It’s so awesome how different we all are! I love creating art, the process. I have problems finishing pieces. Lol 😂
Great session! I hope to catch the next one in real time.

Plein Air painting was covered a lot here and prompts a few quick comments from me. Full disclosure -- I came to painting via Plein Air, I spend more time PA than in the studio, and love it. Now that I have a couple of thousands of hours in outdoors, I have a few additions. 1) I believe Plein air is the best way to learn to paint landscapes and cityscapes. The constant advice for artists is to "draw from life!" Landscapes, unlike still life and portraits, are where the artist does not control the studio light. The distance of the sun/light and the amount of reflected light mean the edges and colors of the shadows are different than the studio. I set the goal for 2024 to improve my shadows, ariel perspective, and dappled light. I did this with lots of time outdoors studying and trying to paint it and my personal assessment and all the feedback says my works improved significantly. 2) I understand Prof Lieu's point on not wanting to "repaint" from her PA work. I did the opposite in the last three months. I took two 9x12" PA paintings/ Both were painted as "complete paintings and one is currently hanging in its second exhibition. I painted 27x40" pastel works in the studio. In both cases, I used the PA paintings and not photos as my reference. These are now framed and ready for entry in a juried show. They are also the two best paintings I have ever painted. The learning from painting Plein Air was what made these large paintings successful. The light and depth are far beyond anything I have ever done, and I strongly believe that only came from the summer I spent painting Plein Air and I never would have achieved this working from photographs instead of painting from life.
Overall, I love the shows and just wanted to add a couple of points because I have different experiences that might help someone in this wonderful community.
