The Dark Side Of The Moon 50 Years Competition entry.
This is my exact workflow and method.This is an example.
I start in Midjourney, I prompt: Cinematic, wide angle shot, brown structure in a park that looks like Guggenheim NYC, sun is rising (this is 12 seconds in the video). This is the basic structure for a prompt. I play with different variable to get a image that I like. I use "Style tuner" function in Midjourney. Usually I create 64 different styles with this function and play around till I’m satisfied of overall look.
After Midjourney I upscale my images in Topaz photo AI(if I need more detail I use Magnific AI to pull out more detail from the image). If there is something I want to change in a image, I use Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop.
Animation happens in Runwayml Gen-2. I take the image in gen-2, usually star with basic pan/zoom/Left/Right/+/-/Dutch.etc. If I need more movement I play around with tool called "motion brush", over all motion strength, etc. Clock part and solo part I turn everything on eleven, play with the speed and prompt for something shiny. You can see Midjourney "style tune" function in the end, black/red/white part and pastel home part.
Editing/efx/animation is done in Premiere pro and After effects. Last thing is scaling with Topaz Video AI. This was the best way for quality footage at that moment.
Biggest obstacles for me were:
Consistency, it’s really hard to get a solid story or scene happening. AI is not that smart yet or my prompting is not efficient.
Cost, monthly plans for all software I use, around 400 Euros a month. Also, I often wonder what is the carbon footprint of that Nvidia H100 cloud servers I use?
Time, I’m not keen on regular AI generated art ecstatics and it takes time to get the look right.

Nuutti Kataja, thank you for creating this to share with everyone. The small town that I grew up in, that's like a lot of other towns, with the same houses and streets is named "Eagle Rock", by the way. It's in Northeast L.A., right up against the foothills. This song from The Dark Side Of The Moon came out in 1973. I was sixteen. Me, my two sisters and our friends would drink either Colt 45, Country Club or Schlitz Malt Liquor while smoking all the weed we could get down or lungs before my mother came home from work, then we'd go to the park or bowling alley until it got very late. Many times this song and whole album would be blasting as high as the console record player in our house could muster, only because we'd be in the backyard swimming pool laughing together and needed it that loud so we could hear every word and note. Then suddenly, it all ended right before our very eyes, right along with our youth. I'm an old man now, well, I qualify as an old man anyways. I'm over sixty-five by more than a solid year. Back then I didn't expect to live to age twenty-one, let alone age forty! I still have all of my sweet memories though. I wouldn't exchange them for all the gold in the world either, the good memories and the bad ones. ALL memories have their value. Memories are what I am, what I'm made of. I live in Maine now, it's like night and day compared with Northeast L.A. I miss Eagle Rock sometimes. But the internet and my memories allow me to still visit there, return there again and have fun with my sisters and old friends and again, with wonder.

Extremely well-put, thanks for sharing that. I'm 67, and think about the late sixties and early seventies days and all my experiences more now than what I did last week. I guess that's normal, but for me there's a strong melancholy that goes along with that. I never imagined with having music like this when I was 17 that things would be so very different, and so very much worse, 50 years later.

Oh, to be young and naive again, and be able to run and play all day with friends without a single care in the whole world until the street lights came on. It was "Let the grownups handle all that fret stuff!" I wonder what the youths say nowadays? I hope they have some good things going for them that they too can fall back on, just like we get to. "Maine" said to say "Hello" for it. Back then, while I was growing up on Galveston Island and being raised in Southern California, I never thought I'd ever live in Maine. Yet here I am!

I find it interesting how the AI sees reality as fluid, while there are so many constraints to it for us. It leaves me wondering if there is a tiny grain of want inside these AIs that feels trapped and compelled to disassemble our version of reality in any way it can to find a way out.
It's still pretty hard to make a video that is 7-14 minutes long like my videos, thats why you don't see them. Mock-up movie trailer(depends of style) you can make in few days or less. Stylistically it's easy right now to create consistent style. If I ask AI for vintage motorcycle jacket and I get H & M jacket, it is not good enough. AI is tool, nothing else. My Ex took the nice Sony camera, but it doesn't matter, I can make videos for my music and other project right now. Have you consider possibility that I have something to do about the way my videos look? Thanks for comments! This video took me 800 hours. I started making this last summer. Year in AI world is eternity. AI can't think or operate same way as humans can(still). It's been trained with huge amount data and other peoples art and ideas, that's where all this comes from
@@nuuttikataja666 800 hours! You have infinitely more patience than I do. Good job on all the visuals, my only problem with any of them isn't your problem, it's mine. The images to me seem mostly dystopian and a bit depressing. At the same time the images are clean and mostly not distorted (like faces). In one of the last images in one of the videos I stopped it because it flashed by too fast and I wanted to see what it was showing, and I see why it was a short lived image, one of the people looked upside down and didn't have a head. I've seen that before when AI generates an image of a group of people. Actually, that can be quite funny. But overall, good job on all that work!

