MN DNR ~ RARE Bald Eagle DUAL BROODING Of Chicks! Mom Pushes E2 Underneath Her Protecting From Rain!

- Опубликовано: 13 окт 2024
- April 6th 2021 ~ This was amazing to watch live as Mom and Dad DNR will both brood an eaglet protecting them from the rain! Dad is on the nest with the kids when the weather starts to turn bad and rain showers begin. He broods the oldest chick but the youngest is outside the nest bowl and can't get shelter under Dad. For the next 22 minutes, the youngest chick tries to get under Dad but can't so it snuggles up against him. You can see how conflicted Dad is - his instincts are telling him to keep brooding & yet he wants to get up to let the little baby get underneath. The chick's downy feathers are soaking wet - they both are still too young to have their 2nd coat of thermal down yet and can not thermoregulate so they must be protected from the elements.
Mom flies in to the nest at 12:21 and she immediately sees the plight of the wet baby! She pushes the eaglet underneath her and then the chick climbs the rest of the way under the warm and soft brood patch of Mom! Ahhhh so much better!!! ♥♥ Mom broods the youngest chick while Dad broods the oldest during the rain storm - this does not happen very often and is really amazing to watch. This is even more special knowing that Dad is a young first time Father and sub adult who has no experience in raising a family! Many times we have seen the female eagle trying to brood and shelter two chicks and sometimes nature is harsh and one chick will not make it due to hypothermia. Other times, one eaglet will get left out of the nest bowl and won't survive. Thankfully Mom came to the rescue!! When Dad gets up to leave, Mom will go to brood her other chick and the youngest will also climb right under her! Thank you for watching!

Mom laid egg#1 on Feb. 15th 2021 & egg#2 on Feb 20th. Egg #1 hatched on March 26th 2021 & egg #2 hatched on March 28th at 3:24 PM.
Love mum's reaction...looks like she's giving dad the evil eye and saying 'what are you doing??? leave you alone with the kids for 10 minutes and I come back to chaos!!!'
LOL Pipsqueak...I was thinking the same thing!
I honestly feel he seemed concerned, that he just didn't know what to do. He kept looking at the poor little thing laying there, but I don't think he knew what to do about it.
Today has been quite a surprise for us. Both E's doing a Heraldic pose together and now watching these two adults brooding their chicks during the rain. What a magnificent day it has been.
My heart fills with compassion for this family and all eagles. Survival is a challenge for them and they look after their young better than some humans. ❤
Doesn’t seem the case here.
I was watching this live and I was saying out loud "he doesn't know how to get the other baby under him." You could see he didn't want to get up and uncover the baby he was protecting. You could see the conflict in his face. He wanted to get both of them under him. I was relieved to see mom come and make another cup in the nest. That baby couldn't get under mom fast enough. It was beautiful and nerve racking. It's been a real learning experience watching this new daddy. Please be safe and well everyone.🦅♥️🦅♥️💜🦅🦅💜
Thank you, Edison, for this post.
When he hopped off the nest and took off, Mom was probably asking- where do you think you're going, Mr and he said...to the video store
@@mooonienelson2126 Funny moonie! 😂
It is impossible not to be moved by these impressive images! I confess that I cried with emotion when I saw the baby trying to find shelter from the rain on Dad's body. And when Mom pulled her precious baby under her and warmed him with her hot body. The baby struggled bravely to survive, before his Mom saved him. These images show us what a loving and caring mother does for her children. Yes, this is maternal love. It is not simply instinct. Mother is mother and she always comes to the aid of her children. Thank you so much for sharing those incredible moments of maternal love and parental care, Lady Hawk. 😍💕💗❤️💕
You are very welcome and I am very glad to see this special dual brooding! Mom was not wasting any time - she pulled her baby close to her - the instinct to protect very strong!! What an incredible moment!!
This is hard to watch. I haven't gotten to where mom comes to the rescue. I keep wanting dad to move his tail over chick #2, but sadly know he won't. Lady Hawk writes the best descriptions of her videos! I'm going to fast forward the video to watch mom arrive. Have a blessed week.
