Not sure why everyone is going on about this all of a sudden , the Walmart dupe has been on line for months and Walmart is a secondary marketplace similar to Amazon , who by the way sell dupes as well . Tiffany and Fred make Birkin dupes as well as a few other Hermes dupes . These people who seemed shocked need to get their heads out of the sand.

Yes. Walmart, Amazon, Baggining, etc have been selling Birkin and Kelly dupes like this for at least two years. Probably, even longer but that is the time frame I personally became aware of it. Not sure what the big surprise is. RUclips has been full of real vs. fake comparison videos for many years now.

I bought my wife a Birkin bag for our 1st anniversary. When she found out I paid 17k for it she freaked out and had me return it. We are very financially blessed but she told me to never spend that kind of money on her. She instead asked me to donate the money to our local animal shelter. I just bought her one of these bags and she is in love with it. And now every year at Christmas we make the same donation to our local animal shelter.

The article writer just wants her cut from the corporate cronies paying her to write that lying trash.
    1. She says the bags not legal because of trademark but NONE of them have trademark names, labels, the Hermes logo, the H on the hardware or lock, if it even comes with a lock apparently. So how exactly does that violate anything?
    2. For the other bag that has Birkin in the title, is Birkin actually trademarked? If someone else named their bag a Birkin style but it had nothing to do with her same design, would Hermes go after them? I'm guessing not if the word"Birkin" isn't trademarked.
She's just getting her payday defending major conglomerates and they're patting her on the back for it.
After the Dior scandal, people need to ask themselves what is alllll that mark up money going towards from each of your luxury purchases? Is it making the item better? Usually no. Is it probably going towards hit pieces on dupes and lying about the replica market? Abso-freakin-lutely!
    What's the difference?
Dior: Chinese workers trafficked to Italy for cheap labor, making bags with Chinese produced raw materials, sleeping in the factory without their families in a country where they don't know the language and can't ask for help.
Replica: Chinese workers who use Chinese manufactured materials to make bags, then get to go home to their families at the end of their work day.
I'd rather buy reps at this point honestly.

I haven’t purchased dupes or replicas. I’ve been tempted and recently actually! But I don’t think there’s any right or wrong here. If a dupe or a replica makes someone happy and feel good and confident then by all means they should buy it and enjoy it. I think the closest I have to a dupe are some Dooney &
Bourke bags that I bought years ago that now I see have the same shapes as luxury brands but I had no idea when I purchased them.

I just can't wrap my head around spending 10s of thousand of dollars for a purse. I understand it's more of a status statement but the idea of spending that kind of money is crazy to me and even more so when the people really are not in the financial bracket to afford it so they go in debt just to show off a purse...MIND BLOWING! So, for those who like the look, but cannot afford the cost, I don't see a problem buying one of these Walmart purses. It's the same purse without the name, so people are paying all that money to walk around advertising someone else's name. MIND BLOWING again!

The new versions of these designer handbags are awfully made which turned me to buy vintage or preloved. Chanel is guilty of this, and LV too. I was shocked when i got the Kourad LV pouch (similar to the one you have, as you inspired me to get one) as the quality of that 25 year old clutch is unmatched. My newer pouches and bags are not as good quality as my secondhand/vintage ones.
As for dupes, these luxury brands had it coming with their insane prices. In what world would $10,000 USD be reasonable for a sack that you'd place your wallet, phone, and other things in. Its different if it were bedazzled with diamonds or is made of exotic leather. This is for a bag that is made out of calf leather that is readily available and frankly, not that expensive to begin with.
*Do note that Hermes is not exactly lumped into this as they still do have their quality maintained and have always been significantly expensive even back in the day.

Daisy Rose does a VERY successful dupe of the Speedy 30, the NeverFull, and other LV faves that started selling on WalMart and Amazon. I have them all, and they are AMAZING. These are not all available in these avenues anymore, but they are through Daisy Rose itself.
If Hermés cares, they could make a fuss about it with WalMart as I’m sure that was done with LV for the Daisy Rose replicas. They might not sell them anymore via WalMart. Buuuut, search the brand names and I’m sure you’ll find them.
I just purchased a leather green 35 searching the brand name for less than $40, even though they are sold out on WalMart.

