Busy sa work... pero dami mo pinakita evidences. To present those in one video is very time-consuming pero talagang binahagi mo sa amin. Thank you doc. Every time i watch your videos, i really don't skip ads. You deserve a million views, likes, and subscribers.

I felt guilty that I can't continue my keto journey and thank you for this❤️❤️❤️ I am planning now my new journey to a more healthier and balanced diet 😊
I just wanted to point out the book behind you, How not to diet by Dr. Greger😍😍 I love that book... I am a Certified Holistic Nutritionist here in The US, it's sad that there is not enough nutrition educator in The Philippines.
Great video, I've lost 57 lbs in a year by eating clean. No processed, junk etc. More veggies, fruits, a portion of healthy grains and a matchbox portion of meat or fish. I eat red meat once a week.
sana meron pong ding episodes for healthy diet plans. sample recipes and all with scientific infos 😅
True. That is a good suggestion
healthy balanced diet is still the best

Hi Doc. Great content. I'm on keto 4months already. that's why they are promoting to add some vegies specially green leafy vegetables for the potassium and magnesium, and also adding sodium recommending himalayan salt in water to increase electrolyte. dietary fiber such as chia seeds. Also some are doing Intermittent Fasting and some even Extended Fasting to utilize those stored fats to be use as energy. Maybe that could help and even works to reduce body fats. Most of us knows that few weeks after starting keto diet those lose weights are water weight. I'm not in medical profession but that's what I've learned from keto doctors around. Like what others said all kinds of diet are effective when you do it the right way. Thank you for that informative content Doc. 👍
In excess siguro kinoconsume mo na carbs
I don't think strictly keto is good for long term basis because it burns out fat too fast.. It's only corrective measure for insulin reset, as transitional diet to correct habits that caused frequent insulin release( bigger portions, frequent eating or snacking and late night binging). I benefitted on keto diet and I recommend it as measure, pero I'm not sticking to it just because all the whole while I'm mostly consuming plants +eggs (30yrs) . It's just there was a time I eat irrationally with 2x the portions, binge at night while late sleeping. I resorted to keto to correct the habit along high motivation with the info I got.
@@duchessnana Your comment makes sense.
This is a kind of content we must watch and follow. His statements were all supported by research articles and not just googled content. He even translates statements into layman's term explanation. Very clear mag explain and informative masyado. Kudos

@@victorguani8799 I agree. Plus yung mga meta analysis that he was referring to were outdated.
I used to not believe on Keto/Low Carb diet too but I tried it myself after coming from a "balanced diet" na nagpalala lang lalo ng katawan ko. I even spoke to many doctors at nilagay ako sa kung ano anong gamot. I stopped taking medications and started low carb, and workouts. Now I'm feeling so much better.
People need to research more and not just listen to one doctor. Kasi lahat yan iba iba sinasabi.
One of the doctors I'd like to recommend is Dr. Paul Mason. But again, buksan ang isip natin at mag research and explore pa tayo.
Impact of a ketogenic diet on metabolic parameters in patients with obesity or overweight and with or without type 2 diabetes: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Yeo Jin Choi, Sang-Min Jeon, Sooyoung Shin
Nutrients 12 (7), 2005, 2020
The aim of this meta-analysis was to explore the efficacy of a ketogenic diet in metabolic control in patients with overweight or obesity and with or without type 2 diabetes. Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane Library were searched for randomized controlled trials that enrolled patients with overweight or obesity on a ketogenic diet for metabolic control. Fourteen studies were included in meta-analysis. The effects of ketogenic diets on glycemic control were greater for diabetic patients relative to those of low-fat diets, indicated by lower glycated hemoglobin (SMD,− 0.62; p< 0.001) and homeostatic model assessment index (SMD,− 0.29; p= 0.02), while comparable effects were observed for nondiabetic patients. Ketogenic diets led to substantial weight reduction (SMD,− 0.46; p= 0.04) irrespective of patients’ diabetes status at baseline and improved lipid profiles in terms of lower triglyceride (SMD,− 0.45; p= 0.01) and greater high-density lipoprotein (SMD, 0.31; p= 0.005) for diabetic patients. Other risk markers showed no substantial between-group difference post intervention.
Our study findings confirmed that ketogenic diets were more effective in improving metabolic parameters associated with glycemic, weight, and lipid controls in patients with overweight or obesity, especially those with preexisting diabetes, as compared to low-fat diets. This effect may contribute to improvements in metabolic dysfunction-related morbidity and mortality in these patient populations

