Being a professional oil painter and art professor for almost 20 years, I got to thinking about the lessons I wish I knew from the start that took me so long to learn. The journey to reach your artistic potential is lifelong, yet truly wonderful. Any kind of learning is about awareness, dedication, and ultimately your mindset. Art is no different. Thus, your artistic improvement is directly tied to your acceptance of this process.
This video is a guided exploration of my top 5 most important things that I was not aware of OR did not want to focus on at the start. Hopefully, these tips and advice will help you achieve your potential a little bit faster. But more importantly, they will help in allowing you to really love the learning process.
And please remember everyone, even a bad day creating art is still a great day! Thanks for watching and enjoy!
This video is meant for all skill levels.

Sean... I am finally at a loss for words. You man... you! Thanks for watching! Haha.
I believe any artist of any level can benefit from this awesome video, important points and a great reminder to be true to ourselves. Thanks so much. Take care.
So cool! Seriously, you have made my day. Thank you. If you could add anything to that list what would you say?
@@michaeljohnnolan thanks so much for your reply and I’m happy I made your day. I would say do not compare your work with someone else’s, only compare your work from the time you began painting and see the changes. Everyone is different and comparing your work to others can have a negative result. I used to do it, not anymore.
Also continue learning from different sources. I love your videos because you are a true human being. Blessings and take care.
@@crisalidathomassie1811 Awesome! That is a great tip. I used to do that too. It has terrible negative results. Well said.
And thank you again. I am so glad you have connected with the videos. They are so much fun to make now that I am finally starting to get the hang of all this film making and editing. You are the best. Bless you!

Such a poem, or series of poems, on artful living!! “Immovable lines” is such a beautiful phrase. But just, overall, this whole video is the meditation of art and life. So so so so lovely and for me, just hitting at the most perfect time. Thank you as always for these great productions!!!! ❤❤

Great tips! Years of experience boiled down to a few minutes. Any tips on acting? ;)
Thanks again, Ryan! Any tips on acting? Not for you... you are perfection!
💜💜
Thank you!
Pls tell shooting and editing process
Thanks for the interest. I film with the Sony A7C. I use Adobe Premier Pro and Photoshop to edit and create the graphics. Hope that helps.
Is this acrylic paint you’re using?
The teapot study was done in oil paint and the skull sketch was done in gouache. :)
@@michaeljohnnolan awww I love the teapot
🤔 Sadly I'm not a SMR hearer. That DEEP base voice, I'm not understanding AT all. 😢
I am so sorry. Not to worry, Hermes is just a bully and he is just there for a bit of comic relief. Thanks for watching.
@michaeljohnnolan I did listen past the bass voice; & found the info helpful.
Also, I AM very sensitive (a,k,a, - I get very upset/angry when thumpers are turned up on bass enhanced systems) to deep sounds.
@@randolphfriend8260 I am glad you thought the info was helpful. Thank you for your clarity and explanation. I just recently purchased a new microphone and pre-amp, so hopefully that remedies some of the clipping in his audio tracks. Again, thank you for watching and for your insight.
Love the videos, but the sence of humor is def not for me.
Thanks for watching and for the comment. Glad you liked the videos. Appreciate the input.
