching 😊
Sophie 🌊🙂
Please keep doing these videos. Love what you've done so far, it's a bit different than other sailing channels. Also you're a very charming couple :)
Thank you for your comment :))
Our next film is out next week- it’s about sailing the remote Gough Island. I hope you get an opportunity to watch it 🙂
Sophie☺️
It would be great if you post more often.
We are working on editing this summer :) as yet we have been too busy at sea and had sporadic internet connections. Our next film will be out next week about sailing to Gough Island ! 🙂
Thank you for sharing.
“Sitting in this protected anchorage we can finally relax” you say as we now see you wearing a bulletproof vest 🤣 great video. I wish you guys the best
Beautiful, as always. Really liked the bagpipe music (never thought I'd ever say that, ha ha just kidding, sort of).
😄). That scene in Larsen Harbour with the music is Chris’s favourite:))
Thank you again!
Sophie 🌊
another wonderful video ! thanks for sharing
Hello again:)
Thank you for your comment, it is appreciated :)
Sophie 🌊
Very much like the video's - Thanks.
Hi David! Thank you for watching :)) I hope you enjoy our other releases,
Sophie:)
You guy's are fast becoming my number 1 sailing channel real sailing around the wild southern ocean and it's magnificent animals and islands,
fair winds and following seas
Sophie
Modern day Jacques Cousteau adventures - Great channel, new to youtube? great production.
Stunning ⛵️❤️
Great story telling, made me shiver some! LOL
stunning footage and trip, thanks. distant shores yt did episode likely about same boat builder of australis.
So good you are sharing..really enjoyed this vid. Thanks
Hi Frances,
Thank you for watching and for leaving a messag for us. We are super pleased to hear nice feedback!
Sophie :))
Wow I've gotta sail down there beautiful is a under statement
Great,keep it up.thank you
Thank you for writing a comment of support:))
Sophie 🌊
Great post!
Hi Chris and Sophie! I really like your videos. And Pelagic Australis too. She is a strong and seaworthy boat. But what is her P, E, I and J?
Thank you :)
Hi Richard! Thank you for your feedback:))
We were not sure how well received the wildlife & long landscape footage would be so we tried to keep it relatively short. However, it seems to be really enjoyed so we are looking at making more episodes in the future. So thank you for your suggestion 🙂
We are heading into the southern ocean in 2 days time to Marion Island so we endeavour to film much more 🌊🙂
Many thanks again,
Sophie:))
(and I hope we look less awkward over time too!)
Many thanks again,
Sophie:))
Wuaoooo!!!!
Thank you Nel!!
😃🌊
Beautiful. Very interesting. How large is your yacht and how many crew do you need sail with it?
75 meter 5
You should get more drone shots of the boat at sea.
That’s on our list to buy 🙂🙂
@@seasandsummits love that ladder on the mast, no need for drones if you're a bit of a daredevil. Lol Beautiful boat.
Great Adventure, really supercool boat and fantastic skippers !
I love your videos !
Btw, is Chris Austrian ? (Sounds like Vienna )
Hi Joachim,
You are the first to comment about Chris’s accent! He’s from near Herford in Germany. Maybe it’s a similar accent to Vienna?!
Thank you again,
Sophie 🙂
Please do keep posting
Thank you, our next film will be out next week about sailing to Gough Island 🙂
@@seasandsummits great!!
@@seasandsummits still waiting :-)
Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing. Your links to instagram and facebook are not working for me.
Hi Geoffrey,
Thank you for your comment & feedback.
Hi Lars - ah ok thanks for the heads up !
Very glad you enjoy the films and yes hope you get there one day too 😃
You two are doing precisely the sort of cruising that I would love to do if my age and health permitted.
Hi David,
I hope this reply reaches you (I’m not sure how to tag people in replies?).
Thank you for your kind comment. Yes we do have a lot more of the albatross footage- we just didn’t want to overload it on this film. However! We are putting together short films on the specific animals we observed for the wildlife lovers :)) and the great thing about the albatross dancing was the incredible noise they made too! We have recordings of that :))
We hope to have those films out in the next couple of months.
Thank you again,
Sophie 🙂 🌊
@@seasandsummitsYes, I received your most interesting message - thank you. You're doing exactly what I would love to do if I wasn't confined to a wheelchair! I'm not so interested in the stereotypical image of the yachtie just bumming around the Caribbean totally self-absorbed in pleasure seeking activities. If I had a live-aboard boat (if only!) I would definitely want to offer it for the kind of work that you're doing! How rewarding to do conservation and research work and esp. with those kind of people! I look forward to the next video about the albatross and getting rid of the mice!
I’m not saying it’s a bad thing but it looks like this channel’s color grading and graphics was inspired by Erik Aanderaa 😊
I don’t know exactly what grading is but I agree
Are there any fish there? Could you cast a line?
how many are there the scientist on your yacht? what kind of research are they doing?
Fantastic videos guys. The scenery and wildlife was spectacular. I would love to visit one day but it’s not so easy. That bread looked amazing Sophie, what’s the recipe? Andy UK
how about a boat toor. would realy like to see the layout of a good ocean sailing boat

Everyone else on RUclips is in the sun in the Caribbean while you guys are doing some serious sailing in the south. Literally the most extreme sailing on RUclips. I don't want to be critical because you are doing an awesome job but the quality when you interviewing Sophie inside seemed not so good. Inspiring sailing folks. Keep safe.
Awesome videos.
Most excellent, my new favorite sailing channel. And I really appreciate your reverence for nature. You are both so capable and seem to work so well together.
Thank you kindly! It was very nice to read your comments this morning 🌞
Thank you 😊

I love how genuine and relatable you are. Thanks for posting.
I can not tell you how much I enjoy your videos.
Actually excellent falls short very well done on your fine workmanship to you both. Outstanding to be sure
Hello again! And thank you for your comment - it is greatly appreciated :))

Kia Ora enjoying your videos while isolating with C19; it's the best distraction; the footage of the albatross was especially impressive they are beautiful birds and so at ease in that climate.