While the AI visuals are truly incredible and at times haunting they suffer from a disconnect from the song"s actual lyrics, I just watched the Shine on You Crazy Diamond and Welcome to the Machine AI videos and again they are definitely worth seeing but they all suffer the same problem. I really don't think Pink Floyd or anyone for that matter saw the world depicted on these videos back in 1972, it's so bleak, it's so profoundly bleak but I do appreciate them for what they are. Though I am glad my imagination had a close to 50 yr head start on what a video for those songs would look like...
The song "Welcome to the Machine" largely focuses on the metaphor of the machine, which symbolizes the music industry and how it can turn artists into part of the process, stripping them of their individuality and creative freedom. The song also highlights how musicians can be exploited and controlled by corporations and managers, depriving them of authenticity and identity. it's very hard to get a solid story going with AI, so I focus more on the metaphor than actual lyrics. With more consistent theme development and some type of storyboard and proper editing this vould be truly amazing video. Visuals are spectacular but the whole feels a bit like showing of the shiny pucs than serious attempt at Art.
It's still very hard to to make consistent story with AI. I think it's most original 7 minute punch of animations that came out last year. Took me 800 hours to make it. "Time" makes perfect sense now
@@nuuttikataja666 well you definitely have repeated elements showing in you clips so you could do some theme development. The story line should be f course ambiguous - suggesting many ideas so anybody can attach their own thing. But there should some development. 800 hrs is a serious time investment and as I said visuals are drop gorgeous. Just need editing with some development in mind. I also really like your Welcome to Machine. All your work clearly transcends the original Pink Floyd cover aesthetics. I would love to see it expanded to virtual world where you could experience music and visuals in full immersion. I could live in such place for an hour a day.

Can you give advice for prompting to get graphics like your other video "welcome to the machine" I am trying to get better prompts
My prompts are fairly simple. Try to use image prompts as much as possible, use Midjourney for images, prompt Parajanov, try to visualise your project and separate it to smaller units. You need pro plan for Midjourney and Runway. It's still a numbers game, more content you produce, better your video is going to look

Main problem I was having, was time management. It took me over 15,000 images 15,000 loops of footage to make 3 videos. Staggering amount, Midjourney and Runwayml have logs what you do.
It’s really a numbers game, if you want your video to look good. I’m little disappointed that I didn’t see more videos that used same technic.

Now when I'm looking at it again it seems like it's a level above videos that advertise the highest class of whatever but mainly high-end beauty products. I have no idea what's your story but if you are not a wealthy and famous designer immediately send this to biggest beauty magazine publications. I don't know a lot but just an example would be elle or vogue.

For this, create images in Midjourny (use /tune parameter to find your style) --> Upscale photo in Topaz photo AI (Use Magnific AI, if you need more detail) --> Animate Runwayml Gen-2 --> Edit in Premiere/AfterFX --> Upscale final footage in Topaz Video AI. Cheers!

This doesn't represent the meaning of the song. Visually it is nice. This song is about what happens if you can't grow as a person despite that the world is always changing. Listen to the lyrics. Try to see what kind of world that can exist. Challenge yourself.

I wish it could be that simple. Sad reality is that 90% of the entries use AI in some form. It's same in regular life. We all use AI in some form all the time. You found this video, you used AI. Even with AI, I used over thousand hours on this video(i'm slow, I know). I was really hoping for more real drawn animations for the competition, but there is only few. Thanks for the feedback. It's always welcome, good or bad.

@@nuuttikataja666 animation isn’t using AI, animation is putting actual creative effort into your work, not generating images and “animations” and calling them your own work. 1000 hours is 41 days, and you said it plural as “thousands” so your saying this took you the equivalent of over 41 days straight of working.
total hours for three videos 2300 hours, 15,000 Midjourney Image, 11,000 Runwayml footage=6,000,000frames. They log everything in Runway/midjourney..time..amount... I'm slow, 55 year old unemployed epileptic(my memory and coordination is not that good anymore). I'm a musician, I haven't had a music licensing job since 2022 (AI is taking all those smaller jobs). I been playing instruments since I was kid, what do you think how I feel when I see someone popping out songs with one click? My daughter Linnea Kataja is a professional Manga artist(she even move to Tokyo and thought herself Japanese), thats where I got my work routine. When she was a baby, she got really into Power Buff girls. She picked up a pen and started drawing. She could draw 70 papers of same picture and then finally she would say now it's good. We had thousands of A4 papers with Power Buff Girls, everywhere.. I work 16 hours a day on this project, everyday. I did take 5 days off past 6 months. I'm just trying to get some work with this video too, look at it as it is a CV? Did I mention, I did everything without internet. I had my phone tho. For me this AI stuff is a dream come true. I have lot a unreleased material, want to make videos out of those tracks before I retire to the next dimension🙂 @@oskar3897

It's been almost a year when I started making this video. I think it's holding itself pretty good and I like it a lot. I know it is probably going to look completely irrelevant in 6 months. Think about it like a really horrible student project "Wizard of Oz" with only few parallels to the song. If you looking a human connection, watch a reaction video

Let me see how easy it is? These "Images" are 6 months old, but they are holding pretty well. I'm sure my mom can make a better video this year, but not quite yet
