It has two modes Weld and Grind. There is a couple of terminal control options for what to work on and if you want to use work color this means that it will either weld or grind the specific color you have choosen as the work color. This has a better use case for Grinding mode tho. But can be used in welding mode also if you only want to weld some specific things.
To specify subgrid welding. Small grid example in this video has a total of 85 subgrids :P Hence video thumbnail Subgrid Welding?(Is there a limit) :P
It will be updated into my existing OmniTools mod when it releases.

How do you make the projector keep the subgrids? Is that also part of the mod?

The subgrids are part of the projection itself. Only the projector can keep a projection. When you toggle on keep projection. It should keep the projected subgrids also as they are part of the projection. Remember the subgrid projection and is part of MGP(MultiGridProjection) and not my mod specificly. My OmniBeam only builds them. MGP tells my OmniBeam that it can be welded.