@@christineh4782 It is great to know the outcome of an otherwise stressful situation. I was watching live and there is nothing we can do but hope that something happens because we know that being wet and cold - hypothermia could quickly set in. I was so happy to see Mom and see her take control of the situation like she did!!
@@christineh4782 Hi Christine! This incredible rescue is imprinted forever on my soul and heart. These are incredible moments like these that make me have appreciation, respect and deep reverence for animals and even more for Our Creator. God bless you and yours. 💕🌹🌹
@@christineh4782 had to fast forward myself or I was gonna reach through the screen and yank his tail feathers
Lucky turn of events for this youngster! Mom comes to the rescue to save the day. The rule book gets defied yet again! 🧡
Wow! This is amazing 😯 I've never seen both eagle parents brood eaglets at the same time before.
No kidding! Very cool
Mum and Dad are an exceptional pair of eagles. Never seen this before. Dad called Mum when the rain started. He knew there was going to be a problem. Well done eagle family and LH for putting out there.❤️🦅🦅🐣🐣🇦🇺
Yes he was calling for her to come back! They know when the weather is going to turn suddenly too. They both are exceptional parents! I have watched a lot of nests over the years and have only seen one other eagle couple both stay on the nest when there is inclement weather so this is indeed a remarkable display by both parents!!!
@@ladyhawk thanks for your reply. It gives us mere humans some indication of the future of this nest. Dad is proving his worth, and to Mum that he is a keeper.
I don't know if anybody also as well watches big bear bald Eagles actually touching sad story for them this season. By the way Ladyhawke you're an amazing human soul
@@ladyhawk absolutely phenomenal footage and so awesome
@@crystalcurtis3176 Thank you so much! I have watched Big Bear since the cams went live and to see them try so hard in that difficult climate is really sad and yet inspiring at the same time! Eagles can adapt to their environment - it would be really amazing if they could learn to dual brood there during the harsh snow storms.
Dad DNR, So wanderful and unique you were....RIP......
"Come on Dad! It's cold & wet out here!!" Mom to the rescue!
I don’t believe we see the eagle parents nudge their eaglets with the parent’s beak to half move them and half encourage them to move very often. That was so interesting too.
Talk about smart, loving eagle parents! This was amazing to watch with Mother Nature at her best🦅
Young dad watched intently, now he knows. What a great video, thank you.
Yes he has learned so much already and now he knows he can share brooding responsibilities with Mom!! The chicks will have a better chance at survival if the weather turns and they need both parents on the nest protecting them. It makes me think about Big Bear. I wonder if Cookie would be alive today if Shadow had been on the nest over night brooding along side Jackie? Of course it is not very common to see the dual brooding and even more rare overnight.
@@ladyhawk Yes with Cookie at Big Bear, at the time I asked the question why dad did not come to nest to help sheltering but seems no answer.
@@canadiandream5525 I think it is because the female is the main parent for brooding and almost always at night. With the snow and freezing rain at Big Bear they shared responsibilities but never did them jointly.
Thanks LadyHawk for reply. Nature is nature,it is not running by our wish.
@@ladyhawk
I mentioned on your video of Harriet and M dual brooding that both BBB -2018 & Cookie - 2019 lives would have been spared. And what a tremendously blessed event to watch both fledge with their nest siblings!
Gorgeous pair - great bond to both each other and their eaglets. Nature is what to watch when the world is getting you down.
What wonderful advice! I agree! 😻
OMG mom said come on baby momma got you. Seam to check dad for leaving the baby out in the rain. 💜
That was fascinating, mom to the rescue.
This mother and father is soooooo into his babies. I luv it!!!!
Very endearing how much they love their babies. Thank you LH for showing this rare video. As Harriet and M15 will go down in history as well 🙏🏻😘❣️
This is wonderful to see. Also to know that a young inexperienced Dad has the right instinct to protect his eaglets. Thank you, Lady Hawk!