I very much agree with the good doctor when he mentions that people [most especially the clueless] consult with a medical professional.
TL:DR - Most people who go on any diet do not study the science behind it.
Most people who start on a Ketogenic diet do not consult with a Nutritionist who'd support them and that most do it trying to mimic their previous High-carb diet in their own implementation of a low-carb diet - they even have desserts.
It just shows how majority of people are clueless on where to look for the science behind health and nutrition but equally important is that most do not have interest in learning the aforementioned.
As what Dr. Greger cited, which was cited in this video as well, the 2005 study implicates increased Methylglyoxal, MG production to increased Ketone production of Acetoacetate by close to double the value (1.67 times). Now, there is no reason to move forward and try to disprove the said study if there weren't any flaws in it. In 2017, a research done in Denmark shows how in a low-carb diet that as Acetoacetate was produced the Methylglyoxal was buffered - binded - to the ketone and the reaction produced a harmless metabolite - 3-HDD. But even before that, researchers wouldn't be quick to agree with the 2005 study. Why are multi-year low-carbers, Carnivore dieters still living with a CAC score of 0 nor zero signs of inflammation and Insulin resistance plus have healed/put into remission their Autoimmune diseases?

MG has also been cited as having anticancer and hormetic effects. Context matters.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5600983/
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5565788/
On the Diabetes study cited, "Short-term low carbohydrate/high-fat diet intake increases
postprandial plasma glucose and glucagon-like peptide-1
levels during an oral glucose tolerance test in healthy men", the diet as stated in the Methods section is as follows:
-Normal diet - 67%
carbohydrate, 22% fat and 11% protein
-LC/HFD - 20% carbohydrate, 69% fat and 11% protein
Notice how the LC/HFD still has very high Carbohydrate percentage. In a Ketogenic diet, the maximum allowable Carbohydrate per day should not go past 20 grams (it can even be close to 0); this is a very small percentage. Different studies all mention Low-carb but each study has percentages of the Carbohydrate different. This is just one of the issues with studies against low-carb.
Researchers Nutall, MD, PhD and Gannon, PhD have noted in their published researched cited by ADA that Fat does not illicit Insulin rise, it is virtually zero. Carbohydrates have very high-glucose and Insulin spike responses. For a Non-diabetic individual, fats have a blunting effect on Insulin and Glucose.
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1959475/
One of the reasons why the American Diabetes Association added in low-carb in their dietary management guidelines starting 2019 is principally due to the research of Virta Health on a well-formulated Ketogenic diet.

Pinaka important is - tamad mag research mga tao on their own.
Kahit making an informed decision requires research on the side of the patient kasi you can't exactly hold the doctor/nutritionist liable. They're just following the law and current approved practice that has taken decades to show that processed food consumption and sweetened drinks has caused us all harm.
Remember, nung 1940s and 1950s, Doctors in the US were featured in Cigarette commercials and poster and they have a playbook to downplay the health concerns with processed food.
Vegan diet is incomplete. You need supplementation.

Iam type 2 diabetic for 18 years. I did this LCIF diet. Na convince ako kc i wanted to reverse my diabetes. I strictly followed the diet for almost 3 months and added exercise too. When i went to Taiwan for a vacation, i waa rushed to the ICU as soon as we got there. The diagnosis: KETOACIDOSIS. I was in the ICU for 3 days and went straight to the hospital here in Manila for another week.
All of the doctors both in Taiwan and Manila said the same thing to me ... that keto diet is NOT safe for diabetics.
I had to learn it the hard way.

