Best of luck to Blues for next season. I am sure (with your club's size and wealth behind it) you will comfortably come back up. Thanks for your level-headed words, Guys. I'm keeping an open mind and hope that Rooney will finally find some success. As an Argyle fan I'll get behind him and yes, survival (hopefully a place or two above this year without leaving it until the last day) would be acceptable as far as I'm concerned. Especially if that includes sone entertaining football along the way😊. Keep up your great podcasts, I'll be rooting for you next year and hope the experience of the third tier is not all negative

Good balanced content as usual lads.
I was trying to think of positive things to say about Rooney for any Argyle fans looking in.
I think Rooney got the best out of Jordan James for us.
Also believe he’s not afraid to give academy players a chance as he did with Romelle Donovan.
Other than that it’s slim pickings I’m afraid. It’s vital that he gets an experienced assistant on board - I hear talk of Mike Phelan ? That could work.

Of course! thank you for reminding me of that. I forgot he was born in Plymouth. Brilliant :)
I can't believe this man keeps getting work after 3 huge failures. His stats are in black and white with his points per game and win ratio. What on earth is making him qualified for these jobs? It's all about the status, the name and the revenue these superstars will bring to the club but as someone else commented a little earlier. What's the point in this with the bigger picture if you just get relegated?

I'm a lifelong Blues supporter but I live in Plymouth. I could never actually support Argyle but when I heard the news of Rooney's appointment I was in turn shocked, dismayed and then annoyed that Rooney will be in all the local news down here just when I thought I had heard the last of him. The reaction among Argyle supporters down here is the same as before his appointment at Blues. Most are against it , some say give him a chance, but the general feeling is one of disbelief. The Argyle board have made the same mistake as Blues did. They have gone for a 'name' rather than a manager and if that name had not been Rooney I doubt if he would have got another job in management( at least in the Championship)

Oh wow, so you're now going to get a FULL ON double whammy of Rooney. One with blues and now living down in Plymouth. I feel for you mate, it's like experiencing 2 circuses that are awful and you're forced to watch.
I remember being in disbelief as well. Especially being in 6th. We gave it a go as fans. Well, we certainly tried our best but the football was truly awful. It couldn't have continued you would have finished rock bottom with the momentum we were getting.

The thing with Argyle is with an almost certain bottom 3 budget we have to think outside the box and gamble a bit. At one point we were linked with Liam Rosenior but he quickly ruled himself out. He was given a play-off budget at Hull and ultimately failed to make the play-offs, what was he gonna do with a relegation budget? The same could be said for many so-called experienced Championship managers. We need someone who is going to over-achieve. Whether Rooney is that person remains to be seen but I'm encouraged by his time at Derby when they were in administration, working with freebies and kids from the academy his team achieved 55 points, a tally all Argyle fans would accept this coming season. If he can bring in a knowledgeable assistant it might just be a gamble that pays off. Whatever happens he's not one to shirk a challenge, pretty much every job has been a baptism of fire with the expectations placed on him and as they say, you can learn more from your failures...

Your description of tactics for Blues under Rooney sound very similar to that of Stephen Schumacher when he was Argyle manager. Argyle were one of the top scorers in the division (especially at home) before Stoke stole him from us. Defensively not so good and sometimes awful. We had really dangerous pacy forwards like Hardie, Whittaker and the amazing football brain of loan player Azaz, which meant the opposition had always to be wary. There were no player issues though and Schuey was really popular with both players and fans. It sounds as though Foster was our 'Rooney' for very different resons. His tactics were very negative and didn't suit our players.

I didn't know a huge amount about Stephen S at Argyle so thanks for sharing this. Looks like we have had similar experiences but almost in reverse / for different reasons as you point out.
I just don't understand what people are seeing, the win ratio's and points per game are there in black and white to see. It's about status and who you know which seems to be a shame.
No doubt that Rooney will bring some pulling power to your club but it will also bring the circus so be prepared to get a lot coverage and if he is failing it will of course put a very negative spotlight on your club. World class players don't necessarily make good managers.
I do however wish yourself and the club good luck next season and I hope you can all make it work for you.

Genuinely wishing you all the best and I hope it works out but be prepared for some seriously nervy and outrageous moments on the pitch. All the best next season and hopefully you can dodge or minimise the impact of the circus arriving in town.

Your points regarding Rooney not fitting Birmingham City's style of play are absolutely valid. However, his approach aligns well with Plymouth Argyle's philosophy. Our team thrives on the very style of play that brought us success under Steven Schumacher. With a full preseason ahead, Rooney has the opportunity to mold the squad according to his vision, something he couldn't fully achieve at Birmingham.
The pressure to implement a bold, fearless style of football was immense, and rather than integrating his philosophies gradually, he felt compelled to make immediate changes. Transforming a team's playing style is a process that cannot be rushed, especially mid-season.
This role at Argyle represents Rooney's best opportunity to establish himself as a credible coach and manager. Should he fail to deliver a strong performance here, it could significantly jeopardize his future coaching career. A full preseason and the ability to bring in his own players will give him the best chance to demonstrate his capabilities and achieve success.