Waaooooo!! This parents are both great,
But mama it's out of this world , wonderful! wonderful creatures 🙏❤
Thanks you very much Lady hawk 😘❤
Wonderful parents!! 💞🦅🐥💞🦅🐥💞❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
How wonderful see these eagles simultaneously caring for the chicks. Dad is still learning so much. He is terrified of hurting the babies. Stay well mum and dad, I gather you also have problems with foolish gun folk. It is wonderful to be able to view their chick rearing. Thank you.
This video is incredible Lady Hawk. I had tears streaming down. I love watching this young family 💖
This was a special moment for sure!! I am so glad we all got to witness it!!
Heart warming family
It's funy when dad gets up and mom it's so confused, when she seesed the other baby right there 😅🥰🙏
Thank you Lady Hawk for sharing this beautiful video with everyone. 🙂💕 You always manage to capture the magic of nature on video for all of to enjoy.
Doesn't she thou. I always look for her videos, and I love her Titles as well.
Thank you John!!! I am so glad you got to watch this special moment!!
@@sandrareed3033 Thank you for your kind words Sandra!!! ♥♥
Great catch of awesome parenting!
And thank you LH for telling the story in the description! Your writing was a pleasure to read!
Beautiful young family to watch and love over the years. I'm happy to have found this young family. God does good work
Everyday our DNR Eagles bring us new adventures. This was amazing.
Lady Hawk,
I AM ALREADY balling MY eyes out!... Haven't even pressed play yet... Only reading your description of event and 1/4th of tHa comments!
Amazing Lady Hawk. Just in the nick of time Mom shows up to save her little one. ❤️
Mother nature is so amazing! Thank you for the fantastic video.
It always amazes me on how the Bald Eagle parents take care of their young. Sweet video thanks.
Amazing how this beautiful parents love and take care the baby’s blessed to the precious baby’s and gorgeous parents 🦅🙏🦅🙏🦅🙏🦅🙏
Love this 💕mom filling in any cold spot under her to keep her and baby warm smart 👍🏽🦅
GOD, I love eagles.
Wow. This is wonderful to watch. Learning something new every day with all our amazing eagles. 🦅 ❤️
Such a sweet moment ❤️🦅 thank you for sharing 😘
So interesting and smart. I’ve often wondered why they didn’t do this at Big Bear when all 3, then 2 couldn’t fit under mom n the snow storm. Thanks Lady Hawk!! Truly fascinating!
@ Lori Dori...
In your comment you stated "I've often wondered why they did this at Big Bear when all 3, then 2 couldn't fit under mom n the snow storm.
Which (3) are you referring to? Which (2) are you referring to?
I know 'mom' is "Jackie".
2018- Stormy & BBB (R.I.P.) -Jackie & Mr.B-
2019- Simba & Cookie(R.I.P.) - Jackie & Shadow
2020- unviable eggs
2021- (2)-unviable 🥚(1st clutch) (3)-unviable 🥚 (2nd clutch)
2022- Spirit & "Eggbert"(Spirit's nest sibling)
Thank You
I cant wait to watch this when I get home from work 🥰🥰
Thank you Lady Hawk for the written introduction and wonderful video.
You are very welcome Sharon!! Thanks for watching!
This double-brooding would be helpful in the Big Bear nest.
That younger chick had no desire to be cold again - when mum got up to brood the elder one it moved over very quickly!
Beautiful moment ❤️ little one is doing great this morning 🌸💙 thank you mom and dad
This is the 1st time I’ve seen this. That’s awesome! Dad is young. Reminded me of Shadow. Mom had everything under control. TY Lady Hawk. Another wonderful vid you shared. Wow! Amazing...
Very good capture and description, Lady Hawk. We get frequent questions about dual brooding. My answer has always been that they just don't seem to but there are lots of BAEA nests and I would not be surprised if it does happen occasionally. Very good that you could document it.
How many times have we witnessed the demise of a young eaglet escaping the nest bowl and unable to return while we are begging the parent to use its beak to nudge it back to safety - all to no avail? This is so fascinating to watch, Mom using that sharp, deadly beak to gently coax E1 under her. Wow, just wow, Lady Hawk!
This season it happened at the Berry nest and that turned out tragically! Mom was spot on with that gentle but forceful nudge and the chick was only too happy to oblige!!