You're explanation is evidence-based..a product of research,
that's what we need to understand fully the topic. Saludo ako sa yo doc Dex
As for me,
Day 45 in LCIF (+ workout during Fasting, 14-16hr fasting), ndi ko binigla, nagkanin (red rice) parin ako but lesser to none,. 1st week I felt the keto flu, kc ndi ako nag research before trying the LCIF, nung may nararamdaman na ako like palpitation, constipation, dun lang ako nag research,. and I was surprised na ung palpitation ko pala was due to lack of electrolytes, malakas ako mag tubig, but even before LCIF low sodium na ako cuz of my HB,. kaya naubos ung electrolytes ko sa katawan i think,. kc after ko lagyan ng asin ung tubig ko, as in nwala ung palpitations ko.. tpos dun nmn sa constipation, not bloated, ndi din masakit tiyan ko,. ayaw ko lang tlga na ndi ako dumudumi ng regular,.
a coach said na normal lang daw constipation kc na absorb daw ng katawan ko ung food intakes ko kaya wlang mailabas as waste,. but ndi ako comfortable sa ganun,. kaya nagdagdag ako ng vegie foods, leafy foods.. after 1-2 days nwla constipation ko, a relief for me...
so I continued the LCIF,. hanggang napunta ako sa Keto unconsciously, kc ndi ako nagbibilang ng carbs, I just ate foods that are known to be a low carb or 0 carb and I eat 2 times a day, no snacking,. I think parang stressed lang ako kc nauubosan na ako ng idea on what to eat properly to maintain the LCIF.. may mga nararamdaman ako like parang GOUT feeling na wla nmn ako nun dati before LCIF,. bigla ako nagka hyperacidity feeling, na dati nmn wla ako problema sa digestion ko.. kaya parang natakot ako, slowly tinaasan ko ung carb intake ko via eating whole foods..
bottom line, madaming benefits parin nakuha ko while on LCIF,:
1. bumaba BP ko from regular na 140+/100+ hanggang naging 117/92 nlng in less than 2 months,. mataas parin ung Diastolic ko but I'm positive na baba rin to as I continue the lifestyle change
2. nawala ung athletes foot ko (left foot) , before LCIF, kahit anong pahid ko ng canesten bumabalik-balik tlga ung fungi sa paa ko, for several months pabalik-balik lang. but when I do LCIF, as in nawala nalang xa, ndi ko inexpect na LCIF lang pala katapat ng athletes foot ko.. :)
3. weightloss, I achieved my Goal Weight from 56 down to 52 (maintaining stage nlng ako)
Foods I eat in 2 weeks:
Eggs, alugbati, (any leafy vegie), carrots, sitaw, pork, fish, beef, chicken, cabbage, tomatoes, garlic, ginger tea w/ lemon, onions, no sugar,
then I slowly increased my carb intake by eating Oatmeal, no sugar, banana, fruits, half/1 slice wheat bread.. half cup red rice.. parang I shifted to balanced diet instead, but with fasting parin and workout..
maganda ang LCIF if you do it right, I'm still happy sa result,. my mistake was I did not do my research before trying the diet.. but I learned my lesson, I'm still learning, but this time I'll stick to LCIF, but not the strict version, mahirap i maintain, I got discouraged nung maraming bawal kainin na whole foods nmn like fruits and some veggies, I got stressed..
kaya I'll just eat a balanced diet in moderation.. + workout and fasting

@@caomaryann15 The idea of losing weight is to be healthy. Not to fit in to a smaller casket.
Diabetic ako since 2012. Pre-diabetic since 2010. HbA1c ko is nasa 8+. Pero since I started keto last Jan. 1 2019, within 3 months bumaba Hba1c ko to 6.5. Then on the 6th month, 4.9 na lang. Kahit diabetologist ko nagulat at nagtaka. Wala na akong maintenance meds for my cholesterol, blood sugar and highblood. Don't be so dismissive of the keto diet kasi it is helping a lot of people. From being an obese couch potato, ngayon marathon runner ako, nagbabike ng 100+ kilometers, and very physically fit. And honestly, you should update your readings. Read the works of Jason Fung, Sarah Hallberg, Peter Attia, Tim Noakes for a start, you may be surprised.
Mga bagong research from Doctors like Dr. Sarah Hallberg, Dr. Jason Fung, etc are giving type 2 diabetics and obese patients a life changing hope to live longer. Ketogenic diet can help reverse this disease. Huwag na po maging fatalistic about this sickness. Maging open minded to new medical research.

I have been doing moderate carbs diet, mostly comes from vegetables, but not exceeding 50g of carbs. My foods mostly consist of eggs and veggies but I eat meats almost everyday (chicken, fish, pork, beef). Maybe we all have different views on balanced diet and we should just respect each other. My 2 cents
I did keto diet (lcif) sept 2018. Iam 18 years type 2 diabetic and na convince ako mag try ng diet na to kasi nga puwede daw ma reverse yung pagiging diabetic ko. I followed the diet walang cheat days and even did IF and added exercise. Almost 3 months in the LCIF diet, i found myself in the ICU. I was in Taiwan for a vacation then. I was confined for 3 days for ketoacidosis. Pati pancreas ko naapektuhan. From Taiwan ICU, I went straight to the hospital for another week here in Manila. Iam not saying not to do keto diet kung sa tingin mo effective sayo BUT at least have a doctor guide you.