We discussed a lot of those points in our podcast however as you point out he will have a full pre-season and be able to bring in some of his own players at Plymouth, something that he was unable to do at our club.
A number of Plymouth fans have also commented that your players will be more aligned to Rooney’s style of play so that is another big advantage. At Birmingham the manner and timing of his appointment were all against him and we just didn’t have the players who were capable of completely changing their style of play.
We have finally moved on from Rooney now but I hope he can turn things around for himself and make a success at Plymouth and give your fans something to cheer about. KRO

What we have to remember is Rooney came in at a time when we was facing six tough fixtures, with a team he inherited, and no pre-season under him, after two weeks he knew the team was not good enough, and the only way to change that would have been in the January transfer window, which he never reached, maybe if that had of happened we might not be in league one, who knows, but this time with Plymouth he is going to get his own players in and a pre-season, and have a point to proof, and maybe get Plymouth to finish in the top half of the Championship. Don't get me wrong, I was against Rooney's appointment from the start, but he got the Job and I supported him because he was our Manager, but he got hounded out by some of our players and the fans at the Leeds game, and the Club had no choice but to sack him, not because they wanted too, but because of our fans, me, I think he should have had his January transfer window, it would have been better than the one we had.

Even with there was money or favours given or whatever the theory may be, I would like to think the board would have looked at his win ratio and what he had done in management since starting. A world-class player does not translate to a world-class manager.
He didn't deserve a meeting with Plymouth let alone the actual job itself 😂

Yes feel sorry for Plymouth &their fans because at Birmingham tried force players play in a way totally uncomfortable with never worked one reason got Birmingham relegated .
I agree he doesent know how coach players&understand strengths&weaknesses hence fact system Rooney wanted Birmingham players play too never going to work.
Keeps saying he is on a project be successful not way he manages a football team never know may surprise everyone be successful doubt it very much.

I think that what really failed was Rooney!s expectation that the players could suddenly adapt to a style of play that they were unfamiliar with and were clearly unable to do. The worst thing of all was that he persisted with it even though he knew it wasn’t working. It was painful to watch and I’m was so pleased when he was sacked. KRO

Good afternoon Gents. As you know out of context I commented about this very subject on your last video when I heard the news drop.
I turned over to ITV as soon as I saw Rooney and he answered the question about the Plymouth appointment.
Rooney arrived under a dark cloud (not his fault) but he did absolutely nothing to lift the club or the cloud to Wark himself to the fans. The man has no class, self awareness or man management abilities or indeed coaching. He was nothing short of a total disaster and left under a huge storm cloud. He just left utter mess and ruin that we never recovered from.
I never liked him as a player. Talent wise, he was amazing but didn't make the most of that. He could've achieved so much more had he looked after himself properly. I just like the way he came across.
I'm absolutely amazed he's got a job, let alone in the Championship. I really feel for the Plymouth fans.
His job is to make players better and be the face and voice of the club and without the exception of having a positive impact on JJ's career he did neither.
He ruined what Eustace had built. The players played for Eustace and he brought the fans together and Rooney destroyed all of that.
I really hoped we would've stayed up last season as that gives Rooney validation that he was right about the players not being good enough. He made them worse. Scared and destroyed confidence wise. What he did was like the damage an earthquake causes and we never recovered from his awful tenure.
Best man for the Plymouth job???? I would love to see that shortlist!!
I have no real affection for Plymouth but I feel sorry for the fans. His managerial record speaks for itself. He's not a manager!!
All the best Plymouth fans. Enjoy your summer and brace yourself for the worst time.
    KRO 💙

Yes, we saw your comment in yesterdays video about the Rooney appointment and along with your comments here you sum up many of the points we covered in the podcast and the general feeling of the Blues fans about Wayne Rooney.
We know how the Plymouth fans are feeling right now just after his appointment. Many of them will be disappointed and concerned with the appointment and many will be asking other fans to get behind him because he has been appointed and that is not going to change for the start of the season. It’s frustrating as a fan as there is no control in who the club appoint as manager or head coach and you have to trust them to make the right decision. I hope for Wayne’s sake he makes a success of this however he has done nothing in his coaching career to give any confidence that he will succeed. KRO

It's not very often at all that I don't fully agree with what you both have to say, and this is yet another example of me being in total agreement with you both.
The man doesn't need to take the job so I can only assume he loves football or his wife just wants him out of the house and as far away as possible!
I don't know and seriously doubt if he learnt anything from his time ruining our club. He obviously has a point to prove. I can't be bitter anymore as it's no good to hold onto that so this has got to be closure for me when I say I hope he has looked at himself in the mirror and reflected on where it all went wrong and what he needs to be a manager of any significant note.

