AWESOME!! I have a 1919 Franklin with a huge box of feet I have NEVER used. Its functional now and I can't wait to use it! Been sewing for 20 years & never bothered to learn all those feet. Thanks for sharing your experience!!
Mel thanks a million for posting this. I’m a new owner of my first treadle and have it oiled up … but sewing is still a challenge and I hope someone seeing this can give me advice. I find the edge of the treadle plate is sometimes hitting the floor at the front (the sewer side). I saw that you have the wheeled feet padded out on a piece of carpet and the floor is wood does that raise it up perhaps? Also … I’m going to ask the stupid question now … is the wheel supposed to move in only one direction? Mine seems to change its mind and want to go the other way …
Update to above … I did it!!! I watched your video a few times more and then tried treadling without thread - the thing that worked for me is to watch the pitman rod cycle … I saw that if I didn’t press the back foot strongly enough the pitman would slip back if it didn’t reach the top of the arc. So … for newbies watch the top of the pitman rod and see what happens to get it right. I also did it barefoot which I think helped

Do you use the hand wheel to start the treadle? I would like to learn to control the direction of the wheel using my feet only
