Antonio's, Breakfast at Antonio's, Balay Dako... Will good food and view...
Tried Mahogany Market on a rainy evening last year. My first time, and I didn't know yet that you can just pick on the bananas on each table and eat your heart out. The staff told us about it and even handed me a plastic bag to pick on some more to take home. 😍

I've been to that same Bulalohan in Tagaytay. Love bulalo especially when the weather is chilly.
ps. Try Tawilis. It is a fish (sardines) that can only be found in Taal Lake, the lake you see from Tagaytay.

ALSO, soil in PH are so rich in nutrients that almost all the produce sold are organically grown and grown locally. here in the US, we think we live better lives but we really dont when it comes to a stress free life and better food. I eat better, i feel better and happier when I'm in PH. In the US, we eat junk food and eating heathy organic food is a luxury, while in PH, eating healthy is the norm and junk food is THE luxury.

Glad to see you’re discovering new fruits. Chico, Guyabano (sour sop) are just delicious 😋. Mike, what you said about the rabbits is just hilarious 😂 . I want to comment about the prices in Legaspi village vs. a wet market anywhere. If you haven’t noticed yet BGC, Legaspi village or Makati are areas for the upper strata of the population therefore there prices in these areas are also high. Wet markets are typical lower because they are for the masses. But beef in Tagaytay and Batangas are cheaper too compared to other wet markets. Bulalo is so good any day but exceptionally good in cold weather 😋 Now you made me crave for it lol 🍽❤️❤️❤️

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to hunt for the 'atis' fruit. Described as a divine or heavenly fruit by westerners because of its exquisite taste and texture, it is known as custard apple or sweetsop in English. It is part of the anonacea family, to which soursop (guayabano), anonas, and cherimoya all belong. I don't know if Magnolia Ice Cream still carries its Atis Glacé, flavor-of-the-month ice cream, but it's a classic favorite. The atis fruit is usually very sweet and creamy (hence the reference to custard in its descriptive name), so if you happened to taste one that doesn't impress you (particularly when it's not ripe yet), try a ripe sample in another fruit stand. You will be pleasantly rewarded.
One time, I overheard two local passengers on a bus here in Chicago, discussing custard apple. The one who was recently on an Asian tour, was describing the fruit to his friend, only in the most superlative of terms. I was tempted to butt in and tell more about this fruit. We used to have an atis tree when i was a child. Its flower is peculiarly unlike any other.

Tips on what to buy in Mahogany that are incredibly lower than wet market and supermarket prices in Manila. 1. Salad greens - a huge 1 kilo bag of romaine lettuce sells for 170 pesos, in the supermarket you can get this at 90 pesos for 4 tiny bunches... 😒
    2. Beef shank for bulalo - there's a 150 peso price difference from wet market prices in Manila (fun fact: some wet market stalls in Manila even buy in Mahogany 😉)
    3. Steak cuts- I don't know where it is at exactly but we were able to get some rib-eye and T-bone steaks there for half the price than what is sold in Manila supermarkets.
    3. Pineapple - probably the best in Luzon (I'm bias, the one's we have in Mindanao are the best for me... 😊)
    4. A unique variety of banana called Señorita - its sold by the branch... Yes, you read it right, by the branch. This sweet, tiny bananas are sold in small bunches still attached to the branch. What's very peculiar about these bananas is that whenever you see them at the stalls they are beautifully arranged on the branch, but once you buy them and load them up in your car, when you get to Manila you'd be lucky to see if there are still some of those bananas clinging to the branch... 😊

We also like the bulalo and food in Viewpoint Inn. It’s along the main road. You’ll drive past the original/Main Branch of Bag Of Beans and it should be our on your left going towards Lemery. Enjoy the search for the best Bulalo. 👍

Mike and Nelly check out the Farmers Market in Cubao early in the am daily. You will find better quality and cheaper prices for almost anything edible over there. Best of all its only 1/2 hour away from Salcedo Village. God bless you both and enjoy living in the happiest place on the planet!
