- In her first television interview, Chanel Miller told 60 Minutes about the night she was she was sexually assaulted by former Stanford swimmer Brock Turner.

She was never raped. She went to the party to cheat on her boyfriend then got caught and has played it out as a sexual assault. She consented to kissing, making out, and getting fingered by Brock. Deep down, she knows it. One day she’ll pay for lying to the entire world.

@@blakesleyk.7166 If you're talking about the questions in this interview, I think it was important to ask her those questions so that she could give her point of view as the victim as a rebuttal to the victim-blaming a lot of the press did, including the judge presiding over the case. At the time, there was not a lot of positiveness towards her, BUT, the rapist, Brock Turner, was always talked about from his accomplishments as an athlete. I wouldn't doubt that she didn't give the green light to the questions.

So glad that this Judge was recalled and the laws changed. Needs to happen everywhere.

When the judge looked at Brock, he saw what Brock was gonna lose if given maximum sentence (and tried to rationalize it by saying that brock was intoxicated during the assault) but he failed to take into account what Chanel lost in the process (and rationalized it in his mind that she cannot remember therefore it won't damage her severely).
Victim-blaming
His name is Judge Aaron Persky and he gave Brock Turner a 90 day sentence in the county jail. Shameful.

It’s shameful that Brock spent any time in jail, since he’s innocent.
I never saw this years ago when originally broadcast. That said, I can recall viscerally reading her statement in court on Buzzfeed. I remember posting it with a 'MUST READ' header on my social media. I then shared publicly my stories of sexual assault for the first time. Rape is far too commonplace in today's world. As a fellow Northern Californian at the time, I proudly signed that petition to recall the Judge for his callous disregard for 'Emily Doe' and his overt attempt to protect a 3-time convicted felon for something he personally deemed was a negligible offense. I could not be more grateful to and for Chanel Miller. Because of this woman, I began a deep wound dive into compartmentalized sexual trauma. Her eloquence under fire was witnessed. Her legacy undeniable. I am infinitely healthier and have more peace in my soul today because of her catalytic courage.
You were brave. I’m a survivor too. It changes you for ever.

I never got to face my rapists but if I had gotten the chance, I cannot imagine how nervous I would have been. The strength of this woman is beautiful to me. Our two tiered justice system is sickening! Glad the judge was recalled!
I just finished Ms Miller's book - "Know My Name". I have never wept so often during a reading. Not only was she assaulted once, she had to re-live the experience multiple times in the following 15 months before the trial. She writes her story with candor, a little humor, and brutal emotional honesty. I felt I was living her experience along with her. Thank you, Ms Miller, for speaking your truth. I am so sorry this happened to you, but now I know your name.

If he had gotten a long sentence, none of this would ever have happened. And this beautiful woman (and Brock Turner) are not the only victims of his actions. Her family, boyfriend, and his family are also victims. His family honor is destroyed and I would bet his family hates him for that.

When Chenel said “ my dream is to write children’s books and” i felt her pain and I’ll be buying her books I’m so sorry for what happened to her but so glad she was able to stay strong.

This story brought me to tears just glad to know the laws have changed but he should have spent at least 10years in prison for the damaged he did to that young lady.

I was just about to write a comment applauding the guys who intervened, then I saw that they were Swedes and I have to say, as a Swede, I am really proud of that and not at all surprised, we really have a culture of equality and awareness of this. It was great to read this morning's Stanford Report stating Stanford University has selected Chanel Miller's book, "Know My Name" for this year’s Three Books Program and invited incoming first-year and new transfer students to come together as a community to discuss it during New Student Orientation.

The most insulting/upsetting/degrading thing during that trial was Brock's father saying: 'My son will spend the rest of his life as a registered sex offender for the sake of twenty minutes of pleasure'. A sexual offence is twenty minutes of pleasure? No wonder the son acted as he did.

I am just watching this now, but I can tell you that I am going to get her book, share it with my older girls who are college age. Also, if she does put out children's books, I will proudly, and quickly get them for my 5 year old. No one deserves what she went through.

The fact is, Brock being a student athlete at a top university, is what made this story go national. If it was just some street criminal, you know damn well you would have never heard of this incident!

I could not even imagine. I have tears in my eyes....hearing her talk about about what this did to her emotionally. Especially when she talked about how she found out the details from the internet, sitting at her desk surrounded by her co workers. Can you imagine having to try to keep your composure? I'm still watching, but that's my feelings about it so far. It probably only gets worse from here. Will be back to make final comments.

Men should all be accountable if they have been anywhere in the vicinity of a woman/child/ person more vulnerable being assaulted. Why is society so damaged by angry violent men?
Well said. The rapists amoung us are in the millions worldwide. If we look at them we see large yellow streaks down their backs, and in front we the word monsters plastered in their hearts. They represent alot of males out there who feel entitled to disrespect, humiliate, abuse, assualt women and girls throughput this world.
There is a way to stop rape...women must stand together. When a rapist is convicted he must serve a mandatory sentence of 20 years Without any chance of parole. Once released after 20 years he must be branded with the letter R.
Harsh? NO. Just talk to anyone who is a rape survivor. It is a JUST sentence.
This would stop rapes. At least it would decrease rapes to a small percentage. But the ingredients to stop rapes must come first with a worldwide agreement amoung women that we will stop this endless generational terrorizing of women and girls by males.
There are many many good men in this world as evidenced by these two in this post...but how many have turned away, walked away, said nothing as they have witnessed a act of violence against a women or child. Men throughout history have not stopped males from raping. So it is women worldwide who must stand and demand strict sentences and the branding of these monsters. Branding will tell everyone, but especially women who is a man or who is a yellow backed monster.
This is one of my favorite Docos because of how much Channel inspires me. She is so patient with her words. She has given so many women a voice along with hers. Her bravory is beautiful. I am so sad this happened to Channel but without her the laws would still be crap and women would still be getting victom blammed. Thank you Channel...