Thanks Lady Hawk what a special surprise.
Eagles are such amazing parents I mean wildlife in general is so extraordinary absolutely phenomenal. Can you imagine living in a world where we had seven up to 50 different sounds or syllables but yet we understood each other so we didn't have a dictionary every other month? What a difference that would be on our psyche
In the past couple of days here, there have been some major thunderstorms with driving rain and hail. It's great to see that they weathered these storms safely. The forecast calls for more of the same for the next couple of days.
Imagine casting vote for "Best New Parents of the Year"? Imagine how hard that would be? Oooyyy! Thanks, Lady Hawk for your videos.
Well, we have seen everything now Lady Hawk!💕🦅🦅
Awesome video. The male eagle helps awesome parents ❤❤❤
That was Awesome!!!!!!! thank you. made my whole day a lot brighter
Hey Dana!!! Nice to see you again!
Amazing! Thank you Lady Hawk!
It's a beautiful display of parenting, protection! I love that we can witness this event ... dual brooding. I've only seen three vids of it. Not that I am expert. I learn from all your knowledge. It's incredible. Thank you.
💗 New dad hasn't learned the art of the poptent yet.
Maybe he will ♥♥
@@ladyhawk I'm sure of it. He's doing a great job learning 😀
WOW!! This was amazing--gave me goosebumps when Mom came in & moved her baby under her!
I wonder what Dad was saying to his baby at 10:39 That was touching to see him communicating
w/his little one!! Beautiful & extraordinary footage LH--thank you for capturing this. :-) -Hugs
Yes wasn't that amazing? I don't know what Dad was saying to the little one but the chick was saying hey Dad pull up on your wing and let me slide in there!!! I am glad you got to see this since this is the first and coverage I have gotten of a dual brooding!!! I hope we see this again here!! Take care and SED!
Wow wonderful to see, thank you for sharing!
From what I saw in many years of animal watching most of them were as much better parents as most of human parents!! Just had to say it clearly and that's the reason why I love most animals more than most of humans as far as I know them!! 👍💞 And even he is a first - time - dad his instincts tell him very clearly what to do and he does very well and with a warm Father's heart ♥️ty both mom and dad 🙏
Amazing and beautiful! What a great mom!
This was amazing to watch.Thank you.Such good parents. You can see them trying to figure out what to do
Thanks for sharing this Lady Hawk! Beautiful moment indeed! I would have missed this for sure! I think this was back when I thought DNR meant “Decorah north” so I wasn’t watching this nest because I was watching decorah north videos and so I thought I had already always been up to date with them- little did I know it was 2 different nests
Oh my!! LOL well there are so many special moments like this one if you have some extra time to check my playlist MN DNR eagles 2021. I really loved how Dad being so young took to incubating these eggs right away and he was there was E1 hatched!!! And he got to feed them finally (Mom was pretty protective)!! He loved to brood them and would stay on the nest for many hours...he was a real nest potato like M15 - loving those Daddy duties ♥♥
Love this. I did hold my breath even though I knew it would turn out well.
It is so amazing how the Mom got both chicks under her! Thanks to MN DNR for this cam.
Thank you Lady Hawk! I have never seen this either. So glad mom flew in quickly and gave dad a lesson on How to Move Your Baby as he intently watched. Mom seems to have some stern words for first time dad. Very thankful this turned out so well.
This nest is in a lovely location. I heard a male voice call to his child to get on the porch. Is this nest in a neighborhood?
Hi Christine - there is a lake right below the nest and a road & homes so there are people close by that we can hear from the cam.
Love Jedi & Mara , he is so young yet doing fantastic! Thank you for this! 😉😊
Wow! Wonderful to watch this! Thanks so much Lady Hawk.
Wow am new to this nest and this couple is amazing. The Mom is a most stunning eagle! 💖. Looked like the baby said, dad just lift your wing and then Dad watching what mom did, like oh nicely done
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL... reminds me of a particularly rough night when Gabby sheltered Legacy through the night in gale force winds and a torrential downpour
Wow, that was scary and a very long 22 minutes! I love watching this new, young Dad learn and grow...this was some tough learning for sure! I found myself praying tho this was your video and not live. So thankful this rare happening happened when it did! Thank God, Mom is more experienced. and baby has spunk! Thanks Lady Hawk
This is so interesting - thank you for the wonderful compentary.
