all these basses sound great, the Ripper sounds the best to me! Love these old Gibson basses, I know Gene Simmons used both the Grabber and the Ripper back in the 70s. Gibson is coming out with a Gene Thunderbird as well. Love them all, thanks for sharing and stay safe, Johan!
When it comes to bass guitar, I prefere Rickenbacker. I own a 4001 V63 and I love it. But I really dig the Ripper though, sounds kind of Entwistle to me. Best greatings from Bavaria.
I’ve got the last bass made by Jörg Neugebauer in Germany before he sold out to a Czech company. It’s just brilliant. Apart from the weight (4,8 kg)… It can do everything with its 2 multiple magnet Delano pickups, active/passive switchable circuit, 3 band EQ, splittable pu’s, phase inverter… name it! Long scale, 0 fret, graphite nut, solid steel bridge. It’s a Clover Argo V: best bass I’ve ever played 🤘🏻
I've been considering finally getting back to playing a Fender bass instead of my 1976 Gibson Ripper, and so I stumbled on your video here. I think I'll be keeping the Ripper! It's a great sounding bass. Really just one of my favorite bass tones. And I rewired the 4-position switch to eliminate the out-of-phase tone. No rush for me on getting a Jazz Bass! I think some folks assume or have heard that it has a maple body. As far as I know, a Ripper always has an Alder body. Mine is Alder for sure and the few I've seen were Alder as well. The neck is indeed Maple, as you'd expect.
Gibson used Alder bodies only in 75-76 Ripper production but still, you can find 75 and 76 with maple bodies, since the first production of 73 up until early 80 Gibson Rippers have been always with Maple body maple neck, and ebony or maple fingerboard..
Some great colors to have on your palette - that amp & mic combo is working pretty well too. When your vid cuts from the ripper to the Jazz around 1:55 the Jazz sound just felt like coming home for me.
Both the Grabber and Ripper blow the Thunderbird out of the water. My only complaint about the construction of the Grabber’s sliding space is that Gibson could have allowed it to slide an additional 1/2 inch towards the bridge just for a little extra tonal variation. But the tones that you do get stock are so good.
I have a Gibson SB-450 with mini humbuckers from around 1973. The only shortcoming is it is headstock heavy. Not a problem in the studio when playing sitting down. Alder body, maple neck rosewood fingerboard and Shaller tuning keys. I paid $200 (including a hard shell case, although it's not the right one) for it in January, 1989 in a pawn shop.
The Jazz and the Thunderbird had some fret buzz issues. I like the Grabber and the Ripper - both had great clarity but the humbucker had the deeper bass.
I liked them all. I seem to favor the Thunderbird, but I think that has more to do with how it looks. I have a Fender Mustang which I use for recording, and it's tone is phenomenal!
Always good stuff Johan. Thanks Hey I was wondering if in your backlog you have a 4/10 & 2/12 going with a 50 or 100 watt head I've been reaquainting my self with my 100 watt Tone master and really enjoying it Have not yet run both cabs together yet though Enjoy you weekend Johan....Plus really four tens or two twelves is not a. bad hauling situation Not good space/room wise but I have a van
Hi Johan Once again , great too see you bsck on the bass. Interesting mix of tones For me I’m going too say thd growl and clarity of single coil pickups in that 66 jazz sounds amazing pick and finger style Compared too the more heavier sounding Gibson’s Of course in a bsnd mix it all. Changes , also a demo of these basses with flat wind strings woukd be very interesting But thank you once agsin for a excellent video Cheers 🇬🇧🇬🇧🍺🍺
Can’t go wrong with any of them. Firebird for the looks! Coolest looking bass ever (and sounds great too) followed closely by a Rick. But Jazz Bass for the win for me!
There's something inherently rude about the Grabber's and Ripper's tone when played with a pick. It's like they want to play punk. Actually, the Grabber tone reminded me of the early Straglers.
Ripper sure lives up to its name! Great vid Johan! 👊
Thanks Andy, glad you like it!

Gene knew WHAT worked! \m/
Thanks Mark, glad to hear it! Gene has a killer bass tone indeed
Loved the ripper, that first position is the edgy krist novoselic/nevermind sound!!
Thanks!
The synchronised sideways foot tapping at 2:13 is quite something - like foot VU meters! Very good factual comparison video for all bass curios!
Thanks ;-)

Thanks! I love Rics too but to me they’re difficult to play for sone reason
It's very hard to find, and Rickenbacker is very expressive. Should be very nice, but it's a rare brand.
The Grabber is a very versatile bass. I purchased a 3/75 Gibson Grabber in 1999 for $299 with OHSC.
Hi, Johan!
The best of Gibson is Ripper, but Fender was really good. Maybe because of the strings? Have a nice weekend!
See you!
Zigfrid
Thanks man, all but the T-bird have basically new strings. Have a great weekend!
One of my buddies had a Ripper back in the 80s. It was pretty awesome.
Well done Brother! Great Tones and playing. Love them all of course.
Have a great weekend and Be Well All!
Thanks man, have a great weekend you too!

Thanks Chris! Yeah the B15 is a killer recording amp

My brother just got a 1964 jazz, all orig. sick!

Yeah the T-bird is a beautiful instrument

Thanks Paul! I combined 4x10 and 4x12 in this old video ruclips.net/video/0Z2MRRNi8vg/видео.html
That Grabber. Holy shit, what a sound.
Lou Barlow from Dinosaur Jr. plays a Grabber. I'm sure your Grabber would sound great with a little distortion on it
Yeah I know, I love Dinosaur Jr! Cheers
Hi Johan

🇬🇧🇬🇧🍺🍺
Jazz -> Ripper -> T-bird -> Grabber for me. Heavily partial to the jazz but would gladly take a grabber if someone's giving gifts.
Thanks Tyler
More bass vids my man!
Thanks, it would be my pleasure
Can’t go wrong with any of them. Firebird for the looks! Coolest looking bass ever (and sounds great too) followed closely by a Rick. But Jazz Bass for the win for me!
Thanks Scott!
The Ripper, is a ripper! \m/
Cheers DMS! 🤘
@@JohanSegeborn ;o)
Jazz bass, then ripper. :)
The Ripper was used to record Nevermind.
Killer Bass Tone on that one
Fender jazz bass forever
Indeed
Fender always wins the Bass Punch - Out❗️
Single coil growl !
They really decided to make a bass out of maple that time. A Les Paul full maple would be interesting haha
There's something inherently rude about the Grabber's and Ripper's tone when played with a pick. It's like they want to play punk. Actually, the Grabber tone reminded me of the early Straglers.
ripper and the jazz are the with fingers , with pick thunderbird , ripper and jazz are the best
The Ripper is the best sounding Gibson bass!
Ripper all the way.
ripper the best
Ripper wins
