This was an awesome podcast. Huge aha moments all the way through. I've at least heard of metallic glasses before, but putting them in the performance and economic contexts of metals and plastics was very enlightening.
I don't deal with materials science and engineering in any way for years now, yet still I come to your channel every now and then to appreciate your work and dedication. Thanks for your efforts ❤ Best wishes from MSc who used to study complex oxides (just a bit 😅)
@@TaylorSparks they are sold by "metglas" and are used as the magnetic cores in 50 and 60 hz transformers. they have very low losses but are best used at slightly lower flux density ( approx 1.5 tesla, vs 2 tesla for conventional steel)
This was a top5 episode. I hope you have saved something very special for episode 100🤩🥳. I made an episode on the Everyday Metallurgy podcast here on RUclips on metallic glasses last year where Moritz Stolpe gave some deeper insight into processing using 3D printing and even injektion molding processing. Furthermore he gave a broad overview of existing applications in the Industry today as well as a deeper look into future applications of metallic glasses in our Everyday. That's exactly what we were going for! Glad you dug it.

@@mikethechemis dude this makes me super happy to hear.
What a coincidence, I was just looking for comprehensive video about BMG couple of weeks ago and here it is !!
@@saipranav3512 great timing!
amorphous transformer steels have been very useful! 😀
@@arthurmario5996 oh? What do they use them for?

Pretty cool. What is absolute sin though, that nobody snapped a video of blowing metallic glass into some funny shape :D