I'm not a hater and I don't usually comment on youtube videos destroying ketogenic diet, but I had been keto myself since 2017 and I have lost the weight that I have struggled to loose, I have resolved my PCOS, I have cured my acne, I feel more energetic than when I was in my 20's and I'm now in my 30's. Well, I have resolved a lot of my health issues by doing clean keto and a lot of people out there specially people in their 50's or 60's who used to suffer from a lot of metablic syndrome, have been medication free. I did my own research too because I was skeptical about this diet, being a nurse myself, we had always been afraid of high cholesterol levels, we think heart attack straight away, but I have realized that it's the high carb, processed foods, and high sugar foods, doesn't matter it its fruit, that is killing us. Now doctor, what do you tell to the people who have cured a lot of their health conditions because of ketogenic diet. Do you tell them to go back to following the food pyramid advocated by the American Heart Association and continue taking their expensive heart medications or cholesterol tablets because if not they might die of heart attack or they will have low blood sugar because they have cut out their carbs. I feel so sad about the misinformatio you are telling people, you are a doctor, you are supposed to help people cure their diseases and be medication free, not capitalize on them.
misinformation? these articles are recent articles. and as ive said, IF IT WORKS FOR YOU THEN BY ALL MEANS DO IT. And did you finish the video? what did i say in the end? i said if you are doing a low carb with more plant sources youll be just fine. but if you take on full meats it could be a problem in the long run. finish the video. i left it to my viewers what they want to do
@@DrDexMacalintal Have you ever heard of antinutrients in plants and why do they dvise people with GI issues to do low fiber, if fiber is essential I should have been dead by now following carnivore diet to cure my depression and anxiety and also falling hair. My partner suffered from IBS for a long time and only when he gave up plants that he got better. What can you say about that. Damaging kidneys? We worried about it but we listened to Dr. Fung who is a nephrologist and we understood. It just saddens me that people generalizes, we are all unique individuals with different needs and reponses to certain things, we shouldn't generalize. My stepfather has also suffered from constipation due to colon polyps and being advised to eat high fiber diet which almost killed him. High fiber doesn't apply to everyone. What can you say about this.
@@jbb_01 Subscribe to low carb down under, they are not bias, it respects all types of diet and it explains what type of diet is doing to your body and how every individual ia unique and you should adjust your diet according to what your body is telling you. I habe suffered from acne for a very long time and many other things and I am glad I came across keto diet then carnivore diet, no other diets have helped me so it pains me to watch videos bashing the diet instead of acknowledging thay every individual is unique. But it there is one thing thay is proven for sure thay is killing the human race, it's processed and refined carbs, sugar, and hydrogenated oils. The pharmaceutical and big food corporationa are making billions from people becomong sick and they also pay scientists to publish altered researches which is really sad, so be smart, keep researching and digging towards your own health 😊

You are a blessing to us Doc. God bless you and the rest fo your family.
I am in ketogenic diet with Intermittent fasting and lost 15 pounds. No longer taking diabetic meds. It should be healthy keto rather than bad keto. Many Filipinos are eating rice with very high glycemic index especially white rice, which is highly processed compared to our ancestors rice. How could you explain the fatty liver and rise of non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis? Many people got this because of high sugar which is present in almost all process foods including ketchup and sauces. Further, many filipino food is filled with monosodium glutamate which are carcinogenic. Also in oyster sauces and seasonings. Exercise, yes but our metabolism do slow down and must keep the high intensity workout at minimum. Please include more recent studies on healthy keto as benefits rather than its down side because there are many of those who gained benefits from heathy keto like myself.
I agree 👍
Nag try tlga aq ng low carb , and IF, pumayat tlga aq, pero ang taas ng cholesterol ko.. Kidneys and liver ko ok nman khit nag keto and low carb aq,kya lng after a year balik na aq sa btead, pasta, donuts, pero di nman bonggang bongga and maintain nlng... Dhil kpag nag strict keto /low carb aq, kpag nkpag cheat aq sobrang sakit ng ulo ko tlga..
So anything tlga na dpat knkain is in moderation tlga, wag ntin araw arawin, and mas ok kag nag change ka ng diet mo, after 3_ mos mo gnawa ung diet like keto / low carb, mas ok mgpa check tlga just like what i did..
Balanced healthy meals tlga ang dpat...
Tnx Doc.. More subs and more videos po.. Learned a lot po..
Collab na din dpat kay Doc Adam😊😊😊..
Agree ako sau, been doing keto pro once mka kain ako ng HC ulit sumasama pakiramdam ko at super dry ng lips at throat ko at heartburn. Ndi rim maganda ang tulog ko kaya nag stop Na ako at Eat nlng pro in moderation. Mas ok tlga ang plant based diet
Thanks doc ang galing ng pagka explain..