Thanks for the info lads👍 Your research and warnings highlight the fact you know nothing of Argyle and their recent history.
We have played out from the back with defenders who struggled to keep the ball at times. We have been on the biggest rollercoaster from administration to relegation x2 and just saving league status to two promotions one as champions with 101 points
We have enjoyed the “We’re going to score one more than you” we have “front foot players” the club has been set up to entertain I reckon Wayne is going to fit right in👍
He will also benefit from the fact that Plymouth is geographically so far from the footballing world, very little press intrusion, it is too far out of the way for them to bother. Genuinely believe he will get his head down, work hard and improve Argyle and when the success comes he will be off to manage at top level🤔Everton the obvious fit
Short term🤔the bloke can enjoy for the first time in his managerial career🤔actually contributing to signing a player😳and running a squad through pre season. Both he has only done in very limited circumstances

As an Argyle supporter in the USA, I was shocked to hear this. To manage Argyle, you actually have to coach. You will not have the budget to buy the players you want. You will have to work with loan players and find value players. You have to use motIvation, tactics, teaching, and player evaluation to get your players to overachieve. I have never seen any evidence that Rooney can do any of this. In fact, his track record indicates he is poor at these things.

Nixon tweeted that heckingbottom and 2 others he couldnt name, as they were already employed, as the others interviewed for the job. Rooney was last in and got it. Imagine if somebody named "fred bloggs" turned up with rooneys managerial cv instead. I wonder if he would have got the job? I also watched a lot of DC uniteds highlights on you tube during the 15 months he was there. Along with his mate phil nevilles inter miami. They were both awful. DC also signed 15 players and spent a lot of money expecting him to reach the play offs. Thats why they got rid. He also signed 11 players at derby, 5 free agents and 6 loanees. Jagielka was one of them. So that helped in his second season. Plus as you say he had rosenior there as well. So im deffo in the worried camp. The only hope is another rosenior type assistant coming in or maybe dewsnip mentoring and helping him. I am also concerned at his brum post match interviews naming and blaming players. You guys nailed it on the head with many valid points. Superstar players rarely make good managers because they cant relate to the average player. Things come easy for them and they have large egos. They don't understand that bench player or the struggling player or the marginal league player or how to motivate or speak with these players. Managing is many things besides tactics and Rooney doesn't own them. I like the point also you made about him not wearing the badge etc. He also lived away and commuted in for games and odd training sessions giving his assistants info to run training sessions when he was not there. Long distance managing does not work and sends wrong message to players that your are not invested in the club. Yeah, we argue that it wasn't Rooney directly but more a mixture of several things with the players bearing a lot of responsibility. I just can't believe this guy is landing job after job with failure after failure. It's mind boggling.

Yeah, well I heard some outrageous names being linked with the club in the last few weeks on December when he was still in charge. I think it was all smoke and mirrors as we all knew we couldn't bring in many players during this time due to FFP etc. Hence why Mowbray only brought in 3.
So glad this nightmare is now behind us. Are you going to plan on coming over for any of the early games this season? :)

This is a really valid and key point . They weren't willing to do the "ugly side" of the game. It will be interesting to see how he does at Plymouth but I think he will be feeling the pressure. 3 failed jobs effectively and if he makes it a 4th then no one will surely touch him at this point...

As someone has already pointed out we (Argyle) finished bottom really if you disregard the relegated clubs, so if Rooney gets Argyle higher than 21st position he will consider it job done!
Personally I reckon you bluenoses clubbed together to get him to come here last season so you finished above us but Wazza got his timing wrong!!!😂

Haha! it wouldn't surprise me if he missed a memo or 2! I don't know how true these rumours are but some people said he used to turn up late for training and leave early etc. It seemed like an all round circus when he was here and just a real moment to forget for blues fans and our club.
Good luck next season! I really respect Plymouth, you have a great fanbase and deserve better than what I think is coming.

Did you know, after Foster was sacked, Argyle (my team) bagged more points in the final six games of the season that any of the top seven teams? It's a fact. I have been advocating that we give the job to the first team coach (Nancekivell, ex-Argyle player), because we were mid-table before Schuey left. Really, we just had to avoid appointing another Foster, and sadly it looks like we've done that with Rooney, clearly a low IQ low standard guy and a poor coach too. It's incredible our board have made this decision, they must be deluded, star-struck maybe. Apparently both Foster and Rooney interviewed well, but anyone can say the right thing. So depressing.

I didn't know those stats. That incredible!
Yeah, of course as you know from the video we didn't rate Rooney at all however the board of our club and yours should know better. He has NO proven record and his average points per game / win ratio screams nothing but failure.
I would like to think he will turn it around at some point and who knows that could be with you guys.
Good luck next season and I hope you can keep the circus out of Plymouth.

The only difference I can see is that he gets a transfer window whereas at Blues it was the worst appointment at the worst time and he had to play with what he had. That still doesn't change the fact he is an awful manager but just something that might give him half a chance.
I am just glad the nightmare of that is over for our club but as you say, I now really feel for the Argyle fans who are going through this fresh. The circus travels to Devon.