Copying another bag's style is not a trademark violation necessarily. Putting a logo or any mark on it that causes the bag to masquerade as the real one is a violation. Copying the style in a way to "fool" the consumer could create a violation and grounds for a lawsuit against the dupe maker. I used to buy Coach bags 35 and more years ago. They were very well made of "coach" leather which was thick and supple. They stopped making them of that leather and the quality suffered. I've bought Gucci and LV which are now vintage. I would not buy new versions of these bags anymore. They're not the same. I buy Disney Dooney & Bourke exclusives with my annual pass discount or Vera Bradley bags at the outlet mall if I see something I really like. I prefer to bring out my older bags that nobody is carrying anymore and end up getting more compliments. 😊

The fake Birkin bag, priced at $78, is a better deal if it only lasts a year compared to the Birkin, which can resell on the secondary market for $20,000. As a starting price. You would need to use the Birkin for 256 years to match the $78 annual cost.

Dupes have been around forever-nothing groundbreaking there. Hermès will eventually crack down on this nonsense; they’ve got trademarks for days on their iconic designs. But let’s face it: people are going to do what they’re going to do. That said, owning a fake? It’s not some badge of honor. It’s better to buy within your means and support legitimate brands that actually create something real. At least that’s honest. At least that helps businesses that are playing the game right.
Personally, I can’t stand knock-offs or counterfeit garbage. It disrespects the work and vision that built the brand in the first place, cheapens the genuine article, and fuels exploitative labor conditions for workers cranking out this trash in unregulated hellholes. And for what? To feed the demand of people who want to pretend they’re in the club but won’t pay for the ticket?
Beyond being flat-out illegal, it says something about the buyer too. A lack of integrity, plain and simple. I’ll respect anyone who buys an authentic piece at any price point because that’s real, that’s earned. But seeing someone strut around with a fake like it’s the real thing? That’s just hollow. Style, like food or travel, is about authenticity. Cut corners, and all you’re left with is an imitation-and that’s not worth anything.

Walmart has crossed a line it never should have. For luxury brands, this is a serious warning and a blatant attack. I even think it might be illegal. It’s not just about the logo- even if Walmart’s bag has some differences, it clearly references Hermès and its iconic design.
In the U.S., most consumers don’t fully understand what goes into creating Hermès’ signature bags. How many videos have we seen online of people crying or venting their frustration because Hermès won’t sell them one of their iconic bags? This is a deliberate strategy by Hermès, and there are a few key reasons behind it.
First, the demand for Birkin and Kelly bags is much higher than the supply. Each bag is handmade from start to finish by a single artisan. Before even starting production, Hermès trains its artisans for at least a year to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship.
Unlike other luxury brands that design their products in-house but outsource production, Hermès has its own workshops. The brand carefully selects top-quality leather and metal pieces, which naturally comes with higher costs.
Hermès has also made a deliberate choice to stand out by preserving its craftsmanship and prestige. It refuses to mass-produce or cater to an audience that could harm its image. Unlike some luxury brands that risk losing their exclusivity by appealing to a broader audience, Hermès sticks to an exclusive and carefully curated strategy.
On top of that, Hermès invests heavily in attracting young talent to the leatherworking trade, a profession that was once at risk of dying out. They offer competitive salaries and take pride in their artisanal expertise. This unique approach requires significant investment in both materials and skilled workers, which sets Hermès apart from many other luxury brands.
That’s why Walmart’s version is just a cheap imitation, missing the heritage, quality, and craftsmanship that make Hermès bags so valuable. At the same time, people’s lack of understanding about what Hermès represents also harms the brand’s image. It encourages a counterfeit market fueled by the promise of profit. For some, a Birkin or Kelly bag is seen as an investment. For others, it’s a way to show off a status they don’t actually have. In many cases, they can’t even afford it-everything is about appearances.
I’m sharing my opinion because I live in France, and I know someone who works at Hermès, making the famous Birkin and Kelly bags. I still remember the day she completed her first Birkin bag and proudly sent me a photo of it. It was the result of months of training and the start of a new chapter in her life. No more struggling with odd jobs-she became part of a prestigious luxury house known for its excellence and craftsmanship.
Her name is even written on a small card included in each bag she creates-a personal touch that honors the artisan behind every piece.
