I like how you started with Comix Zone. I don't think there was a better looking game on the Genesis. The Genesis couldn't even keep up, it maxed out the hardware. The frame rate took major dips at intense moments, and I think I even remember screen tearing it pumped so much juice. It was the best looking and probably most technically advanced game, not even Vectorman that Blue Sky Software tried to duplicate the Silicon Graphics use by Rare even compares to Comix Zone. Not even Virtua Racing. I, personally, think Red Zone doesn't even but Red Zone was mind blowing. There's just something to Comix Zone where the idea translated really well to what 16-bit games really were. Such a cool game
Beyond Oasis was & is one of my favorite games on the genesis. I thought the visuals & overall presentation was great especially for a genesis. I remember being a young teen when it came out & wondering how they made it look so good, have tight controls, the story, details, hidden content, and so much more. Truly great game & as a genesis kid whenever a friend who was all about Nintendo brought up Zelda, Beyond Oasis was my rebuttal
Great video! One thing...Thunder Force IV did not release on the Genesis until 1994. Shmup's had largely fell out of favor in the States, causing Sega to hold onto it. Then, for some unexplainable reason, they changed the name of the game to Lightening Force (yes, they misspelled it). I myself almost passed on it completely. The day I rented Thunder Force IV, I did so because there really wasn't anything else. I threw the game in my Genesis, expecting the usual shmup affair, maybe with some flash here and there...that is not what happened. Thunder Force IV looks so incredibly good that if it wouldn't look out of place on a Neo Geo AES/MVS/CDZ. Thunder Force IV isn't just slick graphics with some neat parallax effects that make it so special. The game features sprite scaling, rotation, and so much more.
I don't know anything about this channel, but I saw this on my RUclips feed and it seemed like something I haven't seen before or in a long time. It's not Sony pointing fingers at Xbox or Xbox at Sony or Phil Spencer whining and complaining about how unfair he's treated...... Nah, this is about the good ol days....... Sega vs Nintendo, but this isn't even Sega vs Nintendo, it's just Segas awesome games AND I LIKE IT! I wish videos were more like this rather than the whining and whimpering we get these days. Today isn't a console war, Sega vs Nintendo, that!!!!! Was a Console War! Good job, dude. I smiled and loved every minute of it and I don't LIKE many videos but this one earned it, I guess, because it's not about all the drama. Well done 👍🏻
To bad you didn't mention Panorama Cotton, Beyond Oasis, Soleil, Ranger-X, Star Cruiser, Zero Tolerance, Red Zone, Bloodshot, Batman & Robin, The Lost World and Virtua Racing.
Flashback isn't a "Sega Genesis Exclusive Game". It litterally came out on every plateforms at the time, even on Mega-CD, 3DO, Jaguar and CD-i... Earthworm Jim neither, and Sonic CD is a Mega-CD game.
Some of these games should look even better than shown. Artists of the time worked _with_ the limitations of the composite display connections of the time, rather than fighting against it. As a result by using pixel-perfect output you get to see a lot of dithering and vertical lines rather than the intended boost to colour definition. Things like the shadows in Comix Zone, the disco lights in Streets of Rage, the waterfalls and surface foam in Sonic, and even some of the visible shading (just look at Vector Man or Ristar) really don't work anywhere near as well when viewed exactly as generated on the GPU.
You miss Gods, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Chaos Engine (Soldiers of Fortune), Mega Turrican, M.U.S.H.A., Jim Power and many other very beautyful games...
Sega CD is a peripheral for the Sega Genesis. Even if you make it a hardware requirement for playing your game. I see nobody calling an old 386 PC with only floppy drives different than a 386 with a CD ROM drive... Thery're both PCs... Some recent cartridges make the Sega CD optional...
sega patented the comic thing? no wonder ive never seen anything like it again. So trash when companies do that, then never fu**ing even use the idea again -_-
you call " golden axe " graphicly impressive are you kidding me ? it looks like an Atari quality graphic with 1 frame peer a second for god sake .. lets be honest you been biased by nistalgia .. we all know that street of rage 3 was graphicly more supirior .. and yet you ignored it & included 1 & 2 in the list instead even though they have an outdated 8-bit graphic style compare to part 3 .. totally unfair man
It’s a mystery as to why, not just this guy, but like EVERY one states Contra Hard Corps as Contra Hard CORE - it’s it some subconscious porn addiction playing in the back of the head or what? :)
Cos that is how it is correctly pronounced. It's a play on 'Marine Corps' which is also pronounced 'Marine CORE' So yes, Contra Hard Corps is correctly said as 'Contra Hard CORE'
@@BigBillKelly-x2z oh thanks I did not know it. Wow but as an non native English speaker how come marine corps are pronounced like this. How could corps be core? So odd I mean do it follow any normal phonetic standards or how!!! Hah
Ah I found it. It’s not really an American / English word but just a French word that kept BOTH the French spelling and French pronouncing. I ll be damn. So from now on I will call the game “Contra - Le hard corps”
@@litjellyfish Yes but they do use it in America with 'Army Corps' and 'Marine Corps' among others. It is odd and i didn't know till a couple of years ago and i'm a native English speaker but from England not America. It's all a bit confusing tbh!
This is just a lazy list of games produced with AI - when is YT going to clamp down on this type of content. Good God it's even got games NOT exclusive, NOT even being shown on the right console and it's repeating TF4. Lazy rubbish.
not a really great top 35 ... only western versions, so you miss jewels ... Thunder force 2 never impressed anyone by its graphics, even in 1989 ... There some other choices very cheap .. not this time friend
Are you English? You dont sound American? If so why dont you call it the Sega Megadrive? Also if you are English its Arse...not ass 😅.... if you are American then fair enough... although you are also the same guy who said SNES killer instinct did not have an arcade mode!... dear oh dear you was completely wrong on that one😂
The genesis is still my favorite console after all these years. So many good action games.

A fusion of streets of rage and Zelda and my absolute favourite game on the genesis.
Pitfall the mayan adventure, toy story, mortal kombat 3, sonic 3d, donald duck mauy mallard, alladin among many others.
Pitfall tma is amazing. Loved as a kid. Replayed the other day. Still holds up
When you realize Wall-E was basically Vectorman...
Nice video

Only the arcade version of golden axe had that ending. The genesis version had the dwarf and a bat grunt play baseball with the credits.
To bad you didn't mention Panorama Cotton, Beyond Oasis, Soleil, Ranger-X, Star Cruiser, Zero Tolerance, Red Zone, Bloodshot, Batman & Robin, The Lost World and Virtua Racing.
I agree
Why would you use SNES footage for Flashback? And exclusives? .....and Earthworm Jim
Flashback isn't a "Sega Genesis Exclusive Game". It litterally came out on every plateforms at the time, even on Mega-CD, 3DO, Jaguar and CD-i... Earthworm Jim neither, and Sonic CD is a Mega-CD game.
Indeed and the version shown is the Super Nintendo version - the MD/Genesis version had conrad in a white T-Shirt.
@@georgebishop4941 Yes, i had noticed that too.

I'll rescind my lawsuit from last week since you finally did it right. Don't ever make that mistake again!
And don't you ever forget SEGA>>> Nintendo

Except sonic cd was not released on the genesis. The hint’s in the name

Not the genesis version of flashback. It’s the snes game. Conrad has more colors on snes…
You're right. In the genesis game, conrad has a white t-shirt.
Show