All I can say is awwwwww! That is the sweetest thing Ive ever seen.
That was amazing! I have never seen that before. Thank you for capturing this special moment, especially for the new dad... good job!
You are welcome!!
Mom is making sure this little chic survives Super teamwork 💕💕
Awwww Lady Hawk, that is just too sweet for words. What good parents!!
Hey TJ I am so glad you got to see this amazing footage!!!! They are both great parents and she is young as well!
Awww so amazing! Never seen this before
Great video & great seasoned Mom. Smart chick also that it knew to follow Mom to stay under her. We have seen too many times when one gets left out in the cold only to succumb to the elements.
Simply beautiful and heartwarming. Sending love to these birds and their little ones all the way from Holland they really touched my heart. Thank you Lady Hawk for sharing all these lovely images with us.
Hello and greetings to you!!! Thanks for stopping by and watching this amazing eagle family!!!!!
That is awesome. First time to see that. Sounds like the Dad is calling Mom to come and help him.
Wow! That made me feel good. How sweet are these 2!! Great teamwork.
What a wonderful subadult dad. He reminds me of Shadow at the Big Bear nest that became an amazing dad right in front of viewers eyes. The look and interactions of this bonded pair is unforgettable. Was this the nest that took care of Malaila the COHA chic? This like the one of Harriet and M15 on 1/13/23, has captured a very special moment at the nest. Thank you so much Lady Hawk. God bless this amazing Eagle Family. 🦅🙏
Awesome mom for helping keep the little one dry!!
She really is a great Mom! Dad and her make a great team!
This is amazing how wonderful they are!
Dear God such a good Mommy. Love it
She cover one baby not the other one.Babies look great. I wish I can hold it. My big dream to hug & kiss and eagle. Before I died.❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏
Well this was great to watch!! Great teamwork!!
Wow !! Nature is amazing....
The mom looks gorgeous!
He so cute, a young father 🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wow - smart mum and... smart chick!
Incredible parenting 🦅👍🥰
This is so awesome to see, Lady Hawk! 😻. Timeless and priceless footage! 😻
Is this the mom that is currently raising the one eaglet? Is this the dad that went missing?
I just fell in love with these two! ❤️❤️
Looks like mama has that brooding down.
Unbelievable but believable. Thank you , good stuff.
Bald Eagles all have personalities and maturities to come to be, as with any living being with a brain. All nests observe these things we think are so unusual, in a time frame, but maybe more "usual" than we think. If you walk with the wild, you see many of these moments. Every day. Thanks for sharing. A moment in an Eagles life. Very common.
Love this ❤
She made hubby leave! He was so comfy, and so was baby.
Super cool!!
Touching moments. 🥰. Where’s this location- lots of traffic near by.......
It is in Minneapolis MN - there is a road close by and also a pond with running water!
Thanks for the info. Kewl nest and family.
this bird is such a good dad.... how come mom only kept one warm and ignoring the other chick?
At tHa beginning, only Papa (1st time @fatherhood) was on tHa nest with both chicks. Then when it was raining harshly, his instinct knew to keep tHa Eaglet under him, but kept looking at tHa one in tHa rain. He just didn't know how to get it under him to stay dry without fear of losing tHa other he had already contained. Then Mama came to nest, accessed situation and moved Eaglet with her beak towards her so she could brood it. (tHa chick she kept with her had been exposed out in tHa rain for over 20 mins), while tHa chick Papa was brooding, was dry tHa whole time. Mama was saving her Eaglet from dying!
@@janajamer734 Good explanation. I’m curious about an oddity in your text. Everywhere the word “the” is expected, the non-word “tHa” appears. I’m not picking on you, as everything else makes sense. I’m just truly curious. The only thing I can imagine is your autocorrect has stored the wrong spelling for the word “the” (tHa) and inserts it in your text in place of what you actually typed. Moving on…
