I’m glad he’s practicing safe sax
Always struggled with slap tonguing, this video made it so much easier!
Absolutely inspiring and encouraging to listen to Derek. Drop all your pretentions and commit to this and then commit to writing... whatever you're reluctant to do! Love it. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Derek is such an amazing teacher. Great at leading people and very motivating!
I enjoy Derek's positivity. That was definitely an experience! Thank you for such an enjoyable interview. 🎤
Not just mastering these techniques but figuring out how to communicate to other people how to master them is true mastery.
So glad you are pursuing this degree , Derek on teaching. It's taking sax playing to a higher level.
One of my inspirations!! I love how unique he is! 🎷🔥
Love this! Derek you have so much energy! Always love your lessons. Great podcast episode Jay!
I love that you would allow us to see to you learn a saxophone technique like a student Thabk you
Time to expand my Sax skills. Very cool!! 😎😎😎😎
Derek definitely has a drummer soul in a sax player’s body😂
This energy! Fascinating and inspiring, must try 🎶🎷🎶
Cool lesson beat boxing and playing 🎷 it sounds like fun
I absolutely LOVE this guy! Saw his “stand by me” cover a few months ago
I love it❤ effect effect s is great
Awesome!! Phil Woods used to make this sound during some of his phrases though did not play it to this level.
great hang here!
I actually started on Trumpet at 6 years old and only got into Saxophone about 3 years ago. And it really is fun see your progress, when learning something new. Especially after my trumpet skill has stagnated for years already. But you bet, I am gonna pick it up again now, to make some lovely chicken sounds on it!
I'm listening
I'll take you both upon that affirmation about improvising right now. With 3 months of study under my belt, I'm just now learning scales let's see if I can fit this challenge in my practice routine hahaha.
Thanks for the tips. I’m going to try to use this and create a solo for Brickhouse.
Cool.
This is a good video for kinda seeing the process and getting a lot of tips, however you should make a short video that covers everything so its not as long 👍
Cool Shirt, Jay! 😎
My funny story with extended technique is when I first started practicing altissimo and stuff, slowly working up to double altissimo g, my dad though my saxophone was broken and he literally asked me one day if he needed to take my horn in for repairs.
That's so funny 😂
I just recently hit a double altissimo g and it's fun to do weird stuff lol.
Helps to have a small opening on the mouthpiece
the god....
Mr Better sax this is an urgent matter unfortunately. I have 2 high profile gigs coming up one Friday and one Saturday. I like in Ohio in the USA
If I ordered one of your horns could I get it before Friday? How can I buy one and what tenor do you recommend?
Bro, it's great playing in sax for maind it's interesting
Great
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great Bruce Lee impersonation. Wha!
👍👍
Kool

☮️🎶🎵🎷
King Curtis was s master at this
4 min
James Carter implements this in his playing….☮️🎵🎶🎷
What if Jim Carrey was a saxophone player
First
Yeah, not as easy as he says, and the explanation is confusing.
Too much work… that’s what they have rhythm sections for
Yet the video is 48 mins. lol
I just want a drummer. I should not have to do this. The drummer does it better every time. I want to play the melody on saxophone. It's like clown tricks to me.
Sorry Jay, I don’t believe saxophone’s were invented with this in mind….
Sorry but this is annoying as hell.
I’m struggling to understand who this video is for, how does this benefit anyone. Why would you video yourself 1-2-1 coaching, especially for 50+ minutes?