thank you Sheryll! ingat lagi
And I was thinking of starting Keto, mabuti na lang I saw your video. Good job in explaining this topic.
Doc, favor. I know you're promoting plant based diet. But do you have a list of what we should and should not eat?
Thanks in advance and more subscribers/views to your channel.
Also. I love the Gunplas behind you 😅
check the plant based diet video here
One thing to help you guys to lose weight is to keep in mind that "I wanna be Healthy" instead of "I wanna lose weight" losing weight will follow once you take healthy food :)
Thank you doc! For sharing us all the facts! Godbless you more. Now I know which diet I should do. ❤
I asked my endocrinologist what's his take on keto diet, I didnt get any answer but he directed me to do the traditional food pyramid diet. This video answered all my questions about keto diet. 👍Great vid!👍 Thanks doc!
I started this low carb diet 2 weeks ago. I stop it immediately after watching this. Thank you Doc!
In other words NAUTO ka….
Ketogenic and fastong does not work for me. It’s the right food that works for me. I eat 3X a day.
Sobrang galing mo mag explain.🥰 God bless!

Doc just recently i was diagnosed as diabetic (type 2) with a score of 500 (fbs). they treated me here in UAE and released me when i reached around 230(fbs). Since then I was in total depression wherein I focused on trying to beat it, finding source of info till I met KETO. I did KETO for like 1 week with regular monitoring on my Glucose while also taking insulin (20shots/2xaday). I was frustrated with the results coz my Glucose didint went down, I always get a score of 250 to 260 (fbs). I told my Doctor regarding it and He discouraged me from KETO and iI shifted to Lowfat. I didnt monitor my Glucose up until 3 weeks. I went back to hospital for a checkup, in my surprise my Glucose was just 140(fbs). Low Fat Diet and Plant Based Food is really the game changer if you want to reverse your Diabetes.
Thank you MiKeL for being an example :)
@@DrDexMacalintal welcome po Doc, pero mas thank you for informing us or enlightening us more regarding the nutrients that we need and not needed. thank you for educating us.
I was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes here in UAE.. i do keto and exercise without taking medication.. after that naging ok yung sugar ko umabot pa nga ng 80 hinfi makapaniwala yung filipino doctor ko sabi niya impossible daw. Try to check VIDEOS OF DOCTOR BERGS IN RUclips. Baka makatulong.😉
Big thanks s evidence-based info dok!
Hi We are in the same boat at RND,glad to took up medicine and be the real advocate to all doctores who seem to be adamant or neglecting the significance of medical nutrition therapy
please share. there are lots of misinformed people out there
Intermittent fasting naman po! Most of the people doing it po coz of the vloggers and influencers out there. Thank you!
I learned a lot from this video Doc, I'm a diabetic
Trixsy Joy agreed
Thank you and God bless. 🙂
And also water fast po pls..
Intermittent fastìng is just a tool to put you on a calorice deficit. Wala talaga sya definitive na advantage like what other people say.
it's the rap part for me! hehe ganda ng mga content mo doc, watching from California.
hope you can share to your friends
Thanks Doc Dex for accomodating the online consultation of my mother...
Xa po yung sinasabi ko sa comment ko dati na nakasched na kami 2 years ago for open heart surgery dahil sa coronary artery blockage pero ayaw nya ng operation kaya nag plant based diet xa... naging ok xa kaso nga lang in the long run, napapakain ng bawal... kaya need po talaga ng strict guidance.
Thanks for your time po..
Regards from Dubai☺️☺️☺️
ingat!

I'm a medical intern doc and I'm very much interested in nutrition!
Thoughts about pescatarian diet? Can you make a video about it? Thank you! 😊
sure Juris!! SOON!
Doc, suggestion vlog content po. Herbalife products! Thanks and more power!
super informative! siksik liglig sa info and evidence based research lahat ng topic. before i always think that rice will make you fat...pero now, eating clean and with right proportions and timing - yun lang pala ang dapat gawin. napaka simple. thanks for the videos Doc! sharing it now so that my friends doing keto will see this
