    The outdoor dining was supposed to only be a Covid thing. So people will be out in fresh air, as compared to an e closed restaurant.
    How are these restaurants acting like they were getting by before this? This was only used as a deterent because social distancing didn't low people inside for those times. But those times are over, and nothing in NYC is free.

    They should adjust the fees according to the density and foot traffic of the area. Like the Astoria restaurant said it becomes cost prohibitive for smaller restaurants. The rat issue is because trash is placed on the ground. That is abating with the use of mandatory trash bins. Outdoor dining really makes a neighborhood feel homely. I hope they find ways to amend the program so that it is equitable.

If that doesn't show you how bad Big Government is, I don't know what will. They're literally making up new BS regulations to squeeze more money out of these people. The COVID regulations were already fine as is, and allowed the restaurants to increase their profit margins, which meant higher tax revenue anyway. But since NYC is poorly managed, the government BLOWS through all that cash and now needs to find NEW ways to generate money in existing industries and things. It's why we also have "Congestion Pricing" under the guise of "The environment".

    @k29king1 Месяц назад +25

    Outdoor dining areas around the city take up a lot of parking space and in some cases actually occupy parts of bike lanes. So cars with no other space park in bike lanes making it exceptionally dangerous for users of micromobility by shrinking the roads and in some cases forcing bikers into lanes of traffic. Some dining areas also make it hard for emergency responders to find space to park to respond to emergencies without blocking oncoming traffic which creates more dangers. Of course greed and the want of money blinds these restaurant owners to all of this and they could care less, the only thing they care about is money not the safety of NY’ers who drive or use micromobility.
    Now watch, once all if these structures come down and parking spaces open up, fewer cars will occupy bike lanes, emergency responders will have easier access to buildings, and less accidents will happen overall. Screw these business owners, the safety of NY’ers comes first not their wallets. Cry more.

      the rats are running around and dancing on the tables all night - tables already pre-set with dishes and table clothes for the next day . I would never eat in one of these shacks and neither would anyone else if they witnessed this - Columbus Avenue is particularly lively for late night rat action.

  • @rjd3wine

    These rat shacks in this video have been hit by cars, and tables knocked over at least 4 times. No one was sitting at the time, fortunately. People have been hit by bikes.
    Now 4 of the 6 rat shacks have been taken down on that block. You should have seen what was under the floor boards! Not to mention the chatter noise when there WAS anyone sitting there. Not a good selling point for residential real estate on these block.

    The chaos that these sheds have brought to small neighborhoods needs to be acknowledged. From taking full blocks of parking space, narrowing small streets that made driving unsafe for both cars and pedestrians, the rats and roaches they were brewing, the eye sores in a neighborhood, etc. It had to end. If they really cared about revitalizing restaurants they should lower the cost of permits or give out waivers to restaurants who are struggling. But we know the City only want to make money one way.

    It is hell living above these outdoor restaurants. The extra noise is non-stop from May to October, 7 days a week - to the point where I can no longer open any window in my apartment. And the rats!! FYI:
    They are inside those sheds every night after hours all over the pre-set tables. The extra delivery trucks at 3am, 4am...Sysco trucks idling literally for hours outside my windows, sometimes one across the street from another.. The sheds did their job, but enough is enough. Restaurants have done very very well through it all - their nightly garbage output on the street is quadruple of what it was pre-Covid. Good for them, but the quality of life here has never been this bad. We desperately need to clean house & elect new city officials on all levels.

    I personally love outdoor dining and do not mind common sense regulation around this, however, I also want to point out that the alternative to their being extra square footage for a business that provides a job, eyes on the street, and a pleasant experience is that that space will be used as free parking for the one and five people in Manhattan, who own cars, or are otherwise coming to Manhattan in a car. At minimum, I hope that the parking costs something overnight, and that any parking that could otherwise be outdoor dining is parking metered for fairness.

    • @PermanentHigh
      @PermanentHigh Месяц назад

      What's "Common sense regulations" to you exactly? The government wants these people to destroy their existing sheds, pay $15K in licensing fees, and rebuild these same EXACT sheds right back up. How is that common sense? That's just extortion.
