yes, many people are spoiled those days, I experienced already 3 financial crisis, 2 times standing in almost atomic war, I met people from WW1 and WW2. People who met Hitler, German war pilots. Those people were never complaining and were very modest. Now everybody wants 3 holidays per year, big house, big cars and so on. This throw away society can not last, nature will bite back

I think you just described the predicament of over 90 percent of people worldwide. Very Bruce Springsteen'esque in a way. But on a more positive note, adaptation is a good word, which I've also been thinking about lately. I've noticed that I've had some thought patterns for quite a long time now, which have been holding me back, and it has been helpful to realise that it's easier to let go of those thoughts than to wait for the world around me to change to a more desirable direction.

    • @JonoGraham

You are completely right mate, everyone of us is going through an upheaval at the moment and adapting to it is all we can do. Like I said, I have a good life and wouldn't want to move to be honest but there comes a time when we have to put our so called dreams on the backburner or pivot in a different direction.

Welcome to central and western europe. Land is expensive here. Buying 10 acres and going off-grid is not feasible here. Portugal and poor parts of Italy are sort of kind of viable but not really. Would would get much more for your money in USA :-/ which sucks because I would also like a plot a land here (not just just a house and small garden)

The prices now in SVK are similar to the prices in the US and the interest rates are jumping up like crazy. But as the global things are developing I'd rather stay put with my earnings under the pillow. I've learned to be patient. Good things come to you in the right time. Keep up mate!

Hey Jono. Everyone is going through this during Covid and post Covid. Everyone is questioning goals or pivoting. I don't know what interest rates are in Slovakia, but they may still be low and you don't have to decide today. Italy is definitely another option but you don't have to pressure yourself now. I think you are being very hard on yourself. Just because you lost a business during the pandemic doesn't mean you may not own one again. I also owned a business but I closed it to pivot and I'm still figuring that out too. Chin up Jono Rome wasn't built in a day and we still have decades of growing learning and working towards our dreams. I'm in my mid 40's and I have the same type of dream as you. We're both going to get there!

  • @Zralock79

Talking about the future and your kids, Slovakia is not that bad as everybady says. What is the most important I think is, that your kids still can have here free university study. You don't need to pay anything for you kids attending an university. (You have to pay only for food and accommodation.) And this is not very common thing in the world. OK, maybe in Europe there are more countries with the similar or even better education system. But still. It is here too.
And after university, they can roam the world. :D
Just look at the bright side... :)

  • @nicksterba
    @nicksterba 2 года назад +1

The fog has been interesting. All day it feels like early morning here for the past week. Don't give up on your dreams Jono, yes it may be very difficult, but try to consider where else you might be able to move to, or keep doing what you're doing, inproving your business, and growing your channel. Slovakia is pricier than I would've hoped for, but it has been great to live here as well. I just want to say don't give up on your dreams, but still try to be happy/content with your current position in life, while also trying to improve your situation in the long run. Keep posting videos. We enjoy watching them, and props to improved intros & editing 👍

The prices of property does not match peoples income. It was always our dream to come and let ve in Slovakia but now its just unrealistic so were considering spain as property in certain areas are cheaper. its all quite distressing because ive been traveling 2/3 time a year to Slovakia to see the inlaws for the past 20 years and now i can see how my wifes family and friends are struggling to survive because of the elites of this world.anyway sorry for venting

Well, in my opinion you might consider moving to a different part of Slovakia if farming is your dream(and you want to do it now). Liptov is... well... quite pricey for slovak standards. And "touristey" too(which adds to the problem). It iwould be better to look for a house with some land in the less populated parts of the country. Places like the southern half of Bansobystrický kraj(districts like Rimavská Sobota, Veľký Krtíš, Krupina, Poltár etc.) or northeastern part of Prešovský kraj(Medzilaborce, Snina and so on). Here it is far easier to find what you are looking for... and for a better price.
The second option would be to just sit and wait. Bide your time. ...After all, everything has an end... and this s**** property bubble in no exception. Just wait it out. In the meantime you can save some money and make plans for the future.
But for the love of God, don´t sell your house! Not in these troubled times. You never know what life might throw your way after all. It might be something really nasty... In such circumstances a roof above your head(especially if it´s debt free) can be a life saver.

As an Italian who lived in Slovakia, do not EVER consider Italy. The government would tax you to death and force social contributions out of you making it impossible to live. The living costs are out of control. Not to mention that everything is over-regulated, you can't even build a tree house on YOUR land without a building permit from the council. They are flooded with immigration, high unemployment, and low birth rates AKA no future. Just look for a property with less land, you don't need a ranch with acres and acres to be off the grid.

Rly? Hundreds of thusands? That doesnt seem right. If you only want farm you dont need the whole thing to be "building estate" you can buy "grass land" or "arrable land" that costs like 5€-10€/m2 and then just convert the part you want to build a house on to "building estate". Its gonna take a lot of paperwork to do that but it will not be as expensive as buying 10km2 of building estate.

I started as accountant, problems is that children do not learn to handle money at school. I was never rich, but I had/have some nice villas, cars, motorcycles, holidays and luxury. First, never take a big mortgage, do not work for the bank, buy an old house and rebuild it, never buy a new car. Always have savings on your account, manage your money good.
To go to Portugal or Spain is nice, but to find a job there is very difficult. (Countries have 25% unemployment) And houses are also not cheap.

The problem is, you can´t just buy an old house in Slovakia. Especailly in western part. The cheapest old houses here would cost you about 150 000€ in western Slovakia, which average Slovak earns in about 20 years. And I am writing about houses that need expensive reconstruction. Even 1-room flats are about 90 000€. Yeah, you can buy a house in some cheaper parts, but there is not enough work there, especially for educated people.

@@mionellessi3086 I do not understand why everyone wants to live in the west when the best property deals are in the east and the south. I've been living in Bratislava for several decades and even though I am Slovak, I hate it. I wasn't born there and I still feel foreign to that city. In the north, especially the touristy areas, the property prices are generally higher. Some mountain resorts can be even more expensive than Bratislava is. Bratislava is expensive because of the jobs there. County capitals are little less expensive. But the south and the east are cheap as hell, especially the villages. And these regions are also good for farming.
